    • Pham has three-hit game Thursday
Tommy Pham went 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and an RBI against the Orioles on Thursday.

Advice: Pham continues to produce out of the leadoff spot for Chicago. His average is up to .333 on the season. He’s been one of the best pickups of the season considering he started the year without a team.

    • Hits third homer
Kelenic went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 3-0 win over the Cubs.

Advice: Kelenic opened the scoring in the fifth inning, taking Hayden Wesneski deep. This was Kelenic's third straight game with a hit, and all three of his homers this year have come over his last 11 contests, a span in which he's hitting .222 (8-for-36). The outfielder is at a .248/.293/.376 slash line with eight RBI, 11 runs scored, five doubles and no stolen bases over 116 plate appearances. He is likely to remain limited to a strong-side platoon role in left field, sharing the position with Adam Duvall, unless either outfielder goes on an extended hot streak. • Decent outing versus Cubs
Smith-Shawver allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.1 shutout innings Thursday versus the Cubs, taking a no-decision.

Advice: Smith-Shawver pitched fairly well, aside from needing 87 pitches (55 strikes) to get 13 outs. It's a much better showing than his 6.10 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 35:17 K:BB over 31 innings for Triple-A Gwinnett to begin 2024. The right-hander's call-up appears to be a spot start on the surface after Atlanta's doubleheader earlier in the week, so it's unclear if the team will make room for him beyond Thursday. If Smith-Shawver gets a longer look in the rotation, it could come at the expense of Darius Vines. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 6:11 pm
    • Jarred Kelenic homers, Braves shut out Cubs
Jarred Kelenic slugged a go-ahead solo homer on Thursday, powering the Braves to a 3-0 victory over the Cubs.

Advice: Kelenic connected for a tie-breaking fifth-inning solo shot to right-center field off Cubs reliever Hayden Wesneski. It was just third round-tripper of the season and wound up being one of just 10 hits combined in a rare low-scoring afternoon showdown at Wrigley Field. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:54 pm

    • AJ Smith-Shawver sharp in season debut vs. Cubs
AJ Smith-Shawver fired 4 1/3 scoreless innings on Thursday in a no-decision against the Cubs.

Advice: Smith-Shawver looked sharp on Thursday afternoon against the Cubs, carrying a shutout into the fifth inning before Braves manager Brian Snitker elected to turn things over to the bullpen rather than let him face the top of Chicago’s lineup for a third time. He surrendered just three hits, struck out four and issued only a pair of walks. He generated nine swinging strikes and finished with a 24 percent CSW. The 21-year-old righty rocketed to the big leagues last year, but hasn’t had a ton of success at the highest level. There’s a possibility he gets an extended look over the rest of the year, but that remains to be seen. He’s currently in line to take the ball next Wednesday against the Nationals. • Not in Thursday's lineup
D'Arnaud is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game against the Cubs.

Advice: He started the first two contest of the series, but with Thursday's finale being a day game, d'Arnaud will get a breather. Atlanta will go with Chadwick Tromp as its catcher for starting pitcher AJ Smith-Shawver. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 8:53 am
    • AJ Smith-Shawver promoted for start on Thursday
Braves recalled RHP AJ Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Advice: This move was rumored yesterday and is now official. With Bryce Elder disappointing in his five starts, the 21-year-old Smith-Shawver will get a chance to stake his claim to a spot in the rotation. Daysbel Hernández was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move. Smith-Shawver has improved his velocity and overall stuff+ grades this year in the minors, but his command has been an issue, leading to a decent amount of hard contact. In May, he has a 5.40 ERA and 1.47 WHIP with 19 strikeouts and nine walks in 18 1/3 innings. The potential is clearly there, but he needs to show more consistency before we feel confident about his ability to stick in the rotation this year. Rotoworld Yesterday, 8:38 am
    • Recalled ahead of Thursday's start
Atlanta recalled Smith-Shawver from Triple-A Gwinnett on Thursday.

Advice: Manager Brian Snitker previously confirmed after Wednesday's 9-2 win that Smith-Shawver would start Thursday's game against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The young right-hander holds a 6.10 ERA and 1.52 WHIP this season with Gwinnett and has posted a 7.43 ERA and allowed six home runs over his last three starts. Given those results, fantasy managers would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with Smith-Shawver, but the 21-year-old should have an opportunity to make additional starts for Atlanta if he pitches well Thursday. • Goes deep in win
Olson went 2-for-5 in Wednesday's win over the Cubs with a solo home run.

Advice: Olson launched a two-out, solo homer in the top of the seventh to extend Atlanta's lead to seven runs, giving the first baseman his fourth long ball this month and seventh overall on the season. The veteran first baseman also added a single on the night, marking his ninth multi-hit performance of the campaign and fifth in his last nine games. He's now hit safely in eight of his last 10 contests, tallying three homers and eight RBI over that stretch. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:54 am
