    • Yordan Alvarez remains out of lineup on Wednesday
Yordan Alvarez (family matter) remains out of the Astros’ starting lineup on Wednesday.

Advice: The 26-year-old slugger missed Tuesday’s game due to a family matter and is still away from the club on Wednesday. Yainer Diaz will function as the team’s designated hitter and cleanup hitter on Wednesday while Victor Caratini starts behind the dish against Garrett Crochet and the White Sox. • Strikes out nine
Greene allowed just two hits over 6.1 innings in a no-decision Wednesday against the Pirates. He struck out nine.

Advice: Greene was dominant Wednesday, matching a season high with nine strikeouts while turning in his first scoreless outing since May 3. However, the right-hander was stuck with a no-decision as the Reds couldn't break through against Mitch Keller in an eventual 1-0 loss. Still, it was an impressive performance from the 24-year-old Greene, who had struggled to a 5.60 ERA while issuing 12 walks over 17.2 innings in his previous three starts. Overall, he's 5-2 on the year with a 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98:37 K:BB across 88.2 innings. Greene's currently scheduled for a rematch with the Pirates at home in his next start. • Remaining out Wednesday
Alvarez (personal) isn't in the Astros' lineup Wednesday versus the White Sox, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Advice: Alvarez will miss his second game in a row Wednesday as he continues to tend to a family matter, and he remains day-to-day. His absence will move Yainer Diaz into the DH spot while Victor Caratini starts behind the plate. Rotowire.com Today, 2:15 pm
    • Sitting Wednesday
Smith isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Wednesday's game against the Rockies, Juan Toribio of MLB.com reports.

Advice: Smith will get a chance to clear his head Wednesday after going just 1-for-18 at the plate over his last five games. Austin Barnes will take over behind the dish while batting ninth. Rotowire.com Today, 2:07 pm
    • Nolan Gorman swats solo homer in loss to Marlins
Nolan Gorman belted a solo homer on Wednesday in the Cardinals’ loss to the Marlins.

Advice: Gorman took Marlins starter Yonny Chirinos deep in the second inning for his 16th big fly of the season. It was his lone hit in four at-bats in a low-scoring affair down in Miami. The 24-year-old slugging second baseman is batting just .161 (12-for-70) since the start of July, but half of those hits have left the ballpark, which helps salvage some semblance of fantasy appeal. • Hunter Greene posts nine strikeouts vs. Pirates
Hunter Greene matched a season-high with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 shutout innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Pirates.

Advice: Greene locked horns with Pirates starter Mitch Keller in a throwback pitcher’s duel on Wednesday afternoon at PNC Park, limiting Pittsburgh’s lineup to just four baserunners (two hits and a pair of hit batters) into the seventh inning. The hard-throwing 24-year-old right-hander’s four-seam fastball velocity was up slightly in this one to 98.5 mph as he generated an impressive 17 swinging strikes, with 16 of those courtesy of his fastball/slider combo. It was a relief to see him avoid handing out any free passes in this one after issuing a season-high five walks in his previous outing. He’ll carry a solid 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 98/37 K/BB ratio across 88 2/3 innings (15 starts) into a rematch against the Pirates on Tuesday back in Cincinnati. Rotoworld Today, 11:49 am
    • Jazz Chisholm Jr. scratched with tight hamstring
Jazz Chisholm Jr. was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup because of right hamstring tightness.

Advice: He’s supposed to be available off the bench, but the Marlins changed their minds about starting him at DH. It’s just the third time this season that he’s been out of the starting lineup and the first time due to injury. Vidal Bruján is playing center field today after his game-winning hit last night. • Scratched with tight hamstring
Chisholm was scratched from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Cardinals due to right hamstring tightness, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Advice: The Marlins are labeling the move as precautionary, and Chisholm will be available off the bench, if needed. Chisholm will hope to return to the lineup Friday against the Mariners following the team's off day Thursday. Vidal Brujan will cover center field Wednesday while Chisholm exits the lineup. • Winds up with win
Duran (3-2) picked up the win Tuesday against Tampa Bay, striking out two during a perfect ninth inning.

Advice: Duran took the mound in the top of the ninth inning with the game tied, 6-6, and didn't allow a hit for a fifth consecutive appearance. After Carlos Santana delivered a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, Duran ended up qualifying for his third win of the campaign. The Twins' closer is 11-for-11 on save chances this season and owns a 3.43 ERA across 21.0 innings. Rotowire.com Today, 5:24 am
