    • Ceddanne Rafaela homers in 10th to lead Red Sox
      After Masataka Yoshida’s homer tied it in the ninth, Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run homer in the 10th to propel the Red Sox past the Yankees 5-3 on Friday.

      Advice: Yoshida hit a game-tying homer off Clay Holmes, and Rafaela followed with a go-ahead blast off Tommy Kahnle in the 10th. It was Rafaela’s 10th homer, which is impressive for a 23-year-old with such middling exit velocity numbers. Better plate discipline would be nice, but since Rafaela has proved adept at shortstop and in center field, he seems like a long to become a long-term regular. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago
       
    • Masataka Yoshida hits game-tying homer in ninth
      Masataka Yoshida went 1-for-4 with a dramatic two-run home run in a 5-3 win for the Red Sox over the Yankees on Friday.

      Advice: This was a great moment for Yoshida in what’s been a disastrous season. Down to his final strike, he took Clay Holmes deep to push this game to extra innings where the Red Sox would eventually win it. It was Yoshida’s first homer since April 20th as a thumb strain kept him out for about six weeks. Still, he’s started against every right-handed pitcher since returning from the IL and is 8-for-22 over his last five games. Rotoworld Today, 8:09 pm
       
    • Max Fried can’t stop Phillies’ bats
      Max Fried allowed 11 hits and five earned runs in six innings of work on Friday against the Phillies. He struck out four and walked one in a loss.

      Advice: This was a pivotal game for the Braves as they try to claw their way back into the NL East race and Fried simply did not have it. He lived in the heart of the zone and the Phillies made him pay time and time again. They had base runners in five out of six innings and looked incredibly comfortable in the box all night.       Fried (7-4) allowed five runs on 11 hits and a walk over six innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Phillies.

      Advice: Fried worked through three scoreless frames before beginning to unravel. He gave up three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth. Of the five runs he allowed, four came via a pair of two-run shots from Trea Turner. Fried had given up just three runs over his previous three starts but saw his season ERA jump from 2.91 to 3.18 after Friday's hiccup. His next start is lined up to be in Arizona.       O'Hearn is not in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener against the Athletics.

      Advice: O'Hearn will retreat to the bench Friday with Oakland sending southpaw Hogan Harris to the mound. O'Hearn is coming off an 0-for-4 effort with two strikeouts in Thursday's 7-3 loss to the Mariners, but since June 1 he is slashing .326/.381/.516 with four home runs and 19 RBI over 95 at-bats.       Advice: Bichette was hit by a pitch during Wednesday's contest and had to sit out Thursday's game as a result, but he seems to be feeling well enough to play Friday.       India went 3-for-5 with a home run and two additional runs in Thursday's 8-4 win against the Yankees.

      Advice: India hit one of three homers for Cincinnati, swatting a solo shot in the third inning. He finished with his ninth multi-hit game over his past 12 contests, a stretch during which he's batting a blistering .467 (21-for-45) with Thursday's homer, six RBI, 13 runs and two stolen bases.     • Struggles in Independence Day loss
      Stroman (7-4) took the loss against Cincinnati on Thursday, pitching five innings and allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings.

      Advice: Stroman struggled to keep the ball in the park Thursday -- of the five hits he allowed, three were long balls, and all five of the runs he yielded came on home runs. The right-hander hadn't been prone to the long ball coming in, as he hadn't given up a homer in three of his prior four starts. Stroman hasn't been pitching particularly well of late, though, as he has a 6.43 ERA across 21 frames covering his past four outings.       Taillon (5-4) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits over seven innings against the Phillies. He struck out seven.

      Advice: Taillon allowed a two-out, solo home run by Nick Castellanos in the fourth that left the Cubs in a 2-0 hole, but Taillon then received nine runs of support while retiring 10 of the last 11 Phillies he faced to cruise to his fifth victory of the season. It was the fifth-straight start for Taillon in which he's tossed at least six innings while allowing three or fewer earned runs, posting a 2.25 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 30 strikeouts over 29 innings during that stretch.
