Commish Notes

  • Gentlemen: Thanks to everyone for being so active all year. Our Couch Managers All-Star league is one of the best in the business. Maybe that's because it was founded by a bunch of guys who were mock-drafting at www.couchmanagers.com in December three years ago. I guess by definition that means you have some fanatics involved.

The money winners this year are as follows:
1st Place: Milwaukee Braves - Rich Justmann $100
2nd Place: the Chum - Steve Smith $50
    3rd Place: Beerguts - Andy Horovitz $30
Most points gained in the 2nd half: Slammin Sammies - Mike Smith $20

We had 10 managers put up the $20 and thus were eligible for the prizes. Total purse of $200.

BTW, I must say I was impressed when I checked the points gained in the second half. Slammin gained a whopping 24.5 points. Well done.

Steve, Andy and Mike: Please let me know how you would like to get paid. I can do PayPal or mail you a check. Either way is fine.

Regarding keepers for next year, we will each have 10 keepers. You can keep any combination of players you would like.

The draft order will start with the 14th place finisher and be the usual serpentine format.

You are free to trade at will over the winter. If you consummate a trade, please send me an E-Mail with confirmation from both managers and the deal is done.

    Have a great off-season.

  • Let's all give a hearty welcome to our new owner! Bret Livingston has graciously agreed to take over Venture Cap Vulture. The team had not been active - no moves at all - in over two months. My bad. I hadn't noticed until a couple weeks ago. Tried contacting the manager but no reply.

Welcome aboard, Bret. it's a great bunch of guys and I know you will contribute big time - as demonstrated by your flurry of moves. Good job.

  • Gentlemen, Big O had asked about whether the prize money should be awarded to everyone in the league or whether it should be available to only those who have paid the $20 fee. Since the fee was optional, I don't have a strong feeling either way.

I have posted a poll at our blogspot --- http://couch-managers.blogspot.com/

Please vote. We will go with the majority or, failing that, the plurality.

  • Gentlemen, great season so far. We have received a total of $180 in donations this year. Thanks. A very nice total for an optional payment.

Here is how the money will be divided up:
    1st Place $90
    2nd Place $50
    3rd Place $20
Largest 2nd Half Points Improvement $20

The 2nd half points improvement is calculated from July 14th. The standings at that time were:
    Giant Moa 103.5
    Milwaukee Braves 101
    Beerguts 97.5
    Planet 10 94.5
    Stangnut 93
    chatas 90
    the Chum 89.5
    Slammin Sammies 69.5
    Floriduh 63
    Venture Cap Vulture 60
    Waxahachie Mudmules 52
    CAVEMAN CLUBBERS 49.5
    Old Schoolers 47.5
    Plumb Snugglers 39.5

Right now Slammin Sammies is leading the 2nd half improvement with a 13 point gain.

Again, great year so far. Looking forward to a strong league finish.

  • Hey guys. I'm finishing up on some of the payments. Once we've determined who's going to pay (since it's not officially required this year), I can give the exact payout amounts.

What I'm thinking is to have payouts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place as well as a payout for the most points gained in the second half.

I took a snapshot of the standings yesterday so whoever gains the most points from July 15th forward will have some money coming.

Sound good to everyone? If you haven't paid yet, please send it to my PayPal account or let me know if you do not intend to pay this year. Hopefully we'll have 100% participation. Thanks.

  • Great first half guys. Tons of activity and stiff competition. I didn't have time for my mid-season write-up this year. Just know that this is a great league with excellent managers. Have a great second half.

  • Hey Guys. Great season so far. Excellent participation by all the managers. Ivar (Planet 10) seems determined to humble us all but there's a lot of runway left.

I wish your teams good health and prosperity.

  • Hi Folks. I heard back from Yahoo. Here's the situation.

They are able to handle keepers --- but only for players who were on your team at the end of last year. THERE IS NO CAPABILITY TO MOVE PLAYERS FROM ONE TEAM TO ANOTHER BEFORE THE DRAFT. THEREFORE, WE CANNOT USE THE NEW KEEPER SYSTEM SINCE IT WILL NOT REFLECT OFF-SEASON TRADES.

What that means: We will go back to the old fashioned way. Please post your keepers here on the league message board no later than THURSDAY, MARCH 8th, at 9:00PM Eastern. If you have made an off-season trade, be sure to put the new player on your keeper list. I will assign him to your team.

As a reminder, each team keeps 6 players. The players can be from any position.

  • Gentlemen: It looks like Yahoo is 'almost there' with its keeper system. It allows each of you to select your keepers BUT it does not appear to have a way to recognize off-season trades. (Yes, I'm serious!) So any team that made a trade cannot properly select its keepers with the current system.

If that turns out to be the case, we'll have to go back to the old fashioned way of managing keepers. That would mean having each of you post your keepers here on the website. Will let you know but, for now, that appears to be the case.

  • Gentlemen, welcome to our FOURTH annual summer classic. As previously announced, we will have 6 keepers this year. I believe you are now able to select them yourselves up until the due date. I will be posting the suggested 2012 league rules for your review within the next few days.

Enjoy perusing the player rankings and feel free to make trades. Just E-Mail me with the terms. Looking forward to another outstanding season.
