    • X-rays negative on Nolan Arenado’s right hand
X-rays came back negative on Nolan Arenado’s right hand.

Advice: Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters Arenado is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his right hand. The 33-year-old third baseman, who finished 0-for-4 on Thursday afternoon, appears to have avoided serious injury after being hit by a pitch on the back of his right hand while striking out swinging during his final at-bat. He might require a couple games off to let the pain and swelling subside, but it doesn’t appear he’s facing an extended absence. Rotoworld Thursday, 2:45 pm
    • X-rays on hand negative
X-rays on Arenado's right hand game back negative after he was hit by a pitch during Thursday's win over Pittsburgh, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Advice: Arenado struck out swinging on a pitch that hit him in the hand during the eighth inning. He immediately headed back into the Cardinals' clubhouse to get checked out, but manager Oliver Marmol said Arenado simply suffered a bone bruise and is considered day-to-day. The 33-year-old is slashing .273/.340/.386 with a home run and five RBI since the beginning of June. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:28 pm
    • Nolan Arenado leaves game after being hit by pitch
Nolan Arenado made an early exit from Thursday’s game against the Pirates after being hit by a pitch.

Advice: Arenado was hit by a pitch on the right hand while striking out in the bottom of the eighth inning and appeared to leave the contest afterwards. However, it’s difficult to confirm since he was in the lineup at designated hitter in this one. There should be an update on his status. He was 0-for-4 with a strikeout prior to leaving. • Nearly ready to take swings
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Thursday that Nootbaar (oblique) continues to take part in "rotational work" and could resume swinging a bat this weekend, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Cardinals will presumably ease Nootbaar into swinging by having him hit off a tee or hit soft-toss throws before he eventually gains clearance to hit against higher-velocity pitching. In addition to being able to hit without discomfort, Nootbaar, who has been on the injured list since May 31 with a left oblique strain, will also need to prove that the injury doesn't compromise him when he runs the bases or plays the outfield. He still appears to be at least a couple weeks away from being a realistic option to rejoin the Cardinals, and Nootbaar will presumably need to go out on a minor-league rehab assignment prior to being activated. • Not in St. Louis lineup
Carpenter is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates.

Advice: Carpenter has been seeing most of the starts in the designated-hitter spot for the Cardinals versus righties since Lars Nootbaar (oblique) went on the injured list, resulting in Alec Burleson playing regularly in right field. However, Carpenter will begin Thursday's contest on the bench against right-hander Mitch Keller. Nolan Arenado will serve as St. Louis' DH while Jose Fermin replaces Arenado at third base. • Notches first steal of season
Donovan went 2-for-3 with a walk, one RBI, a stolen base and one run scored in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Pirates.

Advice: Donovan extended his hitting streak to seven games. He's gone 9-for-27 (.333) in that span, but just one of those hits has gone for extra bases. The 27-year-old's steal Wednesday was his first of the season, and he's not much of a speed threat after logging just five thefts in 95 games a year ago. Donovan is up to a .247/.322/.368 slash line with four home runs, 28 RBI, 30 runs scored, 15 doubles and one triple over 270 plate appearances this season. He spent much of the first two months of the season batting leadoff versus right-handed pitchers, but Masyn Winn is now atop the order on a near-everyday basis, having hit there in all but two of 11 games in June. Donovan has hit no higher than sixth over the last week. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:23 pm

    • Tallies three hits Wednesday
Arenado went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI in a 4-2 win against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Advice: Among Arenado's three hits was a third-inning RBI double that was St. Louis' only extra-base hit of the contest. The veteran third baseman batted .167 over his first seven contests in June but has perked up since, putting together a four-game hitting streak during which he has gone 8-for-16. The hot stretch has improved his season slash line to .264/.320/.386. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 11:00 pm
    • Opens scoring with homer
Raley went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the White Sox.

Advice: Raley opened the scoring with a seventh-inning blast, and he also scored the winning run in the 10th as Mitch Haniger's single knocked him in. Over 11 games in June, Raley has gone 9-for-32 (.281) with three homers and six RBI. The outfielder is at a .264/.310/.442 slash line with seven homers, 18 RBI, 22 runs scored and five stolen bases over 174 plate appearances this season. Raley is in a strong-side platoon role in left field, sharing the position with Victor Robles. Rotowire.com Wednesday, 9:46 pm

    • Goes deep Wednesday
Lindor went 2-for-5 with a solo home run, a double and two total runs in a 10-4 victory versus Miami on Wednesday.

Advice: Lindor opened the bottom of the first inning with a double and subsequently scored on Harrison Bader's home run. The shortstop hit a long ball of his own in the eighth frame, going 414 feet to center field. Lindor has disappointed a bit this season after notching his first 30-30 campaign last year, though with 11 homers and nine steals he's one theft away from reaching double digits in both categories -- something only seven MLB players have done so far this season.
