      Assad (4-1) took the loss Sunday against the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight over five innings.

      Advice: Assad's final run line could've looked a lot better had it not been for two mistakes thrown to Paul Goldschmidt. He served up nearly identical two-run homers to Goldschmidt in the third and fifth innings to give the Cardinals a lead they would never relinquish. Assad has now allowed multiple home runs in back-to-back starts while also walking eight batters over that span. The one positive to take away from Sunday's outing is he was able to tie his career-high with eight strikeouts and has 19 strikeouts over his last 15.2 innings.     • Javier Assad serves up two homers in loss Sunday
      Javier Assad wasn’t at his best in Sunday night’s loss to the Cardinals, giving up four runs on five hits over his five innings of work.

      Advice: The right-hander piled up eight strikeouts on the night while issuing three free passes. All of the damage done against him came on two bad pitches, that Paul Goldschmidt pulverized for a pair of two-run homers — one in the third inning and another in the fifth. Assad got seven swings and misses on 81 pitches on the night, registering a strong CSW of 35 percent.     • Tosses clean rehab inning
      Phillips (hamstring) retired all three batters he faced -- including two by strikeout -- in a rehab outing with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.

      Advice: Phillips needed just 11 pitches to get through the frame. The appearance was the first for the closer since he went on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain May 5.       Alexis Díaz struck out both batters he faced for a save Sunday against the Dodgers.

      Advice: The Reds were up 4-0 to start the ninth, so Díaz didn’t enter then. Instead, he came in after Carson Spiers allowed Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman to reach with one out, creating the save opportunity. Díaz then retired Teoscar Hernández and Andy Pages to end the game.       Javier is dealing with forearm discomfort and didn't throw his scheduled bullpen session Sunday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

      Advice: Manager Joe Espada said Javier is day-to-day, but the right-hander would appear to be at significant risk of missing his next turn through the rotation Tuesday in Seattle. Chandler Rome of The Athletic speculates Hunter Brown could start Tuesday on four days' rest, with Eric Lauer a possibility to be called up from Triple-A Sugar Land to fill Javier's turn in the rotation Wednesday.       Advice: Diaz closed the door on the Dodgers for the second consecutive game, though he ran both counts full and needed 16 pitches to record the final two outs. It was the fourth consecutive scoreless outing for Diaz, who appears to be turning things around after allowing 17 baserunners and 10 runs (nine earned) while blowing a save and earning two losses over his previous seven appearances spanning 5.2 innings between April 29 and May 19.       Cristian Javier did not throw his scheduled bullpen session on Sunday due to discomfort in his forearm.

      Advice: The 27-year-old right-hander is being considered day-to-day, but that has to put Tuesday’s start against the Mariners in Seattle in jeopardy. Look for the Astros to provide more information on his status prior to Monday’s contest. Fantasy managers should be sure to have a contingency plan in place in the event that Javier is unable to go.       Brandon Marsh went 2-for-2 with a walk and a caught stealing in a loss to the Rockies on Sunday.

      Advice: Marsh has cooled down from his strong start to the season, coming into the game hitting just .222 in 18 games in Marsh with no home runs after belting six in his first 28 games. It seems that Marsh changed his pull-heavy approach from April which led to a high strikeout rate but strong power numbers. Marsh is now striking out less but also pulling the ball less and slugging .259 in May compared to .505 in April.     • Evan Phillips fires perfect inning in rehab outing
      Evan Phillips (hamstring) fired a perfect inning in his first minor league rehab appearance at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday.

      Advice: The 29-year-old right-hander needed just 11 pitches to retire the side in order — getting a pair of strikeouts and a ground out.
