  • Romine goes 2-for-2 with a run scored
Andrew Romine went 2-for-2 and scored a run as his team got blown out by the Royals on Wednesday.

Advice: He didn't start the game but came on to pinch-hit for Miguel Cabrera in the seventh inning with the score already 13-1. He reached on an infield single in that at-bat and later scored on a double-play ball hit by Alex Avila. Romine singled again in the ninth inning but was left stranded. The utility infielder has gotten quite a bit of playing time for a backup, slashing .228/.293/.355 with four home runs, 18 RBI and 33 runs in 217 plate appearances. Today, 9:56 pm

  • Addison Russell homers as Cubs top White Sox
Addison Russell swatted his 10th home run of the season as the Cubs topped the White Sox on Wednesday night.

Advice: Russell finished the evening 2-for-5. His solo shot in the ninth inning increased the Cubs' advantage to 8-3. For the season, he's hitting .241/.306/.425 with 10 long balls and 35 RBI. Today, 9:26 pm
  • DeJong goes deep again in Cardinals victory
Paul DeJong clobbered his 14th home run of the season on Wednesday, powering the Cardinals to a 10-5 victory over the Rockies.

Advice: His two-run blast off of Jeff Hoffman got the Rockies on the board in the first inning. He finished the night 1-for-5 and is now hitting .290/.303/.590 with 14 homers and 31 RBI in what's shaping up to be a very impressive rookie campaign. Today, 8:57 pm

  • Braves send Dansby Swanson to minors
Braves optioned SS Dansby Swanson to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Advice: Swanson has been unable to find any sort of a sustained groove this season. Prior to his demotion, he was hitting just .213/.287/.312 with six homers and 35 RBI over the course of 324 at-bats. Johan Camargo will likely see the bulk of at-bats in his place. It is not known at this juncture how long Swanson might be spending in the minors. Today, 8:24 pm

  • Semien whacks two-run bomb vs Blue Jays
Marcus Semien cranked a two-run home run in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: His fifth-inning johnson off starter Marco Estrada stood as the only scoring in the ballgame until the bottom of the ninth when closer Santiago Casilla came unglued to blow the game. The homer was Semien's only hit of the ballgame, although he did draw a walk. He owns a lowly .208 batting average with three homers, 10 RBI and seven stolen bases in 27 games. He missed three months of the season with a fractured wrist. Today, 7:34 pm
  • Alex Bregman (hamstring) out of lineup Wed.
Alex Bregman (hamstring) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: Bregman was lifted from action on Tuesday due to discomfort in his right hamstring. He is being listed as day-to-day. Yulieski Gurriel will play third in his place on Wednesday and is hitting fourth. Today, 1:08 pm
  • Cozart (quad) out of Reds' lineup Wednesday
Zack Cozart (quad) is out of the Reds' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Yankees.

Advice: Cozart aggravated his lingering left quad injury while running the bases on Tuesday night and could be looking at another extended absence. Jose Peraza will start at shortstop and bat ninth for the Reds on Wednesday afternoon at Yankee Stadium. Today, 7:36 am
  • Dilson Herrera undergoes shoulder surgery
Dilson Herrera underwent surgery to remove bone spurs from his right shoulder.

Advice: That'll be a wrap for his 2017 season. Herrera didn't make a single appearance in the majors this year and he registered an underwhelming .264/.312/.397 batting line over 68 games for Triple-A Louisville. The former top-100 prospect will try to get his career back on track in 2018. Today, 6:59 am

  • Chris Taylor continues to swing a hot bat
Chris Taylor picked up a pair of doubles with three RBI in Tuesday's victory against Minnesota.

Advice: Taylor has been on fire, posting four straight multi-hit games, while collecting two or more hits across nine of his past 11 outings. He is hitting an incredible .523 (23-for-44) with five doubles, three triples and two homers to increase his average from .285 to .321 just since July 9. Today, 1:07 am

  • Eduardo Escobar drives in another run
Eduardo Escobar finished 1-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's game in San Diego.

Advice: While it isn't much, he has posted four RBI over the past six outings. That's newsworthy because he had managed just four RBI in a 23-game span from June 17-July 16. Slowly but surely he is coming alive at the plate again. Today, 12:54 am
  • Chris Owings snaps hitless drought
Chris Owings finished 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Tuesday's game against the Braves.

Advice: Owings delivered an RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap an ugly 23 at-bat hitless skid. It was just his second RBI over the past 17 games, as he has been ice-cold in the blazing hot desert. Perhaps the extra-base hit and RBI will give him a little confidence heading into Wednesday's homestand finale. Yesterday, 11:23 pm

  • Red Sox announce trade for Eduardo Nunez
Red Sox acquired INF/OF Eduardo Nunez from the Giants for RHP Shaun Anderson and RHP Gregory Santos.

Advice: Nunez had a double, two RBI, and two runs scored for the Giants on Tuesday night against the Pirates before getting lifted in the bottom of the fifth inning. Shortly thereafter, FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal broke word of the trade to Boston. Nunez has been hitting well lately and can play a variety of positions for the Red Sox, but look for top prospect Rafael Devers to continue getting most of the starts at third base. Nunez, a 30-year-old impending free agent, will work in more of a utility role. Yesterday, 10:42 pm

  • Story felt tightness in calf on Tuesday night
Trevor Story said he felt tightness in his left calf during Tuesday's loss to the Cardinals.

Advice: Story didn't really show it, belting a game-tying solo homer in the top of the eighth inning and making a couple nice defensive plays at shortstop. He could get the day off Wednesday. Yesterday, 9:36 pm
  • Marwin Gonzalez gets two hits, steals base
Marwin Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored Tuesday in Philadelphia.

Advice: Gonzalez had a pair of singles on the night, with one of them plating a run in the Astros' four-run sixth inning. He also stole his fifth base of the season. Gonzalez will be the team's primary shortstop while Carlos Correa (thumb) is on the shelf. Yesterday, 7:15 pm

  • Didi Gregorius smacks 15th home run
Didi Gregorius smacked a solo homer and drove in a couple runs in Tuesday's win over the Reds.

Advice: Gregorius had a sac fly in the fourth inning and padded the Yankees' lead with a solo home run in the eighth. He also added a single. The longball was his 15th of the season, and he has three dingers over his last two games. Yesterday, 6:56 pm
  • Giants option Orlando Calixte to Triple-A
Giants optioned OF/INF Orlando Calixte to Triple-A Sacramento.

Advice: The 25-year-old utilityman has batted just .172/.242/.207 in 33 plate appearances this season at the major league level. Chris Stratton will fill his roster spot. Yesterday, 3:38 pm

  • Bogaerts (illness) returns to Red Sox lineup
Xander Bogaerts (illness) is back in the Red Sox lineup Tuesday night against the Mariners.

Advice: Bogaerts was a late scratch Monday after coming down with an illness, but he will start at shortstop and hit sixth Tuesday versus Seattle right-hander Felix Hernandez. Yesterday, 3:11 pm
  • Trea Turner (wrist) fielded grounders Tuesday
Trea Turner (wrist) took grounders on Tuesday afternoon at Nationals Park.

Advice: That's a strong indication that Turner's checkup X-ray on Tuesday showed significant healing, though the star shortstop still hasn't been cleared to throw. He's been out for the last month with a fractured right wrist and there is no timetable yet for his return to Washington's active roster. The target for now is probably mid-August. Yesterday, 1:58 pm

  • Jedd Gyorko out of STL lineup Tuesday
Jedd Gyorko is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup on Tuesday night.

Advice: Greg Garcia will start at third base and bat eighth versus Rockies right-hander Jon Gray. This appears to be a routine breather for Gyorko, who's fallen into a bit of a slump since the All-Star break. Yesterday, 1:23 pm

  • Jean Segura reaches base three times in win
Jean Segura finished 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a hit by pitch in Monday's victory against the visiting Red Sox.

Advice: Segura was clipped on the foot on the HBP but he was fine and able to remain in the game. In fact, the Red Sox didn't feel he was hit by the offering from Eduardo Rodriguez, and they challenged the ruling to no avail. The double was Segura's first hit in four games, snapping 15 at-bats hitless skid. Yesterday, 12:43 am
