  • Initial imaging shows inflammation
    Soto received a preliminary diagnosis of left forearm inflammation after undergoing medical imaging Friday, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports. He's out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

    Advice: The 25-year-old was removed from Thursday's contest with left forearm discomfort, which he apparently has dealt with throughout the past week. Soto will sit at least one game and his outlook for the immediate future remains a bit murky for now, but the initial reports are an encouraging development and indicate he may have avoided a serious injury.     The Marlins recalled Edwards from Triple-A Jacksonville on Friday.

    Advice: Miami is in need of infield help with both Tim Anderson (bereavement) and Otto Lopez (paternity) away from the club for a few days. Edwards is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff in Friday's game against the Guardians. The 24-year-old got a late start to the season due to a bacterial infection in his left foot, but he's slashed .365/.411/.481 with three stolen bases in 17 games with Jacksonville.     Benson went 2-for-4 with a stolen base, two RBI and a run scored in Thursday's 8-4 win over the Cubs.

    Advice: Benson provided insurance for the Reds with a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning. It was the fourth consecutive game with a hit for Benson, who is 6-for-14 with a double, a triple, five RBI and three runs scored during that stretch.
