Wilyer Abreu goes 3-for-4, hits first homer
Wilyer Abreu went 3-for-5 with a homer and a double against the Pirates in Friday’s win.
Advice: The double just missed being a second homer. Abreu had an ugly spring with a chance to win a starting job and then opened the regular season 2-for-18 with nine strikeouts, something that could have led to an early demotion. However, he’s 8-for-25 with five extra-base hits, four walks and four steals in his last eight games, raising his season OPS to .722. If he keeps hitting, he could be an everyday guy, especially now that Ceddanne Rafaela is needed in the infield.
