  • hey gang! welcome back to the 2023 baseball fantasy league - what promises to be an interesting year due to the significant rule changes in MLB. I hope you guys are as excited about it as I am!

    First of all, i have to send this via email - no more message board, so be reminded that we will switch to using the Chats going forward (available only via mobile devices I believe).

    Second, I hope you are all assumed to be back? Please send me a reply via email or chats to confirm you are in within a week. Otherwise we would "right size" the league as needed.

    Now, down to the business. Your feedback welcome (emails or chats):

    (1) We are going to pick 5 keepers each. One of last year's suggestion I liked (but was too late to implement prior to last year's draft) was to slot the keeper picks according to a player's rounds.
    1 - Would you vote for this change? if yes, that means you could invest in up-n-comers while still having earlier round picks to draft older guys.
    2 - I plan to go with Yahoo default "current" ranking, not the ADP. while both would reflect rises/falls due to player news (promotions, position changes, injuries, trade, etc), Yahoo "current" ranking is driven by Yahoo experts, available directly in the "players" page and could be more predictable, whereas ADP is only available in the live draft window - just not as easy to access.
    3 - I will set the keeper deadline to be one week prior to draft date, and I will adjust the keeper by rounds on the LAST SUNDAY prior to the draft date. Sorry can't promise to work on this during weekdays, so I would apologize in advance that a few late player ranking position shifts may be missed. If there are significant shifts (like 3 rounds or more), please let me know and I will do my best to accommodate.

    (2) scoring positions and roster:

    we are pretty much same as yahoo standard setting except: 2 addition SPs and 2 NA slots. additional scoring - (hitting) Walks, (pitching) Save + Hold instead of Save only, K/BB. Not planning to change anything as we all seem to be happy about this in the past.

    Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Batting Average (AVG)
    Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Strikeouts (K), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Strikeouts per Walk Ratio (K/BB), Net Saves and Holds (NSVH)

    (3) playoff format and prize $$:

    some of you have asked to expand the playoff. I have been thinking "why not"? More teams more fun for the final few weeks of russian roulette I guess. Expand to 8 teams OK?

    prize $$ setup:
    regular season #1 and #2 - 50%, 20%
    playoff #1 and #2 - 20%, 10%
    bonus prize for best waiver wire pick - $100
