    • Three-hit game for Ezequiel Tovar against Giants
Ezequiel Tovar picked up three hits and scored a run in a victory over the Giants on Thursday.

Advice: Tovar singled twice and also doubled. The RBI came on that double in the fourth inning, and he’s up to eight two-baggers with 13 RBI over the first 36 games of 2024. Tovar still has work to be done, but at the age of 22, he’s got time to figure it all out. A .269/.314/.400 slash gives you an idea of what he’s capable of in the coming seasons. • Goes deep Wednesday
Mountcastle went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Nationals.

Advice: Mountcastle is hitting .226 (7-for-31) over seven games in May, but four of those hits have gone for extra bases. He gave the Orioles a brief lead in the 11th inning of Wednesday's contest. The first baseman is slashing .277/.324/.485 with six long balls, 18 RBI, 20 runs scored, nine doubles and two stolen bases over 142 plate appearances. Mountcastle continues to hit well from the heart of the order in an everyday role. Rotowire.com Today, 10:17 am

    • Set for another rehab appearance
Fairbanks (arm) will make a second rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Thursday, MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Rays were uncommitted to Fairbanks' status after he made an initial rehab appearance Tuesday. Assuming Thursday's outing goes according to plan, he may be back with the team as soon as this weekend's series against the Yankees. Rotowire.com Today, 8:56 am

    • Solid in second win
Montgomery (2-2) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over seven innings in a 4-3 victory over the Reds. He struck out two.

Advice: While he again wasn't dominant, Montgomery worked seven frames for the second time in four starts since joining the Arizona rotation and delivered his third quality start. The veteran southpaw will take a 4.70 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 23 innings into his next outing, which lines up for a home rematch with Cincinnati early next week. • Drives in four in twin bill
Heim went 2-for-7 with a walk, two runs scored and four RBI across both games of Wednesday's doubleheader split with the A's.

Advice: After going 0-for-3 with a sacrifice fly as the DH in the matinee, Heim moved behind the plate for the nightcap and drove in three more runs. The 28-year-old catcher has four multi-hit performances in his last seven games, a surge that has boosted his slash line on the season to .300/.341/.425 with four homers, 18 runs and 26 RBI through 33 contests. • Allows three homers in loss
Kirby (3-3) was hit with the loss against the Twins on Wednesday, allowing four runs on four hits and one walk over five innings. He struck out four.

Advice: Kirby didn't have his best stuff Wednesday, surrendering back-to-back home runs to Carlos Correa and Trevor Larnach in the first inning, along with a third long ball off the bat of Willi Castro in the following frame. The right-hander had not allowed more than one home run in a start coming in and had held opponents to one or fewer runs in each of his previous three outings. On a positive note, Kirby has now gone at least five innings in five consecutive starts, posting a 32:3 K:BB over that stretch. Rotowire.com Today, 5:33 am

    • Productive in doubleheader
Semien went a combined 6-for-10 with a solo home run and three additional runs scored in Wednesday's doubleheader split with Oakland.

Advice: Semien, who had identical 3-for-5 lines in each end of the doubleheader, homered for a second straight game in the matinee. It's been a productive two days for Semien, who had four hits and a homer Tuesday; the second baseman raised his average 38 points after going 10-for-15 over the last three games. The surge has lifted his slash line to .286/.333/.476 with seven homers, 28 RBI and 31 runs through 39 contests. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:00 pm

    • Mountcastle slugs two-run homer, Orioles win in 12
Ryan Mountcastle slugged a two-run homer in the 11th inning on Wednesday night, helping to propel the Orioles to a wild 7-6 victory over the Nationals in 12 innings.

Advice: With one out left to get in the ninth inning, the Orioles had a comfortable 3-1 lead, then insanity ensued. Neither team scored in the 10th inning, then Mountcastle clobbered a 386-foot (98.8 mph EV) two-run shot off of Hunter Harvey in the 11th that gave the O’s a two-run lead. The Nationals would answer in their half of the 11th. The O’s then pushed two runs across in the 12th and allowed just one to escape with a victory. Mountcastle finished the night 1-for-5 and is now hitting .277/.324/.485 with six long balls and 18 RBI on the year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:42 pm

    • George Kirby surrenders four runs in loss to Twins
George Kirby allowed four runs with four strikeouts over five innings in a loss against the Twins on Wednesday.

Advice: Kirby surrendered a pair of solo homers to Trevor Larnach and Carlos Correa in the first inning. Willi Castro got to Kirby in the second with a solo blast before driving in a fourth run with a triple in the fourth. Kirby tossed one more scoreless frame, ending his day after five at 70 pitches. The 26-year-old right-hander holds a 4.15 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 45/5 K/BB ratio across 43 1/3 innings. He’s lined up for a start against the Royals in Seattle on Monday. Rotoworld Yesterday, 7:33 pm
