      Jax allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in an 8-7 win over the Athletics in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.

      Advice: Jax hadn't logged a save since May 10, but he received the opportunity to do so Sunday after Jhoan Duran closed out the matinee game. While the two relievers initially shared closing duties early in May, Duran has been the Twins' main closer for about a month while Jax has settled into a setup role. He did allow a one-out single to JJ Bleday that put the tying run on base, but battled back to get Miguel Andujar on a fly ball to center field and Tyler Soderstrom on strikes to end it. The 27-year-old has now gone deeper than six innings in three straight starts and has walked merely one batter across his last 33.2 innings. He's tied with Corbin Burnes and Tanner Houck for the league lead with 12 quality starts and paces MLB with 98.1 innings pitched.       Advice: De La Cruz stuffed the stat sheet with a terrific performance Sunday, headlined by his solo homer in the eighth inning. He's up to 12 long balls with 36 steals this season. He went six straight games without a stolen base to begin the month but now has four over his last eight appearances.       Logan Gilbert allowed two hits and walked none over eight innings in the Mariners’ 5-0 shutout of the Rangers on Sunday.

      Advice: Gilbert recorded 21 whiffs and nine strikeouts in one of the best outings of his still rather young career. He’s 12-for-15 giving the Mariners quality starts this year, which would seem to warrant better than 4-4 record. His 2.93 ERA ranks 15th in the majors, but his 0.92 WHIP places fifth.       Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Sunday's 11-6 win over the Padres.

      Advice: With two men on in the first inning, Alonso took Dylan Cease deep for this 15th homer this season. He later added a two-run single as part of a four-run eighth to give him a season-high five RBI for the game. This one had to feel good for Alonso, as he broke out of a small slump where he had only five hits and one RBI over his last eight games.     • Pete Alonso paces Mets with five RBI
      Pete Alonso went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in the Mets’ 11-6 win over the Padres on Sunday.

      Advice: Alonso needed a game like this after a rough few weeks. The five RBI matched his total for the entire month of June entering play Sunday and ninth time in his career he’s driven in at least five runs in a single game. The Mets seem to finally be comfortable with their new lineup configuration with Alonso hitting clean-up behind Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, and J.D.
