    • Nolan Arenado doubles twice, drives in three
Nolan Arenado drove in all three runs for the Cardinals while doubling twice against the White Sox on Friday.

Advice: Arenado doubled home two runs in the first, and another in the fifth. The 33-year-old has picked up eight two-baggers in the 2024 campaign, and the pair of hits ups his slash to .279/.338/.369. The power really hasn’t shown up for Arenado so far, but a couple of extra-base hits is always nice to see. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

    • Ryan Helsley hurls scoreless ninth for save
Ryan Helsley picked up a save Friday against the White Sox without allowing a run in his inning of work.

Advice: Helsley didn’t give up a hit, didn’t give up a walk, and didn’t pick up a strikeout. The right-hander needed just eight pitches — seven of those strikes — against a Chicago team that looked like it wanted to be anywhere else. Helsley has already saved 11 games, and he lowered his ERA to 1.59 with the scoreless frame. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

    • Sonny Gray blanks White Sox over seven in victory
Sonny Gray didn’t allow a run over seven innings with six strikeouts to help the Cardinals to a 3-0 victory over the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Gray was outstanding against a White Sox lineup that shouldn’t be legal. The right-hander gave up just three hits over those seven frames, and he issued one walk while throwing 65-of-94 pitches for strikes. Over his last two starts, Gray has allowed just a single earned run while striking out 15 over 13 innings. That’ll work. He’ll face the Mets next week. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

    • Increasing baseball activiteis
Edman (wrist) is slated to take full swings off a tee Saturday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Advice: Edman recently progressed to hitting from both sides of the dish after being limited to the right side due to his surgically repaired right wrist. He was also seen tracking fly balls during batting practice Friday, per John Denton of MLB.com. Edman still appears far away from a rehab assignment, but the 29-year-old is steadily progressing. • Won't make another rehab start
Manager Alex Cora said Friday that Pivetta (elbow) does not need to make another rehab start, Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Pivetta surrendered four runs over three-plus innings during his lone rehab start at Triple-A Worcester on Thursday. Despite his subpar performance, the Red Sox will waste no time returning the 31-year-old right-hander to their rotation, which has already been hit hard by injuries this season. Pivetta has given up one earned run across 11 innings through two starts this year, and he appears in line to make his return in Atlanta on Tuesday or Wednesday. Rotowire.com Today, 3:00 pm

    • Cardinals taking things slow with Tommy Edman
Cardinals’ manager Oli Marmol said Friday that the team continues to proceed cautiously with Tommy Edman (wrist).

Advice: The 28-year-old has been hitting off of a tee from both sides of the plate, but Marmol noted that his progression will continue to be slower than most injured players’ by design. He also said that a minor league rehab assignment is not imminent. Expect the Cardinals to continue to build him up slowly with no clear timetable on when he could be ready to make his 2024 season debut. Rotoworld Today, 2:52 pm

    • Takes seat Friday
Bader is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Rays.

Advice: Bader will get the day off Friday, as Tyrone Taylor fills in at center field against Aaron Civale and the Rays. Bader played in each game of the Mets four-game series against the Cubs, so it's likely a rest day for the center fielder. Rotowire.com Today, 1:35 pm
    • Scores three times Thursday
Bader went 2-for-4 with three runs scored in Thursday's extra-innings win over the Cubs.

Advice: After singling and crossing the plate in the fifth and sixth innings, Bader got hit by a pitch to lead off the 11th and scored the winning run after a Francisco Lindor double. Bader has scored only once in his prior nine games while batting .143 (4-for-28), but overall the center fielder is having a solid first season with the Mets. Through 93 plate appearances, he's slashing .281/.312/.337 with a homer, five steals, seven RBI and 13 runs. Rotowire.com Today, 8:05 am
    • Begins rehab assignment
Carpenter (oblique) has been sent to Double-A Springfield to begin a rehab assignment.

Advice: What would have been Carpenter's first rehab game was rained out Thursday, but he's been cleared for game action after missing the last month with a right oblique strain. It's not clear how many rehab at-bats the 38-year-old will need before being activated. Once he does return, he'll give the Cardinals another option at designated hitter. Rotowire.com Today, 6:25 am
