    • Starting rehab assignment
Abreu (ankle) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Tuesday, Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette reports.

Advice: Abreu is slated to bat second and serve as the designated hitter for the WooSox. He's been sidelined for just over two weeks with a right ankle sprain, so Abreu shouldn't need many rehab at-bats before rejoining the Red Sox' active roster. Rotowire.com Today, 11:26 am

    • Three hits in big win
Vientos went 3-for-5 with a double and two runs scored in Monday's win over the Rangers.

Advice: The 24-year-old snapped out of an offensive swoon that had seen him bat .188 (6-for-32) over the prior 10 games. Vientos has a hammerlock on the starting job at third base for the Mets -- since returning to the majors in mid-May, he's slashing .292/.360/.494 with four homers and 14 RBI in 26 contests. His defense has even gotten more reliable, as he's committed only one error during that stretch and has a minus-2.9 UZR/150 through 206.1 innings at the hot corner, a huge improvement on the minus-13.4 UZR/150 he managed in 153 innings last year. • Draws five walks Monday
Freeman went 1-for-1 with two runs and five walks in a 9-5 win against Colorado on Monday.

Advice: Freeman's patience was on display in the victory, as he tied a Dodgers franchise record by drawing five free passes. The veteran isn't shy about taking walks -- his 14.6 percent walk rate on the campaign ranks eighth among qualified MLB hitters and is on pace for the highest mark of his career. Of course, Freeman is plenty capable when swinging the bat as well, as he's currently batting .302, putting him on pace for his fifth straight season hitting at least .300. • Wild but effective Monday
Hicks allowed four hits and four walks while striking out four batters over five scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.

Advice: Hicks recently battled an illness but was able to take his regular turn in the rotation Monday. He threw only 48 of 87 pitches for strikes and tied a season high in issuing four free passes, but he was able to work around constant traffic on the basepaths to finish with five scoreless frames. It was the first time Hicks has held an opponent scoreless since his season debut against San Diego on March 30, though he's been quite reliable in yielding three or fewer earned runs in all but one of his 15 outings. The right-hander holds a 2.82 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 68:28 K:BB through 76.2 innings on the season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:18 pm

    • Smacks 12th home run
De La Cruz went 1-for-5 with a three-run homer in Monday's 7-6 extra-innings loss versus the Cardinals.

Advice: The 27-year-old's only hit in this game was a big one, as he tied the score at 4-4 with a three-run blast off JoJo Romero in the eighth inning. De La Cruz is already up to 12 homers in 2024 after he totaled 19 long balls in 153 games last year. The power production helps offset De La Cruz's underwhelming .242/.295/.416 slash line. • Freddie Freeman walks five times in victory
Freddie Freeman singled and walked five times Monday against the Rockies.

Advice: Freeman became the first player to walk five times in a game since Matt Chapman on Aug. 12, 2021 and the first to both walk five times and collect a hit since, unbelievably, Rougned Odor on Aug. 2, 2018. Freeman had two runs scored and zero RBI to show for his success tonight. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:08 pm
    • Hicks throws five shutout innings against Cubs
Jordan Hicks threw five shutout innings and got a no-decision against the Cubs on Monday.

Advice: Hicks gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four. It was a solid start for Hicks, who lowered his ERA to 2.82 on the season with the effort. The converted reliever hasn’t completed six innings in a start since April, but he continues to pitch well while he’s out there. The 27-year-old right-hander is set to face his former team the Cardinals on the road this weekend.

    • Throws bullpen session
DeGrom (elbow) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The session contained only fastballs and marked the first time deGrom has thrown off a mound since he underwent Tommy John surgery last June. Everything went according to plan, and deGrom will continue to the ramp-up process as he eyes a return from the 60-day injured list sometime in the second half of the season. • Jacob deGrom (elbow) throws off mound
Jacob deGrom threw off a mound Monday for the first time since Tommy John surgery last June.

Advice: DeGrom was limited to fastballs today, but it’s still a big step. He’s still several weeks away from beginning a rehab assignment. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:38 pm
