    • Snaps slump with three hits
Verdugo went 3-for-4 with two doubles in Thursday's loss to Cincinnati.

Advice: Verdugo entered Thursday in the throes of a 12-game slump during which he went 6-for-47 (.128 average). The outfielder showed positive signs of getting back on track against the Reds, not only collecting three knocks but also producing two extra-base hits -- as many as he had tallied during that entire 12-game downturn. While Verdugo is on pace to set a career high in homers and RBI this season (he has nine long balls and 43 runs batted in through 85 games), his .248 batting average and .305 OBP are both on pace for his lowest marks since his 15-game cup of coffee with the Dodgers in 2017. • Struggles in Independence Day loss
Stroman (7-4) took the loss against Cincinnati on Thursday, pitching five innings and allowing five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings.

Advice: Stroman struggled to keep the ball in the park Thursday -- of the five hits he allowed, three were long balls, and all five of the runs he yielded came on home runs. The right-hander hadn't been prone to the long ball coming in, as he hadn't given up a homer in three of his prior four stats. Stroman hasn't been pitching particularly well of late, though, as he has a 6.43 ERA across 21 frames covering his past four outings. The five earned runs he allowed against the Reds tied a season-high mark. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 9:06 pm
    • Fares well in no-decision
Miller allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out six over 5.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Miller gave up a two-run home run to Gunnar Henderson in the third inning, but he was able to limit the damage there. While he came an out shy of a quality start for the second time in four outings, Miller put in a decent performance to avoid a third straight loss. The right-hander is at a 3.84 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 97:29 K:BB over 103 innings across 18 starts. He's projected for a road outing in San Diego in his next start. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 4:39 pm

    • Bryce Miller lasts 5 2/3 frames in no-decision
Bryce Miller allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Orioles.

Advice: Miller surrendered eight hits, including a two-run homer to Orioles superstar Gunnar Henderson, which accounted for all of the damage against him in a low-scoring showdown at T-Mobile Park. He finished with six strikeouts and only handed out one free pass. He’ll bring a respectable 3.84 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 97/29 K/BB ratio across 103 innings (18 starts) into a road tilt on Wednesday against the Padres in his final outing prior to the All-Star break. • Not in lineup Thursday
Siri isn't in the Rays' lineup Thursday versus the Royals.

Advice: Siri has just one hit and a walk in his last 15 plate appearances. The center fielder will get to reset on the bench, while Jonny DeLuca will start in his spot and bat seventh. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:33 pm

    • Marcus Stroman allows three homers in loss to Reds
Marcus Stroman gave up five runs while hurling five innings in a loss to the Reds on Thursday.

Advice: The long ball was a problem for Stroman, as he gave up three homers accounting for all five runs. He walked two and struck out six in a start that would have looked fine without the roundtrippers. That’s not how this works, unfortunately. Stroman will take a 3.58 ERA into his final start of the first half against the Rays on Wednesday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:10 pm
    • Mike Trout has begun hitting off a tee
Angels manager Ron Washington said that Mike Trout “has begun running on a treadmill and hitting off a tee.”

Advice: It would be very impressive to do those at the same time, but we’ll assume Trout is separating those activities. Still, it’s nice to see the 32-year-old making progress in his return from knee surgery. It was reported that Trout was running on a treadmill back in May, but taking swings has been a new development. The veteran says he wants to return before the end of July, so he may begin a rehab stint after the All-Star break if he continues to progress. Of course, the Angels have absolutely no need to rush him back this season. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:33 pm

    • Thomson: Schwaber could return on Tuesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said “it’s possible” that Kyle Schwarber (groin) could return on Tuesday when the Phillies begin their series against the Dodgers.

Advice: Schwarber is already running at 90% on the field and has not yet been on the IL for a week, so he likely wouldn’t need any rehab assignment if he progresses quickly. There are a few days to go, but it sounds like we might get a minimum stay for Schwarber on the IL. Rotoworld Yesterday, 12:23 pm

    • Runs on treadmill
Angels manager Ron Washington said Thursday that Trout (knee) has started running on a treadmill, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Advice: It's a big step in Trout's recovery as he works his way back from surgery on a torn meniscus in early May. He has also done some hitting on the field. Trout said this past weekend that he expected to return from the injured list by late July, although he certainly has some markers he needs to hit first before making that happen.
