    • Arenado belts seventh home run in loss Thursday
      Nolan Arenado went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run against the Reds on Thursday.



      Advice: Arenado’s home run was his seventh of the season. He’s struggled mightily this year with a .258 average and .691 OPS. Arenado finished third in the National League MVP voting just two years ago, but has hit .262 with 33 home runs and 127 RBI in 218 games since then.

    • Wacha strikes out six in no-decision Thursday
      Michael Wacha allowed one run in 5 1/3 innings and got a no-decision in the Royals’ 2-1 victory over the Guardians on Thursday.

      Advice: Wacha gave up seven hits, walked two and struck out six. It was another decent outing for Wacha in his second start since returning from the injured list. Once again the Royals didn’t provide him with any run support while he was in the game. His ERA is 3.91 on the year. The 32-year-old right-hander is set to face the Rays at home next week.

    • Garcia blasts 15th home run in loss Thursday
      Adolis Garcia went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Orioles on Thursday.



      Advice: Garcia’s home run was his 15th of the season. It hasn’t been Garcia’s best season, but he’s showing what it means to possess a solid floor. He’s only hitting .219, but he’s still on pace for around 30 home runs with 15 stolen bases and run totals in the mid-80s. Even though Garcia isn’t repeating the monster season he produced last year, he’s still carving out a pretty nice year for himself.

    • Kyle Tucker (shin) progresses to hitting again
      Kyle Tucker (shin) progressed to taking 30 swings off a batting tee earlier this week.

      Advice: Tucker is close to resuming running again after landing on the injured list earlier this month with a right shin contusion. It’s a positive sign that he’s progressed to taking some swings again. There isn’t a definitive timetable for his return, but he’s definitely going to need at least a brief minor league rehab assignment before rejoining Houston’s lineup. Rotoworld Today, 4:46 pm

    • Lars Nootbaar starting rehab assignment on Friday
      Lars Nootbaar (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Friday with Double-A Springfield.

      Advice: Nootbaar told reporters Thursday that he expects to play at least five or six rehab contests before returning to the majors. The 26-year-old corner outfielder has been on the shelf since late May recovering from a moderate oblique strain.       Nootbaar (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Springfield on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

      Advice: Nootbaar said he expects his rehab assignment to last roughly six games, which would put him in line to return to the active roster July 5 for the beginning of St. Louis' series with the Nationals.       Darvish had imaging on his right elbow come back clean Wednesday, though he'll likely get additional imaging "for peace of mind," Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press reports.

      Advice: Darvish has recovered from a groin injury and was originally expected to come off the injured list to start Tuesday, but that plan was scrapped when he developed inflammation in his right elbow. Initial indications suggested that the issue is minor, and the clean imaging seems to support that, though San Diego will likely be cautious with the veteran hurler's return.       Donovan went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one stolen base in a 4-1 win over Atlanta in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader.

      Advice: Donovan's eight-game hitting streak ended in the matinee with an 0-for-2 effort, but he bounced back in the nightcap, which was his eighth multi-hit effort in June. The 27-year-old also picked up his second steal of the campaign on his fifth attempt. Donovan is at a .270/.337/.419 slash line with eight home runs, 40 RBI and 35 runs scored across 74 contests. He's seen a majority of his playing time in left field but has also featured at second base, third base, right field and designated hitter as he continues to show some utility skills.
