• Rehab stint delayed
LeMahieu (foot) won't begin his rehab assignment at Double-A Somerset as scheduled Friday after an MRI showed less healing than was hoped for, Pete Caldera of The Bergen Record reports.

Advice: The veteran infielder said he's "ready to go" but has yet to be cleared for game action. LeMahieu will take batting practice and go through infield drills over the next few days before being reevaluated. It's possible he's cleared for a rehab assignment at that point, but his return timetable is a bit murky in the meantime. Rotowire.com 6 minutes ago

  • DJ LeMahieu (foot) won’t start rehab assignment
DJ LeMahieu said team doctors don’t feel comfortable having him start a rehab assignment following an MRI on Thursday.

Advice: Well this sounds a bit ominous. The 35-year-old was slated to begin a rehab assignment this week, but now will stay sidelined until the team feels he’s ready for live action. LeMahieu started the season on the injured list with a fractured right foot and it looks like he’ll need more time before he’s put on the active roster. Rotoworld 11 minutes ago

  • Sits vs. lefty
Guillorme is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Texas.

Advice: The 29-year-old started the past two games at second base after Ozzie Albies (toe) was placed on the injured list, but the lefty-hitting Guillorme will sit Friday as southpaw Andrew Heaney pitches for the Rangers. David Fletcher will take over at the keystone and bat ninth. Rotowire.com 25 minutes ago

  • Returns to lineup Friday
Drury (hamstring) will be the designated hitter and bat fifth in Friday's game in Cincinnati.

Advice: Drury missed three games with tightness in his left hamstring, but he's ready to at least hit on Friday against his former team, the Reds. The 31-year-old has gotten off to a slow start at the plate for the Angels this season, putting up a .570 OPS with one home run in 16 contests. Rotowire.com 53 minutes ago

  • Homers in first minors game
Hernaiz, optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a win over Tacoma on Thursday.

Advice: Hernaiz put the first runs of the night on the board in the third inning with his shot to center, which plated Brett Harris. The 22-year-old struggled badly with big-league pitching during his 17-game stint in the majors; however, he got his 2024 minor-league tenure off in a manner akin to his 2023 body of work on the farm, when he fashioned a .319/.384/.454 slash line across 131 games between Double-A Midland and Triple-A Las Vegas. • Claimed by Cincy
The Reds claimed Soto off waivers and optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday.

Advice: The 23-year-old was designated for assignment by Baltimore earlier in the week and will now join his third team of 2024. Soto has 10 appearances at the Triple-A level this season and has a .780 OPS in 32 at-bats. Rotowire.com Today, 11:43 am

  • Reds claim Livan Soto off waivers from Orioles
Reds claimed INF Livan Soto off of waivers from the Orioles.

Advice: Soto will be on his third different team this month after he was removed from both the Angels and Orioles rosters. The 23-year-old will add infield depth for Cincinnati. Rotoworld Today, 11:37 am

  • Starts at third base
Reyes started at third base and went 0-for-4 in Thursday's 5-4 loss to Cleveland.

Advice: Reyes filled in for the injured Rafael Devers (knee) and committed a costly error that allowed one of three unearned runs to score. Reyes also couldn't get a ball out of his glove quick enough to start a 5-4-3 double, which scored another run. Per Ian Browne of MLB.com, the Red Sox are hoping to avoid having to put Devers on the injured list, which suggests a fill-in need for more than just Thursday's contest. Reyes and Bobby Dalbec are the primary candidates to play third base should Devers need an stint on the IL. Rotowire.com Today, 6:55 am

  • Makes rare start
Peterson started at shortstop and went 0-for-3 in Thursday's 5-0 loss to the Giants.

Advice: Peterson, who extended a hitless run to 18 at-bats, made just his fourth start of the season. The lack of opportunities may explain his .045 batting average. At the time of shortstop Geraldo Perdomo's knee injury earlier this month, the lefty-hitting Peterson was in position to fill a strong side of a platoon but that never materialized. Both Kevin Newman and Blaze Alexander continue to get work against right-handers. Rotowire.com Today, 5:58 am
