    • Tosses sim game, rehab start next
Kershaw (shoulder) threw a two-inning simulated game Sunday in Los Angeles, the Associated Press reports. "It was good to see him throw two innings. We accomplished what we wanted to," manager Dave Roberts said after Kershaw's workout.

Advice: Kershaw has resided on the injured list all season after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder last November, but he looks like he could be ready to make his 2024 debut for the Dodgers at some point within the next month. The 36-year-old had previously made a three-inning rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on June 19, but he was then shut down from throwing for the next week after experiencing lingering soreness in his shoulder. According to Roberts, Kershaw is in line to resume his rehab assignment next Saturday, likely with Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kershaw is expected to cover three innings in that outing, and he's likely to require at least tow rehab starts beyond that one before the Dodgers bring him back from the 60-day IL. • Could be activated Tuesday
Phillies manager Rob Thomson said Sunday that Harper (hamstring) is "in play" to be activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Dodgers, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

Advice: While Thomson confirmed that Kyle Schwarber (groin) will be back with the big club Tuesday, the skipper was less certain that Harper will be ready to go for the start of the three-game series with the NL West leaders. On a positive note, Harper ran on the field for a second straight day Sunday, with Zolecki relaying that the first baseman appeared to be moving at close to 100 percent intensity. Harper has been on the IL since June 28 with a left hamstring strain, with his absence opening up regular playing time at first base for Kody Clemens against right-handed pitching. • Flaherty (back) scheduled to start Thursday
Jack Flaherty (back) is scheduled to start Thursday’s game against the Guardians.

Advice: Flaherty missed Wednesday’s scheduled start against the Twins because of his back issue. The right-handed hurler will need to avoid setbacks in order to make that next start and Detroit will take the necessary precautions, but it’s obviously a good sign that the 28-year-old is penciled in for the outing. • Rejoining rotation Thursday
The Tigers list Flaherty (back) as their scheduled starter for Thursday's game against the Guardians in Detroit, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Advice: Flaherty avoided a stint on the injured list when a back issue reared its head coming out of his June 27 start versus the Angels, but he'll end up having missed nearly two weeks while waiting for two pain-killing injections to provide some relief. The Tigers seem confident that the extended rest will help resolve Flaherty's back problems, which also resulted in him missing a turn through the rotation in the first half of June. Back issues aside, Flaherty has been even better than the Tigers could have hoped when they signed him to a one-year, $14 million deal this winter. Over his 15 starts, Flaherty has gone 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 115:14 K:BB in 89 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 12:47 pm
    • Kershaw (shoulder) throws two simulated innings
Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) threw two simulated innings before Sunday’s game.

Advice: Kershaw continues to make progress from his shoulder surgery, and the left-hander is getting closer to a rehab appearance. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters that Kershaw’s next outing would aim for three simulated innings. Kershaw is expected back not long after the All-Star break. • Returns to starting nine
Altuve (hand) will start at second base and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Twins.

Advice: For just the fourth time all season, Altuve missed out on a start in Saturday's 9-3 loss while he recovered from a hand contusion stemming from being hit by a pitch in Friday's 13-12 win. The day off was apparently all Altuve needed to heal up from the bruise to his left hand, as he'll take back his usual spot in the field and atop the batting order for the series finale. Altuve had been running hot at the dish prior to sitting out Saturday, slashing .400/.449/.556 with two home runs and three stolen bases over his last 10 games. Rotowire.com Today, 10:16 am

    • Altuve returns to lineup, Alvarez out vs. Twins
Jose Altuve (hand) is back in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Twins.

Advice: Altuve is in the starting lineup after suffering a bruise on his left hand that kept him out Saturday. That’s good news for the Astros and fantasy managers, but the team will be without Yordan Alvarez (knee) for Sunday’s finale against Minnesota. Altuve will hit leadoff and play second base in his return to the fold. Rotoworld Today, 8:33 am

    • Takes third loss in quality start
Lugo (11-3) was tagged with the loss against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out eight.

Advice: Lugo allowed baserunners in five of his six innings of work but managed to limit the damage to three runs (two earned) as Kansas City's offense struggled to get any momentum going behind him. The right-hander induced 15 swings and misses on the night and has now recorded at least five strikeouts in four consecutive starts. Lugo has also posted quality starts in five straight and hasn't given up more than two runs in each of his last five outings. His 2.21 ERA on the season currently leads the majors, while his 11 wins also have him tied with Chris Sale for the league lead. Rotowire.com Today, 6:41 am

    • Homers again
Steer went 1-for-3 with a home run and an additional run in Saturday's 5-3 loss to the Tigers.

Advice: Steer homered for a third straight game when he launched a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. He's up to 13 home runs and a team-high 57 RBI. Rotowire.com Today, 6:02 am
