  • Héctor Neris collects save for Cubs on Wednesday
Héctor Neris allowed one run in the ninth inning on Wednesday against the Astros, but still managed to hang on for his second save of the season.

Advice: It’s notable that Neris got the call once again to guard a two-run lead in the final frame after Adbert Alzolay pitched in the sixth inning and Mark Leiter Jr. worked a scoreless eighth inning. He gave up a leadoff homer to former teammate Jose Altuve, but managed to set down Alex Bregman, Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker to preserve the victory. The 34-year-old veteran righty has plenty of closing experience, but he hasn’t been a full-time stopper since the 2019 campaign when he notched 28 saves for the Phillies. He looks like the add for fantasy managers at the moment in Chicago, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Leiter vulture the occasional save. Rotoworld 38 minutes ago
  • Jameson Taillon stifles Astros to net second win
Jameson Taillon was charged with two runs (one earned) over 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a win over the Astros.

Advice: Taillon cobbled together his second straight strong performance since returning from a season-opening stint on the injured list, limiting Houston’s formidable lineup to just seven hits in this one. He struck out four and only issued two walks. He’ll bring a sparkling 1.69 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 8/2 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings (two starts) into a road matchup on Monday against the Mets at Citi Field. Rotoworld 39 minutes ago
  • First loss of season
Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss Wednesday against Kansas City, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out two.

Advice: Rodriguez allowed more than one run for the first time in three starts this season and set a season low in strikeouts after tallying six and seven K's in his first two starts, respectively. While Rodriguez is expected to be pushed into a bullpen role upon the return of Alek Manoah (shoulder), he's been a serviceable fill-in rotation piece, owning a 3.86 ERA and a 15:5 K:BB over 11.2 innings. • Spencer Arrighetti hit hard again in loss to Cubs
Spencer Arrighetti surrendered with four runs over 3 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Cubs.

Advice: Arrighetti was tagged for four runs, including a three-run homer by Dansby Swanson, in a calamitous opening frame, which was enough to saddle him with a loss. The 24-year-old top pitching prospect has been hit extremely hard in three starts to open his big-league career and holds a stratopsheric 10.97 ERA, 2.34 WHIP and 15/7 K/BB ratio across 10 2/3 innings. He’s most likely headed back to Triple-A Sugar Land once ace Framber Valdez returns from the injured list this weekend in Mexico City. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
  • Max Scherzer gives up three runs in rehab start
Max Scherzer looked a bit rusty in his first minor league rehab start at Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits over 2 1/3 innings of work.

Advice: The 39-year-old right-hander struck out four batters in the contest and didn’t issue a base on balls. Two of the three runs scored against him came on solo home runs — off the bats of Jason Martin and Cole Tucker. Scherzer threw a total of 52 pitches in the ballgame, 32 of those for strikes. All that really matters is that he made it through the start healthy. He’s going to need at least one additional rehab start, but if things go well in that outing he could then be cleared to join the Rangers’ rotation in early May. Rotoworld 57 minutes ago
  • Builds up to 79 pitches
Means (forearm) struck out five and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and one walk over 4.1 innings in a rehab start Tuesday for Triple-A Norfolk.

Advice: Means built up to 79 pitches in the rehab start, his fifth overall with Norfolk. The 31-year-old lefty hasn't performed as well as the Orioles had hoped during the rehab assignment -- he holds a 13.89 ERA, 2.41 WHIP and 14:6 K:BB in 11.2 innings -- but with Wednesday's outing arguably being Means' best yet, he could be cleared to return from the 15-day injured list soon. According to Andy Kostka of TheBaltimoreBanner.com, the Orioles haven't ruled out the possibility of Means returning from the IL to start Sunday versus the Athletics, though the club may prefer to have the red-hot Albert Suarez (11.1 scoreless innings through two starts) make another turn through the rotation. • Raisel Iglesias allows two runs in rare meltdown
Raisel Iglesias was charged with two runs (one earned) in the ninth inning on Wednesday and was saddled with a blown save against the Marlins.

Advice: Iglesias was called upon to guard a two-run lead and was unable to preserve the victory after three straight singles and a fielding error by first baseman Matt Olson allowed a pair of runs to cross the plate. The veteran stopper deserves credit for getting the contest to extra innings by retiring ensuing batters Jesús Sánchez, Tim Anderson and Nick Gordon to stand the potential go-ahead run at third base. It was his first blown save in eight opportunities this season. Rotoworld 58 minutes ago
  • Reynaldo López twirls seven-inning gem vs. Fish
Reynaldo López allowed one run over seven innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.

Advice: López authored yet another dominant performance, this time against a floundering Marlins lineup, piling up six strikeouts and only allowing five baserunners over seven frames. Yet, he was forced to settle for a no-decision after Atlanta’s bullpen coughed up a two-run lead in the ninth inning. The 30-year-old converted reliever has been a revelation this season, allowing one earned run or fewer and completing six frames in four consecutive starts to kick off his Braves debut. He’ll bring a microscopic 0.72 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 24/8 K/BB ratio across 25 innings (four starts) into a road tilt on Tuesday against the Mariners in Seattle. Rotoworld Today, 7:30 pm
  • Sixto Sánchez struggles in first start since 2020
Sixto Sánchez was charged with three runs over 2 2/3 innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Braves.

Advice: Sánchez allowed five hits, struck out three and also issued one walk. He also hit one batter and balked in a run during an eventful opening frame where he attempted a pickoff move to a vacant second base. It was his first start since the 2020 postseason and it’s a bit unclear whether the Marlins are going to hand him the ball again as a traditional starter or shift him back to a bullpen role. If he’s given another turn in Miami’s injury-depleted rotation, he’ll take the ball on Tuesday against the Rockies at loan Depot park. Rotoworld Today, 7:29 pm
