    • Yusei Kikuchi struggles before rain delay
      Yusei Kikuchi allowed four runs in two-plus innings on Sunday against the Guardians. He walked one, struck out three, and allowed eight hits in a loss.

      Advice: The rain came at a great time for Kikuchi who’d loaded the bases with no outs in the third inning. He’s given up at least four earned runs in three of his last six starts and seen his ERA balloon from 2.64 on May 21st to 4.00 after this game. Oddly enough, he threw his fastest pitch of the season in this one at 98.3 MPH. Kikuchi is, was, and will forever be an odd bird. Rotoworld Sunday, 2:33 pm
       
    • Max Fried keeps Yankees bats at bay
      Max Fried allowed one run on six hits in six innings in a win over the Yankees on Sunday.

      Advice: It wasn’t a dominant outing for the left-hander, but he allowed just one extra-base hit all day and was able to pitch his way out of any trouble that he found himself in. He induced just seven whiffs on 39 swings for an 18 percent whiff rate and 26 percent CSW, but that’s a pretty solid day against a good Yankees lineup.     • Picks up seventh win
      Fried improved to 7-3 on the season in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Yankees, striking out four while allowing one run on six hits and no walks over six innings.

      Advice: Fried kept the Yankees off the board until a solo run crossed in the sixth on an Anthony Volpe double. Three of the six hits Fried allowed came during the sixth, but a timely double play ended the inning and kept Fried in line for his seventh win. Fried has now turned in eight quality starts through 15 outing, and in seventh of those starts, he's gone at least six innings while allowing no more than one earned run. He's currently scheduled to next toe the rubber against Pittsburgh when the Pirates head to Atlanta for a weekend set. Rotowire.com Sunday, 1:49 pm

      Bryce Miller allowed six earned runs in four innings on Sunday against the Marlins. He struck out three and walked one in a loss.

      Advice: This felt like a smash-spot for Miller and instead the lowly Marlins smashed him. They hammered his usually excellent fastball for an average exit velocity of 101.6 MPH on five balls in play. Yes, an average exit velocity of 101.6 MPH. Jesús Sánchez also hammered a splitter that sat at the top of the zone an estimated 429 feet. His command was poor, he only forced four swings and misses, and got crushed.     • Max Fried stellar against Yankees in win
      Max Fried shut the Yankees out over six innings in a 3-1 win on Sunday. He struck out four without walking a batter.

      Advice: Fried was great in this and kept the Yankees off-balance by mixing all five of his pitches. He didn’t throw one individual offering more than 30% of the time and was adept at varying his four-seam fastball, sinker, and curveball early in counts. He’s as steady and stable as they come.       Burnes (8-3) allowed four runs on five hits and struck out five without walking a batter over seven innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Astros.

      Advice: Burnes had a solid outing, but a two-run home run by Yordan Alvarez and a solo shot by Chas McCormick were too much for the Orioles to overcome. This marks the first time all year Burnes has given up multiple homers in a start -- he's yielded just 10 long balls through 16 starts. While this wasn't his best work, he's still at an excellent 2.35 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 94:24 K:BB through 99.2 innings. Burnes is projected to make his next start at home versus the Rangers.     • Corbin Burnes gives up two homers in loss to Astros
      Corbin Burnes gave up four runs over seven innings with five strikeouts in a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

      Advice: Burnes gave up two homers in the loss, including a two-run homer by Yordan Alvarez. Outside of the roundtrippers the 29-year-old was mostly solid, but he was outdueled by Ronel Blanco as Baltimore dropped their second consecutive game in the three-game set. Burnes is back on the bump Thursday against the Rangers, assuming Baltimore doesn’t change the rotation order. Rotoworld Saturday, 3:29 pm
       
    • Season-high 10 Ks in win
      Abbott (6-6) picked up the win Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in a 5-2 victory over the Red Sox. He struck out 10.

      Advice: The 10 Ks were a season high for Abbott and marked the third time in 36 career big-league starts he's reached double digits. The 25-year-old lefty hasn't had consistent swing-and-miss stuff this year -- he hasn't fanned more than six batters in an outing since May 4 -- and continues to have trouble keeping the ball in the park, as both runs against him Friday came on solo shots, but he's been making it all work so far in 2024. Abbott will take a 3.40 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 70:26 K:BB through 84.2 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come at home next week against the Pirates.       Andrew Abbott fanned 10 while allowing two runs in 5 2/3 innings Friday in a win over the Red Sox.

      Advice: The 10 strikeouts topped his previous season high by two. Abbott yielded homers to Connor Wong and Jarren Duran, but no further damage was done. There still isn’t much at all to like about Abbott’s peripherals, but he has reduced his walk rate, and this is the right year to be a big flyball pitcher. He’s currently 6-6 with a 3.40 ERA, even though he’s given up 15 homers in 84 2/3 innings. Rotoworld Friday, 10:41 pm
