  • D'Backs agree to two-year deal with Mathis
Nick Piecoro of AZCentral Sports reports that the Diamondbacks have agreed to a two-year, $4 million contract with Jeff Mathis.

Advice: It seems like the Diamondbacks are looking to cut payroll this offseason, which prompted the non-tendering of Welington Castillo and the signing of the veteran Mathis. He's likely to share time behind the dish with Chris Herrmann and perhaps Oscar Hernandez, but is a poor bet for any type of fantasy production even in the hitter-friendly home ballpark. Mathis is a career .197/.254/.308 hitter in 2273 career plate appearances. Rotoworld.com 44 minutes ago

  • Blue Jays outright Colabello to Triple-A
Blue Jays sent 1B Chris Colabello outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Advice: The 33-year-old missed the majority of the 2016 season due to an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs and was very ineffective during his limited time at the big league level. He's no longer on the Blue Jays' 40-man roster. Rotoworld.com 59 minutes ago
  • Yankees do not tender contract to Lindgren
    Yankees non-tendered LHP Jacob Lindgren.

Advice: The 23-year-old southpaw underwent Tommy John surgery in August and is expected to miss the entire 2017 season while recovering. It's possible that the Yankees will try to retain the former first-round pick on a minor league contract. Rotoworld.com Today, 4:57 pm

  • Seth Maness non-tendered by Cardinals
    Cardinals non-tendered RHP Seth Maness.

Advice: Maness boasts a career 3.19 ERA out of the Cardinals' bullpen, but he had elbow surgery in August and could get a late start to next season. He's now a free agent. Rotoworld.com Today, 2:23 pm

  • Ian Desmond a backup CF option for Nationals
Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals are considering Adam Eaton, Dexter Fowler, Carlos Gomez and Ian Desmond as backup options for center field.

Advice: Heyman notes that the Nationals "remain focused" on a trade for Andrew McCutchen, but they are preparing backup plans in the event they're not able to work something out for the Pirates outfielder. Desmond is the most interesting name of the aforementioned bunch, of course, given that he's spent most of his career with the Nats. He played shortstop for them, but Washington appears intent on moving Trea Turner in to his natural position of shortstop and adding a center fielder. Rotoworld.com Today, 9:53 am
