Max Kepler homers, delivers walk-off win on Friday
Max Kepler went 3-for-4 with a homer and four RBI on Friday night, propelling the Twins to a walk-off 6-5 victory over the Athletics in 10 innings.
Advice: Kepler broke out of his recent funk in a major way in the sixth inning on Friday, crushing a game-tying 426-foot (105.6 mph EV) three-run shot off of Mitch Spence that evened things up at 4-4. He then came through with a walk-off RBI single off of Scott Alexander in the 10th inning that sent the Twins’ home faithful into a frenzy. With his three-hit effort, the 31-year-old outfielder is now slashing .263/.326/.433 with five homers and 27 RBI on the season. RotoworldYesterday, 8:45 pm
Sale (9-2) allowed two runs on five hits and two walks over seven innings Friday, striking out seven and earning a win over the Rays.
Advice: Sale coughed up a run before recording an out in the first inning but settled in for a strong quality start in the win. He forced 17 swinging strikes, including 12 on the slider. It was Sale's second consecutive quality start and sixth in his last seven appearances. The veteran lefty has posted a 2.60 ERA over 45 innings during that span. For the season, he owns a 2.98 ERA with a 99:13 K:BB through 13 outings. Sale's next start is lined up to be on the road against the Yankees. Rotowire.comYesterday, 7:51 pm
Chris Sale allowed two earned runs across seven innings in a 7-3 win over the Rays on Friday. He struck out seven and walked two.
Advice: Sale was his usual emotional and demonstrative self on the mound even after being handed a huge lead early and that intensity carried him to another great start. This was the fifth time in six starts Sale completed seven innings and the eighth time he’s done so already this season. He’s been one of the most valuable pitchers in baseball this season, stepping into the ace role for Atlanta without Spencer Strider. RotoworldYesterday, 7:06 pm
Thomas went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer in Friday's 8-1 win over the Marlins.
Advice: Thomas provided the big blow in the Nationals' seven-run third inning, cranking a three-run homer off Shaun Anderson, his fifth this season. The 28-year-old outfielder extended his hit streak to eight games -- he's gone 10-for-29 (.345) in that span. Overall, Thomas is slashing .231/.295/.359 with 21 RBI, 18 runs scored and 16 stolen bases through 40 games this year. Rotowire.comYesterday, 7:01 pm
CJ Abrams had two singles, a double, a walk, two RBI, and a run scored in a win over the Marlins on Friday.
Advice: Abrams started the game with a double and notched two hits in the Nationals’ seven-run third inning. He’s trended down some since a torrid first few weeks of the season but still carries a solid .257/.308/.489 slash line with 11 home runs and 10 stolen bases on the season. Lane Thomas went 2-for-5 on Friday with a home run, three RBI, and a run scored in a win over the Marlins.
Advice: Thomas has once again been a dynamo this season in the heart of the Nationals’ order. The home run was his fifth in just 40 games - a 20 homer pace - to go along with 16 stolen bases. His .231 batting average and .295 on-base percentage are a bit of a drag, but are easy to stomach with those gaudy counting numbers. RotoworldYesterday, 6:10 pm
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Gallen (hamstring) threw a 37-pitch bullpen Friday, and the right-hander is slated to throw a sim game Tuesday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Advice: Gallen threw from the mound for the second time since landing on the injured list May 31 due to a right hamstring strain. It's another step in the right direction for the 28-year-old, who before the injury registered a 3.12 ERA and 1.14 WHIP over 57.2 innings. Rotowire.comYesterday, 3:55 pm
Diamondbacks’ manager Torey Lovullo told reporters on Friday that right-hander Zac Gallen (hamstring) will pitch in a simulated game on Tuesday.
Advice: The 28-year-old hurler is slated for three innings or around 45 pitches in the session. After that, he’ll likely need another simulated game — or perhaps a minor league rehab start — before he’s ready to return to the Diamondbacks’ rotation. Gallen has been sidelined since the end of May due to a right hamstring strain. RotoworldYesterday, 3:27 pm
Romano (elbow) threw from 90 feet Friday, Kaitlyn McGrath of The Athletic reports.
Advice: Romano resumed his throwing program Monday and has already been stretched out to 90 feet. The 31-year-old has been brought along slowly since being placed on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation and it's unclear if he'll require a rehab assignment at this point. Yimi Garcia has earned three saves since Romano went down and should continue to operate as Toronto's temporary closer. Rotowire.comYesterday, 1:11 pm
