  • Whit Merrifield misses cycle by a single
Whit Merrifield homered, tripled and doubled against the Tigers on Monday.

Advice: Merrifield had a chance to go for the cycle, but he flied out in his final at-bat in the seventh and the Royals couldn't get back to him in the ninth. That's because Merrifield was hitting seventh, even though he's been one of the Royals' best hitters. After tonight, his .828 OPS is the best on the squad, and he has 135 points of OBP on leadoff man Alcides Escobar (.341 to .206). Yesterday, 9:16 pm
  • Troy Tulowitzki hits grand slam
Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-5 and hit a grand slam Monday against the Reds.

Advice: Tulo is 3-for-11 with no strikeouts and two walks since coming off the disabled list on Friday. He's not much more than a fringe option in mixed leagues at this point, but now that the Jays are hitting, there are worse choices. Yesterday, 8:39 pm
  • Eduardo Nunez dealing with vision issues
Eduardo Nunez (head) is battling vision issues.

Advice: Nunez was dazed after a slide home on a passed ball Sunday, as the throw hit him in the helmet and he also took a knee to the jaw. He felt better Monday than he did after Sunday's game and hopes to avoid being placed on the 7-day concussion DL, but it's still up in the air at this point. Orlando Calixte is on the Giants' taxi squad in case they need to make a move. Yesterday, 7:04 pm

  • Zobrist (wrist) uncomfortable hitting righty
Ben Zobrist was pinch-hit for in the eighth inning Monday because his ailing left wrist still bothers him when he bats right-handed.

Advice: Zobrist returned to the lineup with the Padres starting righty Jarred Cosart, but his wrist didn't feel up to facing lefty Brad Hand. He's expected to be back in the lineup Tuesday against right-hander Dinelson Lamet, but it sounds like Zobrist might be benched for a bit when the opponent starts a left-hander. Yesterday, 5:24 pm
  • Chris Coghlan scratched with back spasms
Chris Coghlan was scratched from Monday's lineup due to lower back spasms.

Advice: Consider him day-to-day. Ezequiel Carrera took Coghlan's spot in left field. Yesterday, 4:45 pm

  • Brandon Phillips (knee) to return Tuesday
Brandon Phillips (knee) is expected to return to the Braves' lineup Tuesday.

Advice: Phillips is still sore after fouling a ball off his knee Sunday, so he's sitting out Monday. He could pinch-hit, though, and will be used in the designated hitter spot in Anaheim on Tuesday. Yesterday, 4:19 pm
    7:07 pm @LAA
  • Flores goes 3-for-4, now batting .313
Wilmer Flores finished 3-for-4 with a run scored in the Mets' 4-2 win over the Brewers on Monday.

Advice: Flores has an impressive .313/.340/.458 batting line in 33 games (96 at-bats) this season for New York. He probably deserves more playing time. Yesterday, 4:18 pm

  • Story slugs eighth homer Monday vs. SEA
Trevor Story hit his eighth home run of the season Monday in the Rockies' loss to the Mariners.

Advice: It was a solo shot in the fifth inning off Mariners starter Sam Gaviglio. Story hit the ball very well on his short minor league rehab assignment and he's looked good offensively since returning from the disabled list May 23. The young shortstop remains a good buy-low in fantasy leagues. Yesterday, 3:47 pm
  • Drew Robinson optioned to Triple-A
Rangers optioned INF/OF Drew Robinson to Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: He's clearing room for Adrian Beltre's return. Robinson was just called up Sunday. Yesterday, 3:36 pm

  • Correa homers, drives in three vs. Twins
Carlos Correa went 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBI, a walk, and a run scored in Monday’s comeback victory over the Twins.

Advice: Correa slugged a solo shot in the fourth inning before adding an RBI single in the Astros’ 11-run eighth inning. He also plated a run on a fielder’s choice in the ninth. The 22-year-old now has five straight multi-hit games and is hitting .571 (12-for-21) during that time. He has pulled his batting average up from .276 to .311 along the way. Yesterday, 3:12 pm
  • Logan Forsythe hits first Dodgers
Logan Forsythe swatted his first home run as a Dodgers on Monday against the Cardinals.

Advice: Forsythe took Kevin Siegrist deep to lead off the eighth inning, extending the Dodgers' lead. While he's hitting just .238 through his first 20 games with Los Angeles and this was his first homer, Forsythe has been getting on base as expected with a .355 OBP. Yesterday, 2:24 pm
  • Chase Utley homers, singles in victory
Chase Utley singled and swatted a solo homer Monday in St. Louis.

Advice: Utley got the scoring going with a long blast off of Mike Leake that went over the right-center field wall. The veteran second baseman has been playing regularly of late with Justin Turner (hamstring) out and has hit .324 with three homers over his last 11 games. Yesterday, 2:16 pm
  • Phillies activate Howie Kendrick from DL
Phillies activated INF/OF Howie Kendrick from the 10-day disabled list.

Advice: Kendrick ended up missing six weeks with an oblique strain. He'll start in left field and bat second in his return Monday, but will function in a roving utility role moving forward. Yesterday, 12:09 pm

  • Nunez not in Monday's lineup
Eduardo Nunez is not in Monday's lineup against the Nationals.

Advice: Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle notes that Nunez was being checked for a possible concussion, so there should be an update on his status soon. Christian Arroyo will start at third base and Mac Williamson will play left. Justin Ruggiano is starting in right field. Yesterday, 11:06 am

  • Murphy (illness) returns to Nats' lineup Mon.
Daniel Murphy (illness) has returned to the Nationals' lineup Monday against the Giants.

  • Ben Zobrist (wrist) returns to Cubs' lineup
Ben Zobrist (wrist) has returned to the Cubs' lineup Monday against the Padres.

Advice: Zobrist missed back-to-back games over the weekend after tweaking his left wrist during Friday's game, but he's feeling better now. He'll hit leadoff and start in right field while Jason Heyward will play center. Miguel Montero will start behind the plate and catch Kyle Hendricks. Yesterday, 10:34 am
  • Giants to call up Orlando Calixte
The Giants are expected to call up infielder-outfielder Orlando Calixte on Monday.

Advice: No official announcement yet from the team. Calixte, 25, was batting .287/.331/.507 with eight home runs, 26 RBI, and 11 steals over 41 games this season in Triple-A. He has experience between the infield and outfield and will serve in a utility role. Yesterday, 9:53 am

  • Eduardo Nunez scores twice against Braves
Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Braves.

Advice: Nunez picked up an RBI single off R.A. Dickey in the second inning. The 29-year-old third baseman has been hot of late, collecting 20 hits in 55 at-bats in his last 14 games. For the season as a whole, he is slashing .283/.306/.370 with two homers, 17 RBI, 21 runs scored and 13 steals over the course of 48 games played. Sunday, 3:57 pm

  • Howie Kendrick expected to return on Monday
Howie Kendrick is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

Advice: Where, or how much, he'll play upon his return remains up in the air. His injury allowed Aaron Altherr to seize a starting job in the Phillies' outfield and he has turned into perhaps their best hitter. Look for Kendrick to function in some sort of utility role. Sunday, 2:02 pm

  • Ben Zobrist (wrist) hoping to return Monday
Ben Zobrist (wrist) hopes to be back in the Cubs' lineup on Monday.

Advice: Zobrist tweaked his left wrist during an at-bat Friday and is out of the lineup Sunday for the second straight day. The Cubs are going with Javier Baez at second base and in the leadoff spot and an outfield of Ian Happ, Albert Almora and Jason Heyward. Sunday, 11:28 am

  • Drew Robinson recalled from Triple-A

  • Eduardo Nunez's hitting streak snapped
Eduardo Nunez was hitless in three at-bats with a walk in Saturday's game against the Braves, snapping his hitting streak at 12 games.

Advice: Nunez entered the day with the second-longest hitting streak in the majors, but just couldn't punch one past the defense. He is still hitting .353 (18-for-51) with eight runs scored, two homers and nine RBI over the past 13 games. Nunez remains a solid play in most fantasy formats and DFS play. Sunday, 12:33 am

  • Trevor Story starting to warm up
Trevor Story went 1-for-4 in Saturday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Story has hit safely in each of his past four games since coming off the 10-day disabled list. It isn't much, but he is 4-for-14 (.286) with two doubles, a homer and two RBI during the four-game run. He was a feel-good story in 2016, but so far he has been a big disappointment in 2017 with a dismal .192 batting average. Saturday, 11:55 pm
  • Chase Utley turns back clock on Saturday
Chase Utley went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Saturday's win against the Cubs.

Advice: Utley has pieced together a modest three-game hitting streak and he has driven in at least one run (five total RBI) during the span. The veteran second baseman has driven in 12 runs over his past 15 games to re-emerge as a useful fantasy option in most NL-only leagues and some deeper mixed formats. Saturday, 9:40 pm
  • Update: Ben Zobrist dealing with sore wrist
Updating an earlier report, Ben Zobrist is out with a sore wrist.

Advice: Zobrist said he felt "something" in his first at-bat on Friday night. Rookie Ian Happ is spelling him at second base Saturday against the Dodgers but Zobrist should be available off the bench. Consider him day-to-day. Saturday, 3:09 pm
  • Logan Forsythe sitting Saturday against Cubs
Logan Forsythe is not in the Dodgers' lineup Saturday against the Cubs.

Advice: He's out of the lineup for the second time in three days. Enrique Hernandez will fill in at third base and bat sixth against Cubs right-hander John Lackey. Forsythe has collected just one hit in 12 at-bats since coming off the disabled list earlier this week. Saturday, 1:09 pm
  • Ben Zobrist not in Cubs lineup on Saturday
Ben Zobrist is absent from the Cubs' starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Ian Happ is getting another start at second base while Jon Jay is starting in center field with Jason Heyward in right. The 36-year-old Zobrist is hitting .261/.352/.458 with six homers and 18 RBI on the season. Saturday, 12:17 pm
  • Daniel Murphyvout of lineup due to illness
Daniel Murphy is out of the Nationals' lineup on Saturday due to a stomach illness.

Advice: That explains his absence from the lineup the last two days and is much more encouraging than hearing he's dealing with an injury. Wilmer Difo continues fill in at second base in his absence. Saturday, 12:08 pm
  • Daniel Murphy remains out of Nationals lineup
Daniel Murphy is once again out of the Nationals' starting lineup on Saturday.

Advice: Acting manager Chris Speier indicated nothing was wrong physically on Friday, but it's a troubling sign that he's sitting out a second straight game. Wilmer Difo is starting in his place again and batting eighth for the Nationals on Saturday. Saturday, 9:17 am
  • Eduardo Nunez has two hits in lineup return
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) was in the starting lineup Friday against the Braves and he finished 2-for-4 with a stolen base.

Advice: He made it through the whole game and the stolen base was the best thing for fantasy owners to see, as he wouldn't have chanced stealing if his hamstring was giving him trouble. It appears safe to plug him back into the active fantasy lineup in all leagues allowing daily moves. Friday, 11:48 pm

  • Troy Tulowitzki activated from disabled list
Blue Jays activated SS Troy Tulowitzki from the 10-day disabled list.

Advice: The Jays also activated Josh Donaldson on Friday, so they have the left side of their infield back. Tulowitzki missed five weeks of action with a strained right hamstring. Friday, 12:41 pm
  • Murphy, Zimmerman get days off for Nats
Daniel Murphy is not in the Nationals' lineup Friday.

Advice: Ryan Zimmerman is also getting a day off. The Nats are going with Wilmer Difo at second base and Adam Lind at first. Friday, 12:05 pm
  • Tulowitzki (hamstring) set for activation
Troy Tulowitzki (hamstring) will be activated from the disabled list Friday.

Advice: Out for over a month with a strained right hamstring, Tulowitzki played in a few rehab games before being cleared to rejoin the Blue Jays. The shortstop will return to a .263/.295/.386 batting line. Friday, 8:32 am
  • Utley launches first homer of season in win
Chase Utley went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.

Advice: Utley had not hit a home run entering action on Thursday, but he finally got that monkey off his back when he socked a solo shot off Michael Wacha in the second inning. The veteran second baseman acts as a nice clubhouse presence, but not so much with the bat, as he is slashing a mere .204/.292/.312 on the season. Thursday, 10:23 pm
  • Correa homers among three hits against Tigers
Carlos Correa went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's 7-6 win over the Tigers.

Advice: Correa got the mini comeback started when he took Tigers starter Justin Verlander deep for a two-run bomb in the fourth inning. The homer was his seventh in 42 games this year. The 22-year-old isn't running, having yet to steal a base this year, but he's hitting .288/.370/.481 with 26 RBI and 29 runs scored in the middle of a good Astros lineup. Even if the steals don't come, Correa is on his way to another fine season at the dish. Thursday, 9:58 pm
  • Nunez (hamstring) hopes to play Friday
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) is hoping to return Friday against the Braves.

Advice: He was scratched from Thursday's lineup due to a left hamstring injury but received treatment throughout the game and thinks he'll be good to go on Friday. Nunez has played all over the diamond this year but has seen most of his action in left field recently. Thursday, 4:21 pm
    7:15 pm vs Was
  • Logan Forsythe getting the night off Thursday
Logan Forsythe is not in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday against the Cardinals.

Advice: It's a routine night off. Enrique Hernandez will handle third base and bat seventh Thursday against Cards right-hander Michael Wacha. Forsythe has gone just 1-for-8 with five strikeouts since coming off the disabled list on Tuesday. Thursday, 3:41 pm
  • Ben Zobrist hits sixth homer in Cubs' win
Ben Zobrist went 3-for-4 and hit his sixth homer as the Cubs topped the Giants 5-1 on Thursday.

Advice: Zobrist is 13-for-28 with three homers during his current eight-game hitting streak. He's raised his OPS from .686 to .822 over the stretch. Thursday, 2:43 pm
  • Correa in Astros' lineup Thursday vs. Tigers
Carlos Correa is in the Astros' starting lineup on Thursday against the Tigers.

Advice: Correa was given a couple days off with a minor illness. He is starting at shortstop and batting cleanup on Thursday night against Detroit right-hander Justin Verlander. Thursday, 12:38 pm
  • Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) scratched Thurs.
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) has been scratched from the Giants' lineup Thursday.

Advice: Nunez tweaked his left hamstring on Wednesday night and the Giants want to play it safe. It doesn't sound like something that will require a lengthy absence. Christian Arroyo is starting at third base now in the matinee game against the Cubs. Thursday, 9:13 am
    7:15 pm vs Was
  • Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) playing Thursday
Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) is in the Giants' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs.

  • Flores goes 2-for-4 with three RBI vs Padres
Wilmer Flores went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday.

Advice: He stroked a base-loaded double to plate three runs in the third inning, then came around to score on a Curtis Granderson single. He also worked a walk in the ballgame. The 25-year-old Flores now has a .307 batting average with three home runs and 14 RBI in 91 plate appearances. Wednesday, 9:21 pm

  • Eduardo Nunez tweaks hamstring in loss
Eduardo Nunez suffered a minor left hamstring tweak in Wednesday's loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Nunez did not have to leave the game (he finished 2-for-4) and expects to play on Thursday. He has stolen 12 bases this season, but might not be quite as active on the basepaths over the next few days. Wednesday, 8:57 pm

  • Kendrick (oblique) will need four games
Howie Kendrick (oblique) will play in a minimum of four games during his minor league rehab assignment.

Advice: Kendrick will be moving around from left field, third base and first base during his assignment, which is set to begin on Wednesday. He could be activated next week if he does not experience any setbacks. The veteran has not played since April 15 due to a strained oblique muscle. Wednesday, 1:45 pm

  • Carlos Correa remains out on Wednesday
Carlos Correa is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Tigers.

Advice: Correa also sat on Tuesday, as manager A.J. Hinch is giving him a few days off to clear his head. He had been 0-for-8 with three strikeouts in his last two games. He is also dealing with a little bit of a stomach bug. Marwin Gonzalez draws the start at shortstop in his place and is hitting second. Wednesday, 1:38 pm
  • Howie Kendrick (oblique) set for rehab games
Howie Kendrick (oblique) is set to begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Advice: Kendrick received clearance to play in minor league games after taking outdoor batting practice on Tuesday at Citizens Bank Park. He's been out since April 15, so the Phillies will probably have him stay at Triple-A through the weekend to get properly tuned up. Kendrick was batting .333/.395/.487 over his first 43 plate appearances this season with the Phils. The versatile veteran should get something close to everyday playing time when he returns. • Logan Forsythe atones in 13th inning
Logan Forsythe (foot) posted a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the 13th inning in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: Forsythe was hitless in four at-bats with a walk and four strikeouts before providing the heroics in extras. It was his first game since April 18 due to a fracture in his right big toe. Forsythe will continue to fill in at the hot corner until Justin Turner (hamstring) is ready to return, then he'll move back to his usual spot at second base. Wednesday, 1:04 am
  • Whit Merrifield singles, homers Tuesday
Whit Merrifield singled and hit a solo homer Tuesday versus the Yankees.

Advice: Merrified had one of four longballs that the Royals hit in the seventh and eighth innings, with his coming off of Jonathan Holder. It was his fifth homer already over just 105 at-bats, and he's now riding a modest nine-game hitting streak. Tuesday, 7:18 pm
  • Kendrick (oblique) nearing rehab assignment
Howie Kendrick (oblique) could begin a minor league rehab assignment later this week.

Advice: Kendrick took outdoor batting practice Tuesday for the first time since straining an oblique muscle in mid-April. He still has some boxes to check before the Phillies can map out an exact timetable for his return to the active roster. Aaron Altherr has run away with the Phillies' starting left field job over the last month. Tuesday, 2:16 pm

  • LAD activate 2B/3B Logan Forsythe from DL
Dodgers activated 2B/3B Logan Forsythe from the 10-day disabled list.

Advice: Forsythe will return as the Dodgers' fill-in third baseman on Tuesday night against the Cardinals with Justin Turner nursing a Grade 1 hamstring strain. He'll also bat leadoff. Chris Taylor and Chase Utley will continue to platoon at second base. Forsythe was batting .295/.407/.341 in 54 plate appearances with Los Angeles before landing on the disabled list April 19 with a fracture in his right big toe. He should be activated immediately in fantasy leagues. Tuesday, 2:07 pm
  • Correa out of Astros lineup on Tuesday night
Carlos Correa is out of the Astros' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Tigers.

Advice: Correa is 0-for-8 with three strikeouts over his last two games. Marwin Gonzalez will play shortstop and bat fifth Tuesday versus Detroit right-hander Jordan Zimmermann. Evan Gattis is also on the bench Tuesday for Houston. Daily Slant: Correa's absence makes the Astros a slightly less appealing team target, but they still hold plenty of upside against Jordan Zimmermann. The right-hander hasn't had success against hitters from either side of the plate - he's allowing a .396 wOBA to LHs and a .389 mark to RHs, with a HR/9 rate over 2.00 against hitters from both sides. His GB% sits under 30% and he's been getting absolutely crushed by lefties to start the year with an absurdly high 39.4 Hd-Sft% (20.0 Hd-Sft% vs. RHs). Add in the fact that Zimmermann simply can't miss bats (14.0 K%) and you have a very nice recipe for under-owned upside with the Astros. Tuesday, 1:19 pm
  • Story not in COL lineup for first game off DL
Trevor Story is not in the Rockies' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Phillies.

Advice: Story was activated from the disabled list Tuesday afternoon after missing two weeks with a left shoulder strain, but he's on the bench versus Philadelphia right-hander Zach Eflin. Alexi Amarista will start at shortstop and bat seventh for the visiting Rockies. Story has posted a disappointing .180/.289/.396 batting line in 33 games this season. Tuesday, 12:56 pm
  • Rockies activate Trevor Story from DL
Rockies activated SS Trevor Story from the 10-day disabled list.

Advice: As indicated Rockies manager Bud Black, Story will return to finish out the series in Philadelphia. The 24-year-old was batting just .180/.289/.396 through 33 games prior to landing on the disabled list with a left shoulder strain earlier this month. The Rockies and fantasy owners will have to hope that the time away did him some good. Tuesday, 12:30 pm
  • Story (shoulder) could be activated Tuesday
Trevor Story (shoulder) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Tuesday.

Advice: Rockies manager Bud Black passed along the news during an appearance on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM. Story, out since May 11 with a left shoulder strain, went 3-for-11 (.273) with a homer over four games during his minor league rehab assignment. The 24-year-old was batting just .180/.289/.396 through 33 games prior to the injury, but the power has still been there and he obviously plays half of his games in a great park for offense. Tuesday, 8:21 am
  • Tulowitzki goes 0-for-2 in rehab game Monday
Troy Tulowitzki (hamstring) went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Monday's rehab game with High-A Dunedin.

Advice: The veteran shortstop has been on the shelf since April 21 due to a strained right hamstring, but is finally making tangible strides toward a return to the Jays. Expect him to be activated from the disabled list later this week. Monday, 6:31 pm
  • Tulo (hamstring) hasn't suffered setback
Troy Tulowitzki (hamstring) didn't travel with High-A Dunedin for their road trip over the weekend.

Advice: In other words, Tulowitzki didn't suffer a setback with his hamstring. The 32-year-old is 3-for-8 (.375) with two RBI and two walks through three rehab games and will play in another one on Monday. However, it's unclear when he'll be activated. Tulowitzki has been sidelined since April 21 because of a right hamstring strain. Monday, 9:05 am
  • Ben Zobrist socks solo home run in victory
Ben Zobrist went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's win over the Brewers.

Advice: Zobrist has largely struggled this season, entering this contest holding a .244/.342/.402 triple-slash. He came through with homer No. 4 on the year in the first inning on Sunday, leading off with a solo shot against Chase Anderson. That was his first dinger since April 29. May 21, 3:04 pm
  • Daniel Murphy powers Nationals past Braves
Daniel Murphy blasted his ninth home run of the season on Sunday, powering the Nationals to a 3-2 victory over the Braves in Atlanta.

Advice: Murphy got the scoring started in the ballgame, taking Braves' starter Jaime Garcia deep for a solo shot in the second inning. He also singled in the ballgame, finishing the afternoon 2-for-4. He's enjoying another terrific season offensively, slashing .327/.387/.576 with nine homers and 33 RBI. May 21, 1:36 pm
  • Zobrist hitting leadoff for Cubs on Saturday
Ben Zobrist is hitting out of the leadoff spot for the Cubs on Saturday against the Brewers.

Advice: Manager Joe Maddon loves to shake things up, and a move to the top of the order could be just the thing to get Zobrist going. Kyle Schwarber, who has spent the entire season in the leadoff role, is batting second on Saturday. May 20, 8:29 am
  • Eduardo Nunez delivers in Giants' win
Eduardo Nunez went 2-for-4 with a two-run double in the ninth to lead the Giants past the Cardinals 6-5 on Friday.

Advice: Nunez isn't known as an RBI guy, but he's driven in eight runs in his last five games after totaling seven in 35 games to open the year (even though he spent most of that time hitting sixth and seventh). He needs to be hitting at his absolute peak in order to help a team as a starting left fielder, but the Giants feel that they don't have any better options at the moment. He'll keep playing regularly and stealing bases at a pretty good clip. May 19, 11:05 pm

  • Murphy homers in second straight game
Daniel Murphy went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in Friday’s loss to the Braves.

Advice: Murphy has homered in back-to-back games. The 32-year-old has calmed down since his monster April, but he’s still batting .325/.387/.567 with eight homers and 32 RBI through 39 games overall. May 19, 9:24 pm
