  • Logan Webb makes swift work of D-backs in win
    Logan Webb fired seven shutout innings on Thursday in a win over the Diamondbacks.

    Advice: Webb retired a career-high 19 consecutive batters following back-to-back singles from Ketel Marte and Corbin Carroll, respectively, to open the contest before issuing a one-out walk to Christian Walker in the seventh inning. The 27-year-old workhorse, who finished with five strikeouts and only issued one walk, completed seven frames for the third consecutive start in this one. He’ll bring a sparkling 2.93 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 22/6 K/BB ratio across 30 2/3 innings (five starts) into another home outing on Tuesday against the Mets. Rotoworld 13 minutes ago
  • Dealing with bruised elbow
    Nelson exited Thursday's start against the Giants due to a right elbow contusion.

    Advice: Nelson took a comebacker to his arm while recording the final out of the second inning and was forced to exit the game.   • Underwhelming rehab appearance
    Buehler (elbow) allowed two runs on four hits and four walks while striking out three across 2.2 innings in a rehab outing with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, Eric Stephen of SBNation.com reports.

    Advice: Buehler was expected to throw between 80 and 90 pitches, though his struggles with control limited the length of his outing. He particularly struggled with his offspeed and breaking pitches, as he threw 15 combined curveballs and sliders -- only two of which went for strikes. Though the outing wasn't positive, it could come as some consolation that this was Buehler's first time pitching with an automated strike zone, per the Director of Communications Oklahoma City, Alex Freedman. It's possible that this was Buehler's final rehab outing before rejoining the big-league rotation, but the Dodgers are expected to assess the situation before making a final decision.   • Max Scherzer could make ’24 debut in early May
    The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reports Max Scherzer (back) could return in early May.

    Advice: Scherzer is scheduled to face hitters again on Friday in a 40-pitch live batting practice session and could progress to a minor league rehab assignment shortly afterwards. The 39-year-old veteran righty has made a rapid recovery from offseason back surgery, which was originally expected to keep him on the shelf until late June. It might be too optimistic to expect him to make his season debut in early May, but it can’t be completely ruled out at this juncture.   • Ramps up to 65 pitches
    Skenes allowed one hit and two walks while striking out eight across 3.1 scoreless innings in a start with Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

    Advice: Skenes has yet to record more than 10 outs in a start this season, but he did increase his pitch count to 65. He was a bit wild with only 37 of his pitches finding the zone, though he generated 11 whiffs on four fastballs, three sliders and three changeups.   • Draws another start
    Nastrini is scheduled to start Sunday's game in Philadelphia.

    Advice: The rookie right-hander will receive another turn through the White Sox rotation after he acquitted himself well in his MLB debut Monday, striking out five and allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks over five innings in a no-decision against the Royals. Though Nastrini was able to pound the zone effectively Monday, fantasy managers may want to tread cautiously with him, given the control issues he's displayed for much of his minor-league career.   • Picks up first win
    Carrasco (1-1) earned the win Thursday against the Red Sox, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out five.

    Advice: Carrasco's gotten off to a solid start in his second stint with Cleveland -- the veteran right-hander hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his first four starts. He lowered his ERA to 3.44 with a 1.53 WHIP and 16:12 K:BB across 18.1 innings after struggling to a 6.80 ERA in 20 starts with the Mets last season. While Carrasco isn't likely to warrant fantasy consideration at this stage in his career, he's likely locked in as the Guardians' fifth starter with Shane Bieber (elbow) out for the year.   • Dealing with cranky shoulder
    Cobb (hip) is dealing with mild shoulder irritation, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

    Advice: Cobb is primarily recovering from left hip surgery that occurred shortly after the end of the 2023 season. During the ramp up process, he's dealt with both elbow and shoulder issues that have slowed his progress.   • Short outing vs. Rangers
    Maeda did not factor into the decision Thursday against the Rangers, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and two walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out two.

    Advice: It was a tough day for Maeda against a potent Texas offense -- the right-hander gave up five runs on three homers before departing in the third inning. Maeda's ERA is up to 7.64 while allowing a league-most seven home runs across his first four starts (17,2 innings).
