• Blue Jays recall Spencer Horwitz from Triple-A
Blue Jays recalled 1B Spencer Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: Horwitz was great at Buffalo, batting .335/.456/.514, but the Jays hadn’t called him up because it didn’t seem like he’d be able to coexist with fellow left-handed hitter Daniel Vogelbach. They’ll give it a try now, in part because they’ve grown at least somewhat comfortable with the idea of using Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at third base. Horwitz will likely prove to be one of the team’s better hitters, but as a platoon guy with no speed, his fantasy value should be limited to deep formats. Rotoworld 41 minutes ago
  • Recalled by Toronto
The Blue Jays recalled Horwitz from Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.

Advice: Since May 1, Horwitz is slashing .336/.435/.552 with three home runs, 23 RBI and 19 walks over 125 at-bats in Triple-A. He's played mostly at second base as of late, and the 26-year old has the versatility to fill in at first base or the outfield. Toronto designated Cavan Biggio in a corresponding move. • Blue Jays designate Cavan Biggio for assignment
Blue Jays designated INF-OF Cavan Biggio for assignment,

Advice: Spencer Horwitz is coming up in his place. Biggio saved himself from being non-tendered with a strong finish last season, but he could never get it going this year, batting .200/.323/.291 with two homers in 131 plate appearances. While he has versatility working in his favor, he’s not particularly good at any position, and he’s hit .219/.327/.351 since the beginning of 2021. The Jays will try to trade Biggio, but that might require taking on part of the approx. $2.4 million he’s still owed over the rest of the season. If he clears waivers because of that salary, he’ll likely remain with the organization, since he doesn’t have the service time to reject the assignment and still collect the money. • Lands on IL with sprained thumb
Double-A Wichita placed Rodriguez on the 7-day injured list Friday due to a sprained thumb, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Rodriguez sustained the injury Wednesday while sliding into second base on a double. The 21-year-old prospect has been tearing it up in Double-A this season, slashing .298/.479/.621 with eight home runs and 20 RBI over 167 plate appearances. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago
  • Throwing off flat ground
Snell (groin) began throwing off flat ground Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Advice: Assuming Snell has no issues with flat-ground throwing, the plan is for him to begin mound work at some point next week. It's still unclear if the 31-year-old southpaw will be able to return from the IL when eligible June 18, but some clarity may come once he's thrown a few bullpen sessions. Rotowire.com 51 minutes ago
  • Emmanuel Rodriguez injures thumb in Double-A
Emmanuel Rodriguez was placed on the IL at Double-A Wichita because of a sprained thumb suffered sliding into second base.

Advice: Rodriguez is playing like someone who might be able to jump from Double-A to the majors — he’s hit .298/.479/.621 with eight homers and nine steals in 167 plate appearances — but injuries have limited him to just 37 games thus far and now he’ll miss at least another week. • Touches 90 mph in sim game
Kershaw (shoulder) hit 90 mph during his two-inning simulated game Friday, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Advice: Friday's session was the second simulated game for Kershaw. The velocity he showed is a good sign that the veteran southpaw is progressing well through his offseason shoulder surgery. Kershaw will throw another simulated game next week, though when he will begin a minor-league rehab stint remains to be seen. Rotowire.com Today, 3:20 pm
  • Rangers bring back INF Davis Wendzel
Rangers recalled INF Davis Wendzel from Triple-A Round Rock.

Advice: Wendzel spent most of April and May with the Rangers, going 2-for-19 with a homer and no walks. He’ll be available as a backup infielder while Corey Seager is sidelined. Rotoworld Today, 3:14 pm
  • Rangers designate OF Derek Hill for assignment
Rangers designated OF Derek Hill for assignment.

Advice: Hill gets the boot because of the Corey Seager injury, since Seager isn’t going on the IL but the Rangers want another infielder, in this case Davis Wendzel, available if needed. Hill was 2-for-9 with a steal in 2 1/2 weeks with the club. Rotoworld Today, 3:12 pm
