    • Chris Bassitt strikes out seven to beat White Sox
      Chris Bassitt recorded seven strikeouts over five shutout innings on Monday in a win over the White Sox.

      Advice: Bassitt looked really sharp in his second consecutive outing against Chicago, scattering five hits and needing just 81 pitches (52 strikes) to complete five frames in this one. He generated 11 swinging strikes and finished with a solid 35 percent CSW. He’ll bring a pedestrian 4.03 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 56/25 K/BB ratio across 60 1/3 innings (11 starts) into a home matchup on Sunday against the Pirates. Rotoworld Monday, 1:54 pm
       
    • Reds activate Nick Lodolo from IL
      Reds activated LHP Nick Lodolo from the 15-day injured list.

      Advice: Lodolo was off to a tremendous start to the season, with his 3.34 ERA and 43/9 K/BB ratio in six starts after returning from his leg injury from last year. The 26-year-old has yet to have arm problems in his MLB career but has been banged up continuously. The Reds will hope he can remain healthy for the rest of the season, but he is a risky start today after not making a rehab appearance prior to being activated.       Lodolo (groin) was activated from the 15-day injured list Monday ahead of his scheduled start against the Cardinals.

      Advice: An extended bullpen session last Wednesday put Lodolo in the clear to return after the minimum, and without a rehab assignment. The left-hander has pitched brilliantly in between IL stints this season, posting a 3.34 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 43:9 K:BB over 35 innings. While he may not be available for 90-plus pitches right away in his return, there has been nothing to suggest Lodolo will face any major restrictions against St. Louis.     • Sharp outing against Yankees
      Musgrove did not factor into the decision in Sunday's win over the Yankees, allowing one run on six hits and no walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings.

      Advice: Musgrove blanked the Yankees through five before Juan Soto finally opened up the scoring with a one-out RBI double in the sixth that prompted Musgrove's exit after 87 pitches. Despite remaining winless since April 21, Sunday's start was an encouraging showing and one of Musgrove's best starts in what's been a tough season for him so far. The 31-year-old will carry a 5.66 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 44:15 K:BB (49.1 innings) into a road start against the Royals this weekend. Rotowire.com Monday, 7:12 am
       
    • Joe Musgrove pitches well in no-decision vs. Yanks
      Joe Musgrove looked sharp in a no-decision against the Yankees on Sunday afternoon, surrendering just one run on six hits over his 5 1/3 innings.

      Advice: The 31-year-old hurler struck out five batters on the afternoon and didn’t issue a base on balls. He kept the Yankees off the board through the first five innings until Juan Soto broke through with a one-out RBI double in the sixth that chased Musgrove from the ballgame. The Padres would go on to score four times in their half of the sixth inning, but Musgrove wouldn’t benefit. He generated 10 swings and misses on 87 pitches on the day, registering a solid CSW of 29 percent. He’ll look to build off of this start as he carries a 5.66 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 44/15 K/BB ratio (49 1/3 innings) into Saturday’s start against the Royals in Kansas City.     • Throws six shutout innings
      Rodon (6-2) earned the win Friday over the Padres, pitching six shutout innings while allowing three hits and three walks with two strikeouts.

      Advice: Rodon wasn't dominant, but the Padres' offense didn't find much success. This was a fourth straight quality start for the southpaw, who has won all of those outings while allowing just five runs over 24.1 innings. Rodon has had just one bad start this season -- May 2 in Baltimore, when he got tagged for six earned runs over four innings. He has a 2.95 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 57:19 K:BB over 61 innings through 11 starts on the season. The 31-year-old is projected to make his next start on the road versus the Angels in a favorable matchup.     • Carlos Rodón blanks Padres over six in victory
      Carlos Rodón blanked the Padres over six innings to pick up a win Friday.

      Advice: This was far from Rodón at his most dominant, as the left-hander only struck out two batters. It was still an effective outing for the 31-year-old, as he allowed just three hits and eliminated any traffic that San Diego put up against the southpaw. Rodón has been much more effective in 2024 — a bit of faint praise considering his struggles in 2023 — and he’s lowered his ERA to 2.95 with these shutout frames. The Yankees and fantasy managers should be pleased with what they’ve seen, even if the metrics suggest a smidgen of good luck thus far. Rotoworld Friday, 9:26 pm
       
    • Coughs up five runs
      Paxton allowed five runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings in a no-decision Friday. He struck out four during the Dodgers' loss to the Reds.

      Advice: Paxton got off to a rough start by yielding a three-run shot to Spencer Steer in the first inning. The Reds's bats then went quiet until a six-run fifth inning. Paxton was charged with two of those as he gave up a season-high five runs during his shortest outing of the year. The veteran southpaw saw his ERA jump from 2.84 to 3.49 through 49 frames. Paxton is still 5-0 despite some recent struggles (4.13 ERA over his last five starts). His next outing is projected to come on the road against the Mets next week.       James Paxton allowed five earned runs in 4 ⅔ to the Reds on Friday. He walked four and struck out four.

      Advice: It’s a marvel Paxton’s ERA remains a respectable 3.49 despite the same exact number of walks and strikeouts through nine starts. The five wins are nice and a byproduct of pitching for the Dodgers, but the bottom can and will fall out from under Paxton at any moment if he can’t strike more batters out. Rotoworld Friday, 7:53 pm
