    • Sitting against lefty
Heyward is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Heyward will join fellow left-handed hitters Gavin Lux and Cavan Biggio on the bench for the series finale in Colorado while the Rockies bring lefty Ty Blach to the hill. With Heyward sitting, Miguel Vargas will pick up a start in left field and will bat seventh. Rotowire.com 36 minutes ago

    • Resting against lefty
Biggio is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: Biggio will join fellow left-handed hitters Gavin Lux and Jason Heyward on the bench for the series finale in Colorado while the Rockies send southpaw Ty Blach to the hill. Enrique Hernandez will enter the lineup at third base as Biggio's replacement. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago

    • Getting day off versus lefty
Lux is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Rockies.

Advice: The lefty-hitting Lux will sit for the second time in the four-game series while the Rockies send another southpaw (Ty Blach) to the bump. Chris Taylor will fill in for Lux at second base. Rotowire.com 40 minutes ago

    • Begins hitting progression
Hernaiz (ankle) has begun a hitting progression, MLB.com reports.

Advice: Hernaiz was able to shed his walking boot in the first half of June, and he's now graduated from the strength and fitness program that he'd begun at that point. The infielder will likely progress to full baseball activities after the hitting progression before eventually embarking on what could be a fairly robust rehab assignment. Rotowire.com 44 minutes ago

    • Resuming rehab assignment Friday
Thomas (hamstring) is scheduled to resume his rehab assignment Friday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, Theo Mackie of The Arizona Republic reports.

Advice: After going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI in the third game of his current rehab assignment in the ACL on Monday, Thomas reported what Arizona manager Torey Lovullo termed as "general soreness." Fortunately for Thomas, he looks to have avoided a setback, and he'll be back in action Friday with the soreness having subsided. Jody Jackson of Bally Sports Arizona adds that Thomas is also scheduled to play in an ACL game Sunday, and if all goes well, the outfielder could shift his rehab assignment to a higher-level affiliate next week. Thomas has been on the shelf since April 1 with a strained left hamstring and was pulled off his initial rehab assignment in early May after experienced renewed discomfort. • Getting imaging on quad
Caratini will undergo imaging on his injured left quad Thursday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Caratini had to be removed from Wednesday's game against the White Sox due to the injured and remained "pretty sore" Thursday, according to Astros manager Joe Espada. The skipper thinks Caratini could require a stint on the injured list, but the club will wait for the exam results to come in before making that decision. Houston is already carrying Cesar Salazar and Cooper Hummel on the roster as additional catcher options behind Yainer Diaz and Caratini. Rotowire.com 46 minutes ago

    • In strengthening program
Ruiz (wrist) is progressing through a strengthening program and is expected to begin baseball activities within two weeks of its completion, MLB.com reports.

Advice: News has been relatively sparse regarding Ruiz's recovery from the wrist strain that landed him on the injured list nearly a month ago, and this report underscores how deliberate it's apparently been. Given the timeline implied, it seems a virtual certainty Ruiz won't be ready for activation until after the All-Star break, when also factoring in what should be a fairly lengthy rehab assignment. • Full game at DH
Polanco (hamstring) took a full game's worth of plate appearances as the designated hitter in Triple-A Tacoma's win over Las Vegas on Wednesday, going 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.

Advice: Polanco's ability to play in back-to-back games for the second time in his rehab assignment appears to bode well for the chances of imminent activation. The veteran infielder already logged seven innings on defense Tuesday, so there may be nothing left to prove for Polanco in terms of the fitness of his previously ailing hamstring. • Says his back is fine
Gibson said Thursday that he feels fine after being scratched from a scheduled start Wednesday in Miami due to back tightness, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: The pitcher even said he's hoping to pitch in relief Thursday against the Giants, although that seems unlikely. It's not clear when Gibson might make his next start, but it sounds like a stint on the injured list can safely be ruled out. Rotowire.com 59 minutes ago
