• Alex Verdugo sits against left-hander on Friday
Alex Verdugo is not in the Yankees’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Braves.

Advice: While Verdugo started each of the team’s last two games against left-handed starters, he’ll get a breather with tough southpaw Chris Sale taking the hill for the Braves on Friday night. Verdugo is enjoying a solid season for the Bombers’, slashing .254/.309/.413 with nine homers and 41 RBI through his first 74 ballgames. Jahmai Jones will start in his place in left field and bat fifth for the Yankees on Friday evening in the Bronx. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago

  • Sitting against lefty
Verdugo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta.

Advice: Verdugo will dodge a matchup with southpaw Chris Sale on Friday. Instead, Jahmai Jones will bat fifth and fill left field. Rotowire.com Today, 12:39 pm

  • Getting day off
Marsh is absent from the starting lineup Friday against the Diamondbacks, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Marsh has started five straight games since being activated from the IL, but he'll get a breather Friday. Instead, Cristian Pache will start in center field and bat eighth. Rotowire.com Today, 12:03 pm

  • Slugs seventh homer
Machado went 2-for-3 with a three-run home run and a walk in Thursday's win over Milwaukee.

Advice: Machado jumped on a four-seamer from Bryse Wilson with two outs in the bottom of the first inning and sent it into the stands in right field to put San Diego up 3-1. The third baseman would also add a single, giving him his third multi-hit performance in his last four games. Machado is now up to seven homers on the season, though Thursday's long ball was only his second since May 3. Rotowire.com Today, 7:50 am

  • Goes yard again Thursday
Winker went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: For the second straight game, Winker went yard in the sixth inning, this time taking Ryne Nelson deep. While those are the veteran outfielder's only two long balls in June, he's otherwise putting together an impressive month, slashing .389/.484/.519 through 17 games with nine runs and 10 RBI. • Lit up for seven runs
Gil (9-2) was hit with the loss against the Orioles on Thursday, allowing seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out one over 1.1 innings.

Advice: Gil struggled out of the gate, surrendering a leadoff double to open the contest before eventually allowing one run in the first. However, things would get much worse for the right-hander in the following frame, as he failed to retire nine of the next 10 batters he faced, leading to his shortest outing of the campaign. Gil gave up a season-high seven runs on the afternoon and failed to make it through six innings for the third consecutive start. It also marked his first loss since April 15 against Toronto. • Gil hammered for seven runs against Orioles
Luis Gil allowed seven runs in 1 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Gil gave up eight hits, walked two and struck out one. He was due to have a bad start. Gil entered the game with a .194 BABIP allowed and 83 percent left on base percentage. Both of those took a hit in the seven-run blow up. Gil’s ERA is up to 2.77 on the season. He’ll look to bounce back against the Mets on the road next week. Rotoworld Yesterday, 4:27 pm

  • Yu Darvish ready to return next week for Padres
Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters Yu Darvish (groin) will return next week.

Advice: No definitive date yet for Darvish to rejoin San Diego’s starting rotation, but he figures to take the ball at some point during their next series against the Nationals, most likely on Tuesday in place of rookie Adam Mazur. The 37-year-old veteran righty made it through Wednesday’s minor league rehab outing for High-A Fort Wayne without any issues and is on track to return next week. He’s been out since late May recovering from a groin strain. Rotoworld Yesterday, 3:39 pm

  • Jesse Winker hits solo homer in loss to D-Backs
Jesse Winker went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a loss to the D-Backs on Thursday.

Advice: Winker took Ryne Nelson deep in the sixth inning to cut the Diamondbacks’ lead to 4-2. The outfielder has homered in back-to-back games and now has eight roundtrippers on the year. It’s not quite the version we saw in Cincinnati a few years ago, but Winker has revitalized his career in DC with a slash of .270/.381/.421. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:33 pm
