    • Albert Suárez limits Athletics to two runs in win
Albert Suárez limited the Athletics to two runs in six innings to get a win Friday.

Advice: He struck out six while allowing four hits. Two of those four hits were solo homers, but outside of the roundtrippers it was a very strong start for the 34-year-old in what has been one of the most surprising stories of 2024. Suarez now has an ERA of 2.48, and he doesn’t appear to be giving up a spot in this Baltimore rotation. His last start before the break is scheduled Thursday against the Cubs. • Captures fifth win
Suarez (5-2) earned the win Friday against Oakland, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk over six innings. He struck out six.

Advice: The 34-year-old required only 86 pitches to collect his second consecutive quality start. He held the Athletics in check, as the only blemishes on his outing came via two solo shots yielded to Miguel Andujar and Shea Langeliers. Suarez now sports a 2.48 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 51:23 K:BB across 65.1 innings this season. He is currently slated to make his next start against the Cubs at home. Rotowire.com 41 minutes ago

    • Clay Holmes blows save against Red Sox
Clay Holmes allowed two home runs on two hits in a blown save on Friday against the Red Sox.

Advice: Holmes pushed the Red Sox to their final strike before Masataka Yoshida sent a sinker deep into the right field seats. The home run was just the second Holmes has allowed this season, matching his total from last season. It was also his fifth blown save in what’s been an up-and-down season so far. • Nestor Cortes strikes out eight Red Sox
Nestor Cortes allowed just one run in six innings against the Red Sox on Friday. He struck out eight and walked one in a no-decision.

Advice: Cortes carved the Red Sox up in this one. His fastball and sweeper each induced six swings-and-misses as those two pitches along with his cutter rendered the Sox’s bats powerless. The quality start was Cortes’ ninth of the season as he’s led a fantastic bounce-back campaign. Rotoworld Today, 8:06 pm

    • Drew Thorpe strikes out five in win over Marlins
Drew Thorpe was terrific in Friday night’s victory over the Marlins in Miami, surrendering just one run on three hits over his 6 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The rookie right-hander punched out five batters on the night while issuing a pair of free passes. He held the Marlins scoreless through the first six frames, but returned for the seventh where he allowed a one-out double to Dane Myers before turning the ball over to the bullpen — and he ultimately scored. Thorpe generated 10 swings and misses on 90 pitches on the night — nine of those on his changeup — while posting an underwhelming CSW of 21 percent. He’ll see if he can replicate this success as he carries a 3-1 record, 3.38 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and an 18/14 K/BB ratio (26 2/3 innings) into his final start of the first half on Wednesday against the Twins. • Managing groin tightness
Torres exited Friday's game against the Red Sox due to right groin tightness.

Advice: Torres suffered a similar injury to his right groin a few weeks ago, and he seems to have aggravated the issue while legging out an infield single during Friday's contest. The Yankees don't have any plans in place to take him in for imaging at the moment, which suggests the team doesn't believe his latest flareup is anything too severe. However, it remains possible the 27-year-old sits out Saturday's contest as a precaution. Rotowire.com Today, 6:45 pm

    • Gleyber Torres leaves game with groin tightness
Gleyber Torres was pulled from Friday’s contest against the Red Sox in the fourth inning due to right groin tightness.

Advice: It’s the same injury that has been bothering Torres for a while now, but the Yankees announced that they don’t believe it’s severe enough to require imaging. If that’s the case, it seems unlikely that he’ll require a trip to the injured list. For now, he should be considered day-to-day, but a lot may depend on how he’s feeling when he wakes up on Saturday. Rotoworld Today, 6:29 pm

    • Exits with apparent injury
Torres was removed from Friday's game versus Boston with an apparent leg injury, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Torres came up limping after beating out an infield single in the fourth inning, and he was immediately replaced on first base by Oswaldo Cabrera. Torres missed a few games in June due to a groin issue. The details of his latest injury will come once the Yankees are able to take a closer look at him. Rotowire.com Today, 5:55 pm

    • Gleyber Torres leaves game with apparent injury
Gleyber Torres was removed from Friday night’s showdown against the Red Sox in the fourth inning due to an apparent injury.

Advice: Torres hustled out an infield single that loaded the bases in the third inning, but he came up hobbling and had to be pulled from the game. It’s unclear if it’s a recurrence of the groin issue that he has been dealing with, or if he tweaked something in his leg while busting it down the line. Expect the Yankees to provide an update on his status shortly. Rotoworld Today, 5:46 pm
