      Ryne Stanek got the final out to get a save against the Rangers on Saturday.

      Advice: Stanek gets the save even in a 7-3 game because he faced the tying run. The right-hander allows a two-run single to Marcus Semien, but those runs were charged to Eduard Bazardo. He was able to get Corey Seager out to end the game, but it’s worth noting it took a terrific play by Tyler Locklear to get that out. Stanek now has seven saves in 2024.       Charlie Morton allowed one run on three hits in six innings in a win over the Rays on Saturday.

      Advice: Morton looked like his old self, striking out eight and walking two. He induced 22 whiffs on 49 swings for a ridiculous 45 percent whiff rate and 35 percent CSW.       Brewers’ manager Pat Murphy told reporters on Saturday that Devin Williams (back) remains on track to return after the All-Star break.

      Advice: Murphy also noted that the 29-year-old hurler is expected to get on a mound soon as he continues his recovery from a pair of stress fractures in his back. While Trevor Megill has been outstanding in his stead, Williams is one of the premiere closers in all of baseball and should jump right back into the Brewers’ ninth inning role as soon as he’s healthy enough to do so.       Advice: Murphy also added that Williams remains on track to return just after the All-Star break, although that would seem to be a tentative timetable given that the reliever has yet to resume throwing off a mound.       Advice: Verlander was geared up to face his former team Saturday, but he'll now likely have to have his turn in the rotation skipped completely as a result of the neck issue. With Sunday's scheduled starter Spencer Arrighetti now pushed up to toe the rubber Saturday, Houston will likely have to look outside the major-league roster for a fill-in starter Sunday. Left-hander Eric Lauer is with Triple-A Sugar Land and could be an option to be called up. It's unclear whether or not Verlander's injury will require a stint on the injured list, but for now the 41-year-old's next opportunity to return to the mound appears to be next weekend in Baltimore at the earliest.       Advice: No word yet on the severity of the neck ailment that led to Verlander being scratched from a highly-anticipated outing against his former team, but Astros manager Joe Espada told reporters they don’t believe it’s an injured list situation. Espada added that the 41-year-old veteran righty has been pitching through neck soreness for the last two or three weeks, which certainly helps explain his recent struggles. It’ll be rookie Spencer Arrighetti taking the ball in his place. There should be an additional update on his status at some point this weekend.
