Jeimer Candelario (knee) was held out of the Reds’ starting lineup once again for Friday night’s tilt against the Cardinals.
Advice: It’s the third straight game that the 30-year-old slugger has missed due to the knee issue. There haven’t been any indications yet that the injury will require a trip to the injured list, but if it lingers through the weekend the Reds may be forced to make a move. Noelvi Marte will start at the hot corner on Friday night while Spencer Steer mans first base for the Reds. RotoworldFriday, 1:09 pm
Jung (wrist) will attempt to swing a bat Friday, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Advice: Jung's return has been delayed due to inflammation in his surgically repaired right wrist, but he's ready to test things out swinging a bat after resting for a week and receiving a cortisone shot. The third baseman could be activated soon if things go well in the cage Friday, but when Jung does return he might be eased back into action by playing every other day or receiving one off day per series, according to Grant. Jung has been sidelined since early April. Rotowire.comFriday, 11:57 am
Jonathan India went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and an RBI against the Cardinals on Thursday.
Advice: India started the game with a single and scored on Elly De La Cruz’s RBI triple. In the second inning, he had an RBI double to give the Reds a 2-0 lead. India is now on a nine-game hitting streak and he’s 17-for-33 (.515) in that stretch. In June, he’s 30-for-80 (.375) with 18 runs scored and 14 RBI in 24 games. India’s average is up to .272 on the season with a .771 OPS and 32 RBI.
Jeimer Candelario out Thursday with knee tendinitis
Jeimer Candelario (knee) remains out of the lineup for Thursday’s contest against the Cardinals.
Advice: Candelario will get another day off to rest and recover as he continues to manage right knee tendinitis. The expectation is that he’ll be able to manage the ongoing issue moving forward, but if he’s unable to return in a couple days, the Reds might not have a choice besides sending him to the injured list. Candelario (hamstring) isn't in the Reds' lineup for Thursday's game against the Cardinals.
Advice: Manager David Bell said Wednesday that Candelario has been dealing with hamstring tendinitis for the past week, and while the team still doesn't plan on placing the 30-year-old on the injured list, the injury will cause him to miss a second consecutive game. Spencer Steer will get the nod at first base as a result, allowing Nick Martini to start in left field and bat fifth. Rotowire.comThursday, 1:59 pm
Stott is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Marlins.
Advice: He was out of the lineup Tuesday against a lefty and will also begin this one on the bench as the Marlins send southpaw Trevor Rogers to the hill. Stott did pinch hit in Tuesday's contest, so perhaps another mid-game appearance is possible. Whit Merrifield is handling second base for the Phillies on Thursday. Rotowire.comThursday, 11:48 am
Bryson Stott is not in the Phillies’ starting lineup on Thursday.
Advice: Stott will get a routine day off on Thursday with left-handed Trevor Rogers on the mound. Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop and bat sixth with Whit Merrifield starting at 2B. Trea Turner is also at DH with Kyle Schwarber moving to left field as David Dahl sits against a lefty. RotoworldThursday, 11:45 am
India went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to Pittsburgh.
Advice: No one in baseball is hotter than India, who leads MLB with a .571 average and is second in OPS (1.654) over the last seven days. He's hit safely in eight straight contests, going 15-for-29 with four walks, two steals, seven doubles, one home run, three RBI and eight additional runs scored. Rotowire.comThursday, 6:08 am
Castro went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run home run and two runs scored in Wednesday's win over Arizona while also being hit by a pitch.
Advice: Castro was hit by a pitch in his second at-bat and responded with a leadoff double on the first pitch in his next trip to the plate, before then coming home on a double from Trevor Larnach. The utility man would add a two-run homer in the fifth to increase Minnesota's lead to seven runs, giving him two homers over his last five games. Castro has also hit safely in nine straight, posting multiple hits in five of those contests. He's batting .405 (15-for-37) over that stretch with eight RBI and nine runs scored.
