• Swipes bag in loss
Mateo went 0-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Yankees.

Advice: Mateo remains in a slump -- he's 0-for-10 over his last four games -- but he's picked up two steals over six contests since he returned from a concussion. With Jordan Westburg (hip) leaving Tuesday's game early, Mateo's playing time could rise in the short term if his teammate is forced to miss additional games. Mateo is at a .231/.280/.431 slash line with four home runs, 16 RBI, 22 runs scored and 12 steals across 48 contests this season. Rotowire.com Today, 9:59 am

  • Smacks homer Tuesday
Donovan went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Donovan has gone 15-for-51 (.294) over his last 13 games, adding two homers and seven RBI in that span. The 27-year-old got a rare start at third base Tuesday with Nolan Arenado taking a day off, though Donovan has found consistent playing time between left field and second base for much of the year. He's at a .247/.319/.380 slash line with six homers, 32 RBI, 32 runs scored and one stolen base over 67 games. Rotowire.com Today, 9:56 am

  • Pirates option Alika Williams after IL stint
Pirates activated INF Alika Williams from the 10-day injured list and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Advice: Rather than carry the light-hitting Williams, the Pirates will go with Jared Triolo as their lone infield backup for now. The alternative was probably sending Jack Suwinski back to Triple-A. Rotoworld Today, 9:32 am

  • Activated and optioned
The Pirates reinstated Williams (wrist) from the 10-day injured list Wednesday and optioned him to Triple-A Indianapolis, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Pittsburgh will keep Jared Triolo on hand as its lone reserve infielder while Williams reports to the Triple-A club now that he's made a full recovery from the right wrist sprain that initially sent him to the IL on June 2. Williams had already been in the midst of a rehab assignment with Indianapolis, going 3-for-11 at the plate over three games. Rotowire.com Today, 9:05 am

  • Draws start at third base
Alexander will start at third base and bat eighth in Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals.

Advice: Alexander will get his second start at the hot corner over the last three games. He's been seeing more reps at third base lately as a result of Eugenio Suarez's struggles. Suarez is also in Wednesday's lineup, occupying the designated-hitter slot. Rotowire.com Today, 8:57 am

  • Starting Wednesday after all
Lopez will start at second base and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Advice: The initial lineup the Marlins released for Wednesday's series finale called for Lopez to get the day off, but he'll end up sticking in the lineup while Jazz Chisholm heads to the bench after getting scratched with a hamstring injury. Lopez went 0-for-8 with two runs and a walk while starting at the keystone in the first two games of the series. Rotowire.com Today, 8:07 am

  • Takes seat Wednesday
Lopez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Vidal Brujan, who contributed a walk-off RBI single in Tuesday's 9-8 extra-inning win over the Cardinals, will start at second base Wednesday. Lopez will get a day off after going 1-for-11 across his last four contests. Rotowire.com Today, 7:39 am

  • Whit Merrifield out of Phillies lineup once again
Whit Merrifield is on the bench for a sixth consecutive game Wednesday against the Padres.

Advice: After hitting a big homer in London, Merrifield got to remain in the Phillies lineup for a few days and came up with a few more hits. However, he’s at just .190/.274/.298 for the season, and he’s been a non-factor this last week. It’s not hard to imagine the Phillies cutting him loose if Johan Rojas gets hot in Triple-A and pushes his way back onto the roster. Rotoworld Today, 7:34 am

  • Day off Wednesday
Cronenworth is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game in Philadelphia.

Advice: Cronenworth will get his first day off in more than a month as the Padres and Phillies conclude their series with a day game after a night game. Tyler Wade will fill in at second base while Cronenworth gets some rest. Rotowire.com Today, 7:18 am
