  • Yandy Díaz collects RBI in eighth straight game
    Yandy Díaz went 2-for-4 with an RBI on Wednesday in the Rays’ loss to the Mariners.

    Advice: Díaz kicked off the scoring with a run-scoring single off Mariners starter George Kirby in the third inning, marking his eighth consecutive contest with an RBI since June 19.   • Homers, drives in four
    Marsh went 4-for-4 with a two-run home run, and four RBI in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Tigers.

    Advice: Marsh snapped a career-long home run drought in a big way on Wednesday. It was his first home run since April 26th, snapping a streak of 36 games without a blast. Marsh became the first Phillies player to go 4-for-4 or better with four RBI since Maikel Franco in 2016. The 26-year-old is hitting .269/.345/.425 with seven home runs and 31 RBI.   • Trent Thornton bails out Andrés Muñoz against Rays
    Trent Thornton tossed a perfect ninth inning on Wednesday against the Rays to record his first career save.

    Advice: Thornton was brought on to guard a four-run lead with the bases loaded in the final frame after Andrés Muñoz issued a pair of walks and also hit a batter to open the ninth inning. It technically qualified as a save situation since the tying run was in the on-deck circle.   • George Kirby flummoxes Rays over six frames in win
    George Kirby struck out seven and allowed one run over six innings on Wednesday in a win over the Rays.

    Advice: Kirby coughed up an early run-scoring single to Yandy Díaz, but managed to keep Tampa Bay’s lineup quiet from the third inning onwards to net his seventh win of the season. He induced 13 swinging strikes, including six on his four-seam fastball, and finished with a pedestrian 28 percent CSW. Of course, he also didn’t hand out a free pass in this one. It wasn’t his most dominant effort of the season, but was more than enough to lead Seattle to a much-needed win. The 26-year-old righty has allowed two earned runs or fewer in six consecutive starts dating back to May 29.   • Ryan Pepiot strikes out eight on Wednesday vs. Mariners
    Ryan Pepiot recorded eight strikeouts and allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Mariners.

    Advice: Pepiot carried a shutout into the sixth inning before being lifted from the contest at 88 pitches (54 strikes) after issuing a one-out walk to J.P. Crawford. He wound up being charged with that run when reliever Shawn Armstrong served up a three-run homer to Cal Raleigh later in the frame. The -year-old righty generated 15 swinging strikes, including nine on his four-seam fastball alone, and finished with a respectable 29 percent CSW. It was a nice effort from Pepiot considering he failed to complete five frames in each of his previous two outings.   • Connor Wong (paternity) expected back on Friday
    Red Sox’ manager Alex Cora said Wednesday that Connor Wong is expected to return from the paternity list on Friday.

    Advice: The hard-hitting backstop missed the first half of the week to attend the birth of his child, but expect him to be right back behind the dish for Friday’s series opener against the Padres.   • Takes seat after poor game Tuesday
    Torres is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Mets.

    Advice: For the second game in a row, Torres was held hitless Tuesday in the Yankees' 9-7 loss, leaving him in a 2-for-29 slump at the dish over his last nine games. To make matters worse, Torres committed an error at second base and also didn't run out a grounder at full speed in the eighth inning, with the latter play not escaping manager Aaron Boone's attention, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Boone indicated that Torres is doing OK physically, but the skipper thought a day on the bench could be beneficial for the 27-year-old while he's in the midst of a rough patch.   • Denied two-start week
    Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that Bello won't start Sunday's game against the Padres as previously planned and will instead make his next start Wednesday in Miami, Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com reports.

    Advice: Heading into the week, Bello had been lined up for two starts, but the Red Sox are opting to give him more time off before his next turn after he was blasted for seven earned runs on five hits and three walks over 2.1 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays. According to Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald, Cora clarified that Bello isn't dealing with any sort of physical issue, and the right-hander's extra time off between starts is designed to help him better identify the source of the control problems that have become a recurring concern.     Mitchell (finger) was removed from Wednesday's rehab game with Triple-A Nashville with an apparent left hamstring injury, Jack Stern of Brewer Fanatic reports.
