Commish Notes

  • 2020 Wild Pitch Keeper Rules

Each manager can keep up to 4 players from those remaining on their roster on the final day of the season. A maximum of 3 hitters or 3 pitchers can be kept. Keeping players is not required.

Managers cannot keep any players drafted in rounds 1-3 of the previous year.
Each year a player is kept, the player will occupy the manager’s draft pick 2 rounds earlier than the round he was drafted in the previous year. For example, if a player was drafted in the 10th round in 2019, he can be kept as the manager’s 8th round pick in 2020. That same player can be kept again in 2021 as the 6th round pick.

Players who are drafted and subsequently dropped by their manager will retain their “draft round” status for the season. If another manager acquires that player, the player may be kept according to the same rules as above.
If a manager chooses to keep two or more players who were drafted in the same round (acquired through trade or waiver pickup), the manager can determine the order of their value. Player A (as chosen by the manager) will occupy the usual draft pick 2 rounds earlier than the round he was previously drafted. Each additional player will occupy a draft pick 1 round EARLIER than Player A. For example, if the manager is keeping 3 players who were all drafted in the 10th round in 2017, then his 2018 draft would feature Player A as the 8th pick, Player B as the 7th pick, and Player C as the 6th pick.

Players who were not drafted by any team the previous year are eligible to be kept in the round corresponding to their Yahoo O-rank value (made final on the day on the day the Commissioner reveals all team’s keepers). For example, in a 10-team league, if the desired keeper is ranked #13 on Yahoo’s O-rank, he could be kept in the 2nd round. If the O-rank was #133, he could be kept in the 14th round.

A manager can only own an individual player for a maximum of 4 consecutive seasons before the player must re-enter the draft pool. If a player is traded mid-season, he is no longer bound by his previous 4-consecutive-season rule, and can begin a new 4 seasons with his new manager. The season in which the trade takes place counts as season 1, even if most of the season has already passed. The player could then be kept 3 more times (although regular draft pick rules still apply). The same is true for a new manager taking over a team from an exiting manager.

If a manager decides not to return to the league next season, a replacement manager will be found and the replacement manager will inherit the departing manager’s final roster and may choose keepers from that roster. The new manager can own his/her players for 4 seasons, regardless if they had already been keepers.

If a decision is made to reduce the number of teams in the league, the departing manager (s) will not be replaced and their roster(s) will be returned to the draft pool.

If a decision is made to increase the number of teams in the league, the new manager (s) will not have an opportunity to “keep” any players for their first season.
