  • Optioned to Sacramento
The Giants optioned Schmitt to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Schmitt will lose his spot on the big-league roster with Jorge Soler (shoulder) returning from the injured list Friday. Schmitt went just 3-for-22 and drove in one RBI during his brief stint in the majors, though he may return to San Francisco if the Giants need to rely on their organizational infield depth again later this season. • Receives injection in back
Adrianza received an injection in his back Thursday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The injection was issued to relieve back spasms that caused Adrianza to land on the 10-day injured list May 9. Before being placed on the IL, Adrianza was 5-for-26 with one home run and two RBI in eight games. Rotowire.com Friday, 3:07 pm
  • Ceddanne Rafaela gets a breather on Friday night
Ceddanne Rafaela is not in the Red Sox’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Cardinals in St. Louis.

Advice: It looks to be just a routine day of rest for the versatile 23-year-old. David Hamilton will start in his place at shortstop and will bat ninth against veteran right-hander Kyle Gibson on Friday evening. Rotoworld Friday, 2:23 pm
  • White Sox option Braden Shewmake to Triple-A
White Sox optioned INF Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Charlotte.

Advice: With Corey Julks joining the active roster on Friday, the White Sox needed to clear a spot for him and it looks like Shewmake was the odd-man out this time around. The speedy 26-year-old infielder hit just .125/.134/.203 with a homer, four RBI and five stolen bases in 67 plate appearances at the big league level. Rotoworld Friday, 2:13 pm

  • Has clubhouse locker, not with team
Crawford (oblique/hand) didn't travel with the team to Baltimore but has a locker in the Mariners' clubhouse, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The veteran shortstop was hit by a pitch on the hand during a rehab game Wednesday, and he's experienced some swelling and soreness. The fact that Crawford has a locker indicates he might return from the injured list this weekend. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:51 pm
  • Gets break Friday
Caballero is not in the lineup for Friday's matchup against the Blue Jays, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: Caballero has started in the majority of games for Tampa Bay at shortstop this season, but he will get a break as the Rays kick off their series with Toronto. It's the 27-year-old's sixth absences in 46 this season, and he's slashing .252/.309/.360 with 17 stolen bases and 13 RBI. Amed Rosario will get the start in place of Caballero at shortstop and against the Blue Jays. Rotowire.com Friday, 1:17 pm
  • Swipes second bag
Schuemann went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Astros.

Advice: Schuemann singled in his first at-bat before swiping his second bag of the season, though he would be left stranded as Oakland failed to generate any offense against a dominant Cristian Javier. The second baseman has now hit safely in five of his last six games, going 6-for-20 (.300) over that stretch with a homer, a double and four RBI. The stolen base was Schuemann's first since April 20 against the Guardians. Rotowire.com Friday, 7:08 am

  • Electrifying in win
De La Cruz went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI, three runs scored and four stolen bases in Thursday's win over the Dodgers while also drawing a walk.

Advice: De La Cruz was a force to be reckoned with, reaching base five times and swiping at least one bag following each of his first three plate appearances. Those steals would lead to him scoring three runs, marking the third time this season he's accomplished that feat. It was also the star shortstop's first four-hit game on the campaign and his third game with three or more hits. De La Cruz has a whopping 30 stolen bases on the season following his first four-steal performance, sitting 13 ahead of the next closest player, Tampa Bay's Jose Caballero. • Keeps raking with homer
Volpe went 2-for-5 with a solo home run during Thursday's 5-0 win over the Twins.

Advice: Volpe extended his hit streak to nine games with a first-inning solo home run off Joe Ryan. During that stretch, Volpe has gone yard three times with 10 total RBI while logging multiple hits in four contests. After an up-and-down rookie campaign, Volpe owns a .273/.348/.432 slash line with six homers and nine stolen bases through 199 plate appearances in 2024. Rotowire.com Thursday, 7:01 pm
