    • Jake McCarthy has three hits, two steals in win
Jake McCarthy went 3-for-4 while stealing two bases in a 5-2 win for the Diamondbacks over the Nationals on Thursday.

Advice: He also scored two runs. McCarthy’s pair of steals give him 12 on the season, while the three-hit game sees his average improve to .298 on the campaign. The 26-year-old was a player who showed flashes of this type of talent in 2022, but at least over the first half of the season, it appears he’s put things together quite nicely. • Paul Sewald hurls scoreless frame for save
Paul Sewald allowed a hit and picked up a strikeout in a scoreless inning to get a save against the Nationals on Thursday.

Advice: Sewald has been sensational since returning from the injured list, and the scoreless inning lowers his ERA to a miniscule 0.71. The right-hander also has collected eight saves and will continue to operate as the Diamondbacks closer throughout 2024. Rotoworld 32 minutes ago
    • Ryne Nelson fires seven strong in win over Nats
Ryne Nelson worked seven innings while giving up two runs to pick up a win Thursday over the Nationals.

Advice: Nelson allowed just three hits, and he struck out two while walking no one. He needed just 70 pitches to get through the seven frames, and outside of two solo homers, the 26-year-old pitched admirably. This also makes back-to-back strong starts for Nelson, as he has given up just three runs over those 13 innings. It’s worth pointing out that Washington and the White Sox were his opponents, however. Nelson will look to continue lowering his now 5.18 ERA against the Twins next Thursday. Rotoworld 33 minutes ago

    • MacKenzie Gore allows 10 hits in loss to D-Backs
MacKenzie Gore allowed four runs while working five innings in a loss Thursday to the Diamondbacks.

Advice: Gore did strike out seven, but he allowed 10 hits while also issuing two walks. Unsurprisingly, this left Gore with a high pitch count, as he needed 103 pitches to get through those five frames. The 25-year-old southpaw was coming off back-to-back excellent outings, but outside of the strikeouts, there weren’t many positives here. Gore is scheduled to face the Padres next week. • Taking seat Thursday
Estrada is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Cardinals.

Advice: The Giants are giving Brett Wisely a start at second base and Nick Ahmed will be his double-play partner at shortstop. It seems to be a routine day off for Estrada, who had started each of the previous 14 contests. Rotowire.com 33 minutes ago

    • Jasson Domínguez out eight weeks with injury
According to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Jasson Domínguez will miss up to eight weeks with an oblique strain.

Advice: We knew the oblique would keep Domínguez out for a couple of weeks, but this is an extensive period of time and one that could threaten his ability to contribute MLB at-bats this season. If Domínguez doesn’t return to minor league action until late August and then gets a couple of weeks to get his timing back at Triple-A, it would be September even before the Yankees can think about promoting him. If all goes well, he could be a candidate for a mid-September call-up, but the Yankees would then be thrusting him into a major role in the middle of a pennant race after missing a major chunk of time. It’s a shame because he was looking great after Tommy John surgery, hitting .356/.404/.609 with six homers and 13 RBIs in 23 games across three levels. Rotoworld 59 minutes ago

    • Moves rehab to Triple-A
Foscue (oblique) was transferred to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday to continue his rehab assignment.

Advice: Foscue went 7-for-17 with one home run in six games with the Rangers' Arizona Complex League affiliate after missing two months with a left oblique strain. He could be ready for activation soon, but Foscue isn't a given to rejoin the major-league roster at that time. Rotowire.com Today, 12:02 pm

    • Nolan Jones (illness) remains out of the lineup
Nolan Jones (illness) is not in the Rockies lineup on Thursday against the Dodgers.

Advice: Jones will miss his second straight game with an illness as Sean Bouchard fills in for him in left field and bats second. Jones has looked better since coming off the IL, going 5-for-13 (.385) with one stolen base and just two strikeouts to eight walks. The plate discipline improvements are really nice to see and there might still be a buy low window here before he returns to the lineup from this bout of sickness. Rotoworld Today, 12:00 pm

    • Outrighted to Triple-A
The Rangers outrighted Tinoco to Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday.

Advice: Tinoco has the option to decline the assignment and become a free agent if he wants. If he does choose to stick around, he'll provide relief depth at Round Rock. Rotowire.com Today, 11:59 am
