Player Notes

  • Gio Urshela has bone chips removed from elbow
Gio Urshela underwent surgery on Friday to have bone chips removed from his right elbow.

Advice: The Yankees announced that the surgery went as expected and that Urshela's anticipated recovery time will be three months, so it shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the 2021 season. It's unclear how long the issue has bothered the 29-year-old -- or if it affected his performance during the 2020 campaign. In 43 games, Urshela slashed .298/.368/.490 with six homers and 30 RBI in 174 plate appearances. Yesterday, 6:01 pm
  • Twins have interest in right-hander Joakim Soria
According to Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News, the Twins have interest in free agent right-hander Joakim Soria.

Advice: The Twins are in the market for a bullpen upgrade -- with Trevor May signing with the Mets this week -- are they're reportedly "casting a wide net" in their search. The 36-year-old hurler is one of the top right-handed relievers available on the free agent market, coming off of a season where he posted a 2.82 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 24/10 K/BB ratio over 22 1/3 innings with the Athletics. Yesterday, 4:47 pm
  • Orioles sign Conner Greene to minor league deal
Orioles signed RHP Conner Greene to a minor league contract.

Advice: The 25-year-old right-hander struggled during the 2019 season, registering a 5.13 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 95/54 K/BB ratio over 112 1/3 innings between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha for the Royals. He'll add organizational rotation depth for the Orioles. Yesterday, 3:07 pm
  • Ronald Torreyes returns to Phillies
Phillies re-signed INF Ronald Torreyes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: Torreyes spent most of 2020 at the Phillies' alternate site but also played in four games with the big club. He'll give them some utility infielder depth. Yesterday, 1:38 pm
  • Clay Holmes returns to Pirates on minors deal
Pirates re-signed RHP Clay Holmes to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Advice: The Pirates non-tendered Holmes earlier this week but have now brought him back into the fold. There figures to be a good number of similar moves around baseball in the coming days. Yesterday, 1:25 pm
