    • Nick Lodolo “aiming to return on Monday”
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, Nick Lodolo (groin) will throw a bullpen on Saturday and is “aiming to return on Monday.”

Advice: Lodolo threw a bullpen on Wednesday and felt good, so the bullpen on Saturday could be the final step to getting him back on the mound in an MLB game. That will mean his stay on the IL was the minimum amount of time, so the Reds feel that a rehab start is unnecessary. Rotoworld 56 minutes ago

    • TJ Friedl hopes to take batting practice soon
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, TJ Friedl (broken thumb) “continues to progress” and hopes to take “batting practice soon.”

Advice: TJ Friedl is back to hitting off flips as he works back from a broken thumb. Once he is able to take batting practice, his next step will likely be live at-bats and a rehab assignment. It’s possible that he could be back around mid-June but it will depend on how his thumb feels while taking live swings. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago

    • Missing another start
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: He'll remain on the bench for a 10th consecutive game while he continues to heal up from a left intercostal strain. Atlanta had initially viewed Riley as day-to-day when he departed an April 12 game against the Mets with the injury, but the club likely would have placed him on the 10-day injured list had they known the issue would have kept him out for more than a week. Riley was able to exhibit some sign of progress by taking swings on the field Tuesday, but it's not clear if he'll be on track to rejoin the starting nine during this weekend's three-game series in Pittsburgh. • Hitting flipped pitches
Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flipped balls in the batting cage and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return from the 10-day injured list. • Still on track for Monday return
Lodolo (groin) threw a successful extended bullpen session Wednesday and is set to throw off the mound again Saturday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Assuming he comes out of Saturday's session without any hiccups, Lodolo will be set to return from the 15-day injured list to start against the Cardinals on Monday, the first day he'll be eligible for activation. The left-hander is working his way back from a left groin strain. Rotowire.com Today, 7:38 am

    • Resting Thursday
Stephenson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.

Advice: After catching in both of the past two days, Stephenson will get a breather Thursday as the Reds and Padres wrap up their series with an afternoon game. Luke Maile will replace Stephenson as the Reds' starting catcher. Rotowire.com Today, 7:32 am
    • Homers in win
Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in Wednesday's win over the Dodgers.

Advice: Marte singled in his first at-bat to extend his hitting streak to 23 games and later added a solo homer to lead off the eighth, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-0 lead. The long ball was the second baseman's fifth this month and he's now recorded at least one RBI in three of his last five games, batting .318 over that brief stretch. • Ketel Marte homers, extends hit streak to 21 games
Ketel Marte went 2-for-5 with a solo homer in the Diamondbacks’ 6-0 win over the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Advice: Marte came into this one riding a 20-game hitting streak. He extended it to 21 games right away with a base hit in the first inning. Marte later took Ryan Yarbrough deep for a solo homer in the eighth inning. The 30-year-old second baseman is hitting .291/.339/.523 with 10 homers, 35 runs scored, and 27 RBI across 221 plate appearances. Rotoworld Yesterday, 10:03 pm

    • Swats another homer
Chapman went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run and an additional run during Wednesday's 9-5 extra-inning win over the Pirates.

Advice: The 31-year-old tagged Jared Jones for a two-run home run in the sixth inning, Chapman's second straight game with a long ball. He's been red-hot in his last five games, going 11-for-18 (.611) with seven extra-base hits, 10 runs, five RBI and two stolen bases. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:25 pm
