    • Plays nine innings Thursday
Thomas (knee) went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts for Double-A Harrisburg on Thursday while playing all nine innings in right field.

Advice: It's the first time in three rehab games that Thomas has played a full nine innings. The 28-year-old is 2-for-9 at the plate in those three contests with a double and a stolen base, and per Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports, the Nationals are considering whether to activate him Friday or leave him on his rehab assignment for another couple days to get his timing back at the plate. When Thomas does come off the IL, however, he should immediately slot back into the starting lineup in right field for Washington. Rotowire.com Today, 7:54 am

    • Slugs ninth homer
Varsho went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's rout of the Tigers.

Advice: His seventh-inning long ball off Jack Flaherty broke open what had been a 1-1 pitchers' duel, sending the Blue Jays on their way to an eventual 9-1 victory. Varsho has five multi-RBI performances in the last nine games, and on the season he leads Toronto in both homers (nine) and RBI (27) despite an unimpressive .213/.303/.458 slash line. • Records third steal
Albies went 1-for-3 with a walk, one RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Albies is hitting well, going 11-for-40 (.275) over his last 10 games, though he has just one extra-base hit, a double, in that span. The second baseman is slashing .269/.330/.388 with three home runs, three steals, 23 RBI, 22 runs scored and 10 doubles over 39 contests on the year. He's locked into a starting role, but the lack of counting stats is a small concern for a player that has hit 20-plus homers four times in the last six years. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:40 pm

    • Varsho blasts ninth home run Thursday
Daulton Varsho went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run against the Tigers on Thursday.

Advice: Varsho came to the plate in a tie game in the seventh inning and hit a two-run home run off Tigers starter Jack Flaherty that put the Blue Jays ahead for good. Varsho is hitting just .213 this year, but he has five stolen bases to go with nine home runs and 27 RBI. Rotoworld Yesterday, 6:30 pm

    • Another strong outing
Skenes didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Giants, allowing one run on six hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out three.

Advice: While Thursday's outing wasn't as dominant as Skene's 11-strikeout performance in his previous start, the rookie right-hander was still effective, coaxing a pair of key double-play balls to limit the Giants to just one run. However, the Pirates bullpen would implode late, leaving Skenes with a no-decision in an eventual 7-6 loss. Skenes now sports a 2.25 ERA with a 1.00 WHIP and an impressive 21:4 K:BB through his first three starts (16 innings). He's currently in line for a road matchup with the Tigers in his next outing. • Paul Skenes limits Giants to one run over six
Paul Skenes allowed one run over six innings with three strikeouts, but didn’t factor into the decision against the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Skenes allowed six hits and one walk. The right-hander didn’t have his best swing-and-miss stuff, and he did deal with some traffic; something he didn’t deal with at all in his six no-hit innings Friday against the Cubs. Even still, the 21-year-old was impressive again, and he now has a 2.25 ERA and a 21/4 K/BB over three starts. Next up for Skenes is a start against the Tigers on Wednesday. • Getting breather Thursday
Canha isn't in the Tigers' lineup for Thursday's game versus Toronto.

Advice: Canha will get a day to regroup after going 0-for-15 with five strikeouts across his past four games. Matt Vierling, Wenceel Perez and Kerry Carpenter will start across the outfield while Riley Greene serves as Detroit's designated hitter. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 11:40 am

    • TJ Friedl hopes to take batting practice soon
According to The Enquirer’s Charlie Goldsmith, TJ Friedl (broken thumb) “continues to progress” and hopes to take “batting practice soon.”

Advice: TJ Friedl is back to hitting off flips as he works back from a broken thumb. Once he is able to take batting practice, his next step will likely be live at-bats and a rehab assignment. It’s possible that he could be back around mid-June but it will depend on how his thumb feels while taking live swings. Rotoworld Yesterday, 9:15 am

    • Hitting flipped pitches
Friedl (thumb) has progressed to hitting flipped balls in the batting cage and hopes to be cleared to take batting practice soon, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Advice: Friedl is making a rapid recovery from a fractured left thumb, an injury he suffered just 11 days ago. If the outfielder is able to take batting practice soon, a brief rehab assignment should follow shortly after. He would appear on track for an early June return from the 10-day injured list.
