      Advice: The 25-year-old crushed a Grayson Rodriguez slider in the fourth inning, sending it over the fence in straightaway center field with an exit velocity of 109.2 mph. Guerrero is beginning to flash a little more power -- over his last 11 games, he has three doubles and two of his six homers on the year -- but he's been making plenty of hard contact, slashing .367/.452/.495 since the beginning of May with 16 RBI and 16 runs in 28 contests.       Verlander did not factor into the decision in Monday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals, allowing four runs on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over five innings.

      Advice: Verlander got into immediate trouble, allowing solo home runs to Alec Burleson and Nolan Gorman in the first inning. He labored through the next four, surrendering a total of eight hard-hit balls, including another homer by Gorman, and leaving with a 4-2 deficit. Verlander was coming off back-to-back nine-strikeout efforts, but he has now failed to reach six innings in four of his nine starts this season.       Andrew Abbott allowed three runs in six innings and picked up the win in the Reds’ 13-3 victory over the Rockies on Monday.

      Advice: The win was Abbott’s fourth of the season. He gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out six. Abbott now has a quality start in three of his last four starts and a win in three of his last five starts. His ERA is now 3.39 on the season, but his xFIP is significantly higher at 4.53. Abbott has a pedestrian 18 percent strikeout percentage and has benefited from an 84 percent left on base percentage that’s likely to catch up to him at some point.       Abbott (4-5) allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over six innings Monday, striking out six and earning a win over Colorado.

      Advice: Abbott was charged with three runs through three frames but settled in to produce his fifth quality start of the year. Three of those quality starts have come over his last four appearances, and he matched his season best by generating 13 whiffs Monday. He had struck out just 11 batters over his previous four outings but improved his season K:BB to 52:18 with Monday's strong performance.     • Verlander allows four runs in no-decision Monday
      Justin Verlander allowed four runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Astros’ 7-4 victory over the Cardinals on Monday.



      Advice: Verlander gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out four. He allowed three home runs and has now allowed 11 home runs in 52 innings (1.90 HR/9) this season. That’s a significant uptick from the 18 home runs he allowed in 162 innings (1.00 HR/9) last year. Also troubling is Verlander’s 23 percent ground ball percentage, which would be a career-low. While his ERA is 3.63 on the season, his xFIP is over full run higher at 4.70. Verlander has benefitted from an 86 percent left on base percentage, which has helped drive his ERA down but is unlikely to last all year. The 41-year-old right-hander is set to face the Angels on the road this weekend.

      Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 2-for-4 with a solo home run against the Orioles on Monday.

      Advice: The home run was Guerrero Jr.'s sixth of the season. He was back at first base after playing third base on Sunday. It would boost his fantasy value to add third base eligibility, but he’ll need a few more appearances at the hot corner for that. Guerrero Jr.'s average is up to .295 with an .808 OPS on the season.       The Orioles placed Mateo on the 7-day concussion injured list Monday.

      Advice: Mateo's move to the 7-day IL comes as little surprise after he entered MLB's concussion protocol when he was removed in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Rays after being inadvertently hit the back of the helmet by teammate Cedric Mullins, who was swinging in the on-deck circle alongside him. Ramon Urias came off the bench to replace Mateo, but the Orioles could turn to rookie Connor Norby -- who was called up from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move -- to step in for Mateo as their new everyday second baseman.
