    • Shane Baz (elbow) makes rehab start at Triple-A
Shane Baz (elbow) allowed three runs over three innings last Saturday in a minor league rehab start for Triple-A Durham.

Advice: Baz has finally progressed to rehab outings after missing the first couple weeks of the year due to ongoing elbow and oblique issues. He topped out at 97 mph on his fastball and threw 39 pitches in his rehab debut. The 24-year-old righty is expected to be an option for Tampa Bay’s starting rotation at some point this summer, but remains without a definitive return target date as he continues to work his way back from Tommy John surgery. • Ian Gibaut (forearm) to undergo surgery Thursday
Ian Gibaut (forearm) is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Advice: There should be a clearer timetable for Gibaut’s potential return following the surgical procedure. The 30-year-old righty is expected to undergo either a relatively minor carpal tunnel release or a much more invasive forearm nerve procedure that would require a longer recovery time. • Exits with hand injury
Contreras was removed from Tuesday's game against the Mets with a left hand injury, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Contreras was hit in the hand by a J.D. Martinez swing during the second inning of Tuesday's contest, and he appeared to be in a significant amount of pain before walking off the field. The 31-year-old backstop will almost certainly go in for X-rays, and the Cardinals should offer an update on his status in the near future. Rotowire.com 16 minutes ago

    • Chad Green (shoulder) resumes throwing
Chad Green (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session later this week.

Advice: Green landed on the injured list back in late April with a teres major strain in his right shoulder and remains without a firm return timetable. Rotoworld 17 minutes ago

    • Joey Votto (ankle) nearing rehab contests
Joey Votto (ankle) is close to getting into minor league rehab games.

Advice: Votto continues to ramp up baseball activity at Toronto’s spring training facility in Dunedin, Florida as he works his way back from an ankle injury that he suffered back in spring training. The 40-year-old veteran figures to be an option for the Blue Jays at some point this summer. Rotoworld 21 minutes ago

    • Nearing light activity
Bailey (concussion) could start light baseball activity Wednesday, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Advice: Bailey was placed on the 7-day injured list with a concussion Saturday and is now on the cusp of returning to log some activity on the field according to manager Bob Melvin. The catcher will need to ramp up his work over a few days before he'd potentially be able to return to the lineup. In the meantime, Blake Sabol will likely continue to handle most the work behind the plate with Tom Murphy (knee) also unavailable. Rotowire.com 23 minutes ago

    • Melvin: Patrick Bailey (concussion) ‘improving’
Patrick Bailey (concussion) is expected to resume light baseball activities this week.

Advice: Giants manager Bob Melvin told reporters Tuesday that Bailey is improving after landing on the concussion injured list over the weekend. There is obviously no timetable for the 24-year-old backstop’s return at this juncture. Rotoworld 27 minutes ago

    • Kodai Senga to throw another bullpen this week
Kodai Senga (shoulder) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session this week.

Advice: Senga faced hitters over the weekend in a live batting practice session and could do so again in the coming days before heading out on a minor league rehab assignment. The 31-year-old righty isn’t expected to make his season debut until late May or early June, barring something unexpected. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

    • Bryan Bello returning Sunday against Nationals
Bryan Bello (lat) struck out five over 2 2/3 innings on Tuesday in a minor league rehab start for Double-A Portland.

Advice: Bello told reporters following the 52-pitch rehab outing that he’ll start on Sunday against the Nationals at Fenway Park instead of making any additional rehab tune-ups. The 24-year-old righty has been out since late April due to right lat tightness. Rotoworld 40 minutes ago
