• Jordan Westburg homers as leadoff man
Batting leadoff for the first time, Jordan Westburg went 2-for-5 with a homer versus the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Manager Brandon Hyde indicated before the game that this wasn’t a permanent move. Westburg, though, has a case for hitting high in the order regularly. He’s batting .301/.354/.534 with seven homers and five steals in 159 plate appearances. Prior to today, he had hit third once but never higher than fifth otherwise. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:14 pm
  • Justin Turner comes off bench in return
Justin Turner returned to action Wednesday, finishing 0-for-2 off the bench against the Orioles.

Advice: Turner missed the previous two games because of illness. He’ll now have another day to recuperate, as the Jays don’t play Thursday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:14 pm

  • Sitting in third straight game
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Advice: He'll miss out on a third straight start while he manages left side inflammation, but with the benefit of some added rest in the form of a team off day Thursday, Riley could be healthy enough to rejoin the starting nine for Friday's series opener versus the Padres. Zack Short will make another start at third base in Riley's place Wednesday. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 1:10 pm

  • Brett Baty not in Mets lineup on Wednesday night
Brett Baty is not in the Mets’ starting lineup for Wednesday night’s battle against the Phillies.

Advice: Baty will take a seat on the pine with tough left-hander Ranger Suarez toeing the slab for the Phillies on Wednesday night. The recently recalled Mark Vientos will start in his place at third base and will bat fifth for the Mets. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:03 pm
  • Maikel Garcia getting a night off on Wednesday
Maikel Garcia is absent from the Royals’ starting lineup for Wednesday evening’s matchup against the Mariners.

Advice: The 24-year-old infielder has been scuffling a bit at the plate as of late, so perhaps a day off to clear his head will do him some good. On the season, he’s slashing .239/.288/.369 with four homers, 25 RBI and 10 stolen bases through his first 43 games. Adam Frazier will start at the hot corner and hit leadoff against Bryan Woo and the Mariners on Wednesday night in Seattle. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:00 pm
  • Transferred to 60-day IL
The Athletics transferred Hernaiz (ankle) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Advice: The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Aaron Brooks, who was called up from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday versus the Astros. Hernaiz suffered a severe left ankle sprain last week and now won't be eligible to return until early July. Max Schuemann has since taken over as Oakland's everyday shortstop in his stead. • A’s shift Darell Hernaiz to 60-day IL
Athletics transferred INF Darell Hernaiz from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: That must be a pretty bad ankle sprain that Hernaiz suffered last week. The A’s are currently rolling with Max Schuemann as their everyday shortstop. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:35 pm

  • Back on bench Wednesday
Merrifield is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: With Bryce Harper (migraine) and Kyle Schwarber (back) both missing time in recent days, Merrifield was one of the main beneficiaries. He started in seven of the previous eight games while manning three different positions, but Merrifield provided just three hits over 32 at-bats over that stretch to bring his batting average down to .188. Both Harper and Schwarber are simultaneously in the lineup for the first time since last Friday, so Merrifield will retreat to the bench and will most likely be in store for a reduction in playing time moving forward. • Draws start at second base in minors
Caminero made his first start of the season at second base with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run.

Advice: The start at second base came on the same day Brandon Lowe visited a specialist due to continued concerns with his right oblique. Lowe ultimately received good news, and the expectation is that he will be able to resume his rehab assignment with Durham soon. However, it's notable that the Rays seem to be prepping Caminero as a contingency plan at second base, a position he hadn't started a game at since 2022. Caminero is slashing a robust .316/.385/.582 with seven long balls on the season. Prior to Tuesday, he had been exclusively playing third base for Durham. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 12:07 pm
