    • Brady Singer goes seven scoreless to defeat Cubs
Brady Singer pitched two-hit ball for seven innings in the Royals’ 6-0 shutout of the Cubs on Friday.

Advice: It’s the second time in a week that Singer has pitched seven scoreless innings against a team based in Chicago. He’s been rather hit-or-miss of late, but this is the 13th time in 21 starts that he’s allowed one or no runs. He’ll get a chance to shut down a Chicago team for a third straight outing when he faces the White Sox on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 11:08 pm

    • Yields three runs Friday
Ortiz allowed three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks.

Advice: This ended Ortiz's stretch of five straight outings -- including four starts -- without allowing more than one run. The right-hander faded in the sixth inning, allowing a solo home run to Joc Pederson and walking Christian Walker before Carmen Mlodzinski completed the Pirates' collapse. Ortiz is now at a 2.75 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 63:24 K:BB over 78.2 innings through 27 appearances (five starts) this season. His next outing is projected to be at Houston. • Three hits in Friday's win
Gurriel went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 4-3 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Gurriel is 6-for-15 over his last four games, though he's now gone eight contests without an extra-base hit. The outfielder has at least made decent contact in July, batting .260 (19-for-73) over his last 17 contests. For the season, he's at a .266/.295/.411 slash line with 13 home runs, 56 RBI, 47 runs scored, five stolen bases, 15 doubles and one triple through 95 games. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:35 pm
    • Nabs steal Friday
Rengifo went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and one run scored in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Athletics.

Advice: Rengifo is 3-for-15 with four RBI and one steal on two attempts over four games since he returned from a wrist injury that cost him most of the month. The infielder still needs to work on his timing at the plate, but his bout of right wrist inflammation hasn't flared up again to the point of needing to miss more time, as he's started three straight games in the field. Rengifo has a .308/.352/.432 slash line with six home runs, 29 RBI, 37 runs scored and 23 steals over 73 contests this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 10:07 pm

    • Lourdes Gurriel picks up three hits vs. Pirates
Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 3-for-4 with a run scored in a win Friday against the Pirates.

Advice: Gurriel Jr. singled thrice to increase his average to .266 on the season. He came around to score after one of those pokes on a wild pitch by Carmen Mlodzinski in the sixth, and that ended up being the game-winning run. Gurriel Jr. has had an uneven 2024 campaign with an OPS of .706 over 384 at-bats along with 13 homers and five stolen bases. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:36 pm
    • Luis Ortiz doesn’t qualify for decision vs. D-Backs
Luis Ortiz didn’t pick up a decision while allowing three runs over five innings against the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Advice: Ortiz only allowed one run over his first five innings, but things went south in the sixth. He gave up a solo homer to Joc Pederson, and another run was charged to him on an RBI single by Gabriel Moreno. The line ends up disappointing, but Ortiz looked solid outside of that final frame. The 25-year-old’s ERA is now 2.75 on the season, and he’s worth streaming consideration next week against the Astros. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:36 pm

    • Picks up fourth win
Martinez (4-5) allowed one hit over two scoreless innings to earn the victory Friday against the Rays. He struck out two.

Advice: Martinez entered a tied game in the eighth and pitched two scoreless innings before the Reds took the lead in the top of the 10th and Alexis Diaz closed out the win on Friday. Martinez now has two wins in his last four appearances, and all four of his wins this season have all come in relief. The 33-year-old veteran has a 3.77 ERA in 74 innings in the swingman role for the Reds this season. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:30 pm

    • Holds Cubs scoreless
Singer (7-6) allowed two hits and two walks over seven shutout frames Friday, striking out five and earning a win over the Cubs.

Advice: Singer retired the first 11 batters he faced and was later able to work out of a few threats. In two starts since the All-Star break, he's fired 14 scoreless innings while recording 12 punchouts. He's allowed fewer than two runs in six of his last seven outings while registering a 1.76 ERA over that span. Singer now owns a strong 2.82 ERA with a 111:36 K:BB through 118 innings. His next start is projected to be on the road against the White Sox. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:12 pm

    • Devin Williams could be ready to join Brewers
Devin Williams (back) hurled a scoreless inning at Triple-A Nashville and could be ready to rejoin the Brewers’ bullpen.

Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander allowed just one hit in his inning of work during his minor league rehab assignment on Friday. He then took to Instagram after the game and posted “See you soon MKE”, indicating that he plans on joining the Brewers in the very near future. We’ll have to wait and see if he’s thrust right back into the closer’s role, or if they’ll ease him back into action while Trevor Megill continues to hold down the ninth inning gig.
