  • Cubs add outfielder Mark Zagunis to roster
Cubs purchased the contract of OF Mark Zagunis from Triple-A Iowa.

Advice: Zagunis will provide the Cubs with much-needed outfield depth with Jason Heyward landing on the disabled list Thursday due to a laceration on his hand and Kyle Schwarber getting shipped out to the minor leagues. Zagunis, 24, was batting .249/.399/.474 with 11 home runs and 35 RBI in 65 games this season with Iowa. He'll be making his major league debut. 36 minutes ago

  • Dilson Herrera in concussion protocol
Dilson Herrera is in concussion protocol after a collision with a teammate Wednesday at Triple-A Louisville.

Advice: That doesn't necessarily mean he has a concussion, but the 23-year-old infielder will probably get some extended rest anyway. Herrera has batted just .248/.301/.383 in 230 plate appearances this season at the Triple-A level. Today, 7:15 am

  • Fowler (quad) out of Cardinals' lineup Thurs.
Dexter Fowler (quad) is out of the Cardinals' lineup Thursday afternoon against the Phillies.

Advice: Fowler departed Wednesday night's comeback win over the Phillies after experiencing tightness in his left quad in the top of the 10th inning. He's considered day-to-day for now. Tommy Pham will start in center field for the Cardinals in Thursday's series finale at Citizens Bank Park. Today, 6:43 am
  • Cano puts Seattle ahead with clutch double
Robinson Cano ripped a go-ahead double Wednesday in the Mariners’ dramatic win over the Tigers.

Advice: With two outs in the seventh and runners on first and second, Cano broke a 4-4 tie by shooting a double into the gap in right center field. Jean Segura and Ben Gamel scored to give Seattle a 6-4 lead. The clutch double was Cano’s only hit of the night. The 34-year-old owns a .281 average with 11 homers and 42 RBI this season. Yesterday, 11:56 pm
  • Haniger swats game-tying homer Wednesday
Mitch Haniger homered in Wednesday’s come-from-behind win over the Tigers.

Advice: Haniger tied the game with a solo shot off Shane Greene in the seventh and singled an inning later for his second hit of the night. The Mariners would end up winning their fourth straight to even their record at 37-37. Haniger sports an impressive .319 average over 119 at-bats this year. Yesterday, 11:55 pm
  • Cruz drives in three as M's come from behind
Nelson Cruz plated three runs Wednesday in the Mariners’ comeback win over the Tigers.

Advice: Seattle didn’t have its first base-runner until the sixth inning, but that didn’t stop the Mariners from stealing a 7-5 victory. Cruz was a seminal figure in Seattle’s comeback, narrowing the gap to 4-3 with a two-run double in the sixth before giving the Mariners an insurance run with an RBI single in the seventh. A recent MRI showed a minor tear in his right calf, but that hasn’t done much to slow Cruz, who leads the American League with 58 RBI. Yesterday, 11:53 pm
  • Cody Bellinger doubles in win over Mets
Cody Bellinger doubled Wednesday in the Dodgers’ win over the Mets.

Advice: Another day, another extra-base hit for Bellinger. Everything the rookie touches right now turns to gold. He’s hit a ridiculous .372 with nine homers and 17 RBI over his last 10 games. Yesterday, 11:08 pm
  • Granderson drives in both Mets run Wednesday
Curtis Granderson paced the Mets with three hits in Wednesday’s loss to the Dodgers.

Advice: Granderson greeted the Dodgers by crushing a solo blast off left-hander Rich Hill in the game’s first at-bat. He also singled in the third before capping his night with an RBI double in the ninth inning to finish a triple shy of the cycle. Wednesday was only Granderson’s second three-hit game of 2017. For the season he’s batting just .220 with eight homers, 20 RBI and three steals. Yesterday, 11:07 pm
  • Correa belts 14th homer in Wednesday's win
Carlos Correa slugged his 14th home run of the season Wednesday in the Astros’ 5-1 victory over the Athletics.

Advice: Correa’s ninth-inning solo blast landed just out of the reach of center fielder Jaycob Brugman. He also singled to center field in the sixth. The 22-year-old has hit a robust .370 over his last seven games. Yesterday, 10:25 pm
  • Yonder Alonso doubles in loss to Houston
Yonder Alonso doubled in Wednesday’s loss to the Astros.

Advice: The double was his 13th of the year and one of just three hits for Oakland. The former seventh overall pick endured some lean years early in his career but he’s been sensational in 2017, slashing a phenomenal .300/.394/.620 with 17 homers and 37 RBI. There’s been talk of him signing a long-term extension, which is almost unheard for the famously frugal A’s. Yesterday, 10:23 pm

Shin-Soo Choo went 2-for-3 with a two-run dinger and two walks in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

  • Gallo goes 3-for-4 with a bomb vs Blue Jays
Joey Gallo went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and three runs scored in a loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Advice: Gallo is known for his prodigious power but his home run today was actually of the inside-the-park variety. He hit the ball the opposite way and the left fielder crashed into the wall trying to catch it. Gallo circled the bases and glided home without a throw before the shortstop could run out and retrieve the ball. He also doubled twice in the ballgame. The multi-hit night enabled him to boost his batting average above the Mendoza line. He is batting .201/.298/.522 with 19 home runs and 39 RBI on the season. Yesterday, 10:12 pm
  • Frazier goes 3-for-5 with two runs scored Wed
Adam Frazier went 3-for-5 and scored two runs in a loss to the Brewers on Wednesday.

Advice: He doubled and scored in both the third and fifth innings. He has been a productive starter in the absence of the suspended Starling Marte. Frazier holds a .289/.365/.401 slash line with three homers, 29 runs and 25 RBI in 211 plate appearances. He has chipped in five steals and has been caught four times. Yesterday, 9:36 pm

Advice: He reached five times, walking once and scoring on four occasions. All four of his hits were singles. Peralta has had an incredible month so far, batting .390 over 59 June at-bats. His .332 average this year ranks fourth in the National League behind Ryan Zimmerman, Daniel Murphy and Buster Posey. Yesterday, 9:20 pm
  • Jake Lamb gets busy in win over Rockies
Jake Lamb notched two hits Wednesday in the Diamondbacks’ 16-5 rout of the Rockies.

Advice: MLB’s RBI leader was at it again Wednesday night at Coors Field. Lamb collected the Diamondbacks’ first hit of the night by doubling to lead off the second inning. He doubled again in the fourth, plating David Peralta and Paul Goldschmidt as part of a 10-run inning for the D’Backs. Lamb finished the night with three strikeouts but those were easily outweighed by his successes. The 26-year-old has enjoyed a breakout season, batting .287 with 16 homers and 61 RBI. Yesterday, 9:16 pm
  • Drury nets career-high 6 RBI on Wednesday
Brandon Drury buried the Rockies on Wednesday night, chipping in with four hits and a career-high six RBI in Arizona’s 16-5 victory at Coors Field.

Advice: The floodgates opened for Arizona during a 10-run fourth inning and Drury played a big role in the onslaught with two hits in the frame. He plated a pair of runs on a one-out double before dropping an RBI single to center later in the inning. Drury also contributed a two-run single in the sixth and another two-run single in the ninth. Through 64 games, Drury is slashing an impressive .304/.348/.500 with eight homers and 36 RBI. Yesterday, 9:15 pm
