      Munoz earned a save against the Royals on Monday, striking out three batters in 1.1 perfect innings.

      Advice: Munoz was summoned from the bullpen in the top of the eighth inning with two outs, Seattle up by two runs and the tying run at the plate. He struck out Nelson Velazquez to end the threat, then got some stress reduction when the Mariners' offense put up two runs in the bottom of the frame. From there, Munoz closed things out without incident, fanning two of the three batters he squared off against in the ninth frame. The save was his sixth of the season and first since April 30, though no other Seattle pitcher recorded a save in the meantime. Munoz has looked great since his lone blown save of the campaign April 21, tossing 9.1 scoreless frames during which he's posted a 10:1 K:BB across eight appearances.       Andrés Muñoz struck out three while going 1 1/3 scoreless innings Monday to get a save against the Royals.

      Advice: The Mariners won this game by four runs, but because the right-hander came in with the score 4-2, he still gets credit for the save. That’s the sixth of the season for the 25-year-old, and he’s lowered his ERA to an aesthetically pleasing 1.62 in the process.       Montas allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out three over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Giants on Sunday.

      Advice: Montas was cruising until the Giants built up a five-run rally in the fifth inning. The right-hander has made seven starts this year, and in the six during which he has been able to avoid injury, he's allowed two or fewer runs three times while giving up five runs in each of the other three. That averages out to a pedestrian 4.20 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 24:12 K:BB across 30 innings overall. Montas is projected for a difficult road start versus the Dodgers in his next outing.       Frankie Montas was roughed up for five runs — four earned — in 4 2/3 innings by the Giants on Sunday.

      Advice: Montas has shown better velocity in two starts since coming back from a forearm issue, but after a strong outing last week against the Diamondbacks, he didn’t do much to impress today, even while opening up with four scoreless frames.     • Alex Lange gives up four runs in relief
      Alex Lange gave up four runs and five hits in two-thirds of an inning of relief Sunday against the Astros.

      Advice: The good news for Lange is that the Tigers probably weren’t winning the game anyway, as he came on in the seventh with the team already down 4-0. Still, this was ugly; after getting the final out of the seventh, he retired just one of eight batters in the eighth. He gave up almost as many hits today as the six he had previously allowed in 14 innings this season, and his ERA, which was deflated by the fact that six of the seven runs he’d given up had been ruled unearned, went from 0.67 to 3.07.       Holmes earned the save in Friday's 2-0 win over the Rays, working around a hit and two walks while striking out three in a scoreless ninth inning.

      Advice: The Rays loaded the bases against Holmes in the ninth before the right-hander struck out Jonny DeLuca for the final out. Holmes has yet to allow an earned run this year, pitching to a 1.04 WHIP with 21:3 K:BB over 17.1 innings. He's up to 12 saves, tied with Kyle Finnegan and Robert Suarez for the league lead.     • Clay Holmes walks tightrope, escapes with save
      Clay Holmes walked the tightrope in the ninth inning on Friday night, but escaped with his 12th save of the season after stranding the bases loaded with a two-run lead.

      Advice: Holmes — who has yet to allow an earned run through 17 1/3 innings to begin the season — really had to work in this one. He issued a leadoff walk to Yandy Díaz and a one-out walk to Josh Lowe — striking out Randy Arozarena and Isaac Paredes in-between. He then allowed a two-out single to Austin Shenton that loaded the bases before striking out Jonny DeLuca after a six-pitch battle to end it.       Lange (0-2) allowed an unearned run on one hit to take the loss in Wednesday's 5-4, 10-inning contest against the Guardians.

      Advice: After recording the final out of the ninth inning, Lange had the unenviable task of pitching the bottom of the 10th in a tie game with a runner starting on second base. The righty retired the first batter but then allowed a walk-off hit to Brayan Rocchio. There shouldn't be too much read into the loss, and Lange has pitched well all season, as he's sitting with a stellar 0.64 ERA across 14 innings. Lange should continue to see high-leverage work for the Tigers moving forward, and he could slide back into the closer role at some point if he keeps up the strong play.       After the Tigers failed to score in the top of the inning, Alex Lange took a loss in the 10th against the Guardians on Wednesday.

      Advice: The Tigers really mixed things up relief-wise in this one, turning to Jason Foley for two outs in the seventh and Joey Wentz for four outs through the eighth. Wentz allowed an unearned run, narrowing Detroit’s lead to one, and Andrew Chafin, given a rare chance to close, made that go away by giving up a homer to David Fry. Lange went on to get the final out of the ninth. In the 10th, he got an out on a sac bunt and then gave up the winning single.
