• Fans seven in third win
Schmidt (3-1) picked up the win Saturday over the Tigers, giving up three runs on four hits over five innings. He struck out seven without walking a batter.

Advice: The right-hander tied his season high in strikeouts while generating 33 called or swinging strikes among his 91 pitches. Schmidt has been remarkably consistent to begin the season, allowing between one and three runs in every start and completing five innings in six of seven outings, although he has yet to last a full six frames. He'll take a 3.50 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 41:13 K:BB through 36 innings into his next start, which is scheduled to come next weekend in Tampa Bay. Rotowire.com 10 minutes ago
  • Paul Blackburn tosses seven strong frames in win
Paul Blackburn tossed seven innings of one-run ball with three strikeouts in a win over the Marlins on Saturday.

Advice: Blackburn was excellent against Miami on Saturday, holding them to one run over seven frames. The only run against him was a solo homer by Nick Fortes in the sixth inning. Blackburn scattered three more hits and one walk, striking out three on his way to his third win. The 30-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 3.05 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 31/10 K/BB ratio across 41 1/3 innings. He lines up for a start against the Mariners in Seattle on Friday. • Trevor Rogers hit for eight runs in loss to A’s
Trevor Rogers surrendered eight runs over 2 1/3 innings in a loss against the Athletics on Saturday.

Advice: After a scoreless first inning, the A’s got on the board with two runs in the second on three hits and a walk. Rogers would record just one out in the third. Brent Rooker took him deep for a two run shot to star the frame, then JJ Bleday would break it open with a three-run homer before Rogers would leave with a runner on. The 26-year-old left-hander ends the day with a bloated 6.15 ERA, 1.72 WHIP, and a 28/15 K/BB ratio across 33 2/3 innings. He lines up for a start against the Phillies in Miami on Friday. • Tagged with loss Saturday
Mize (1-1) took the loss Saturday against the Yankees, coughing up five runs on nine hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.

Advice: A three-run shot by Anthony Rizzo in the third inning accounted for most of the damage off Mize, but the right-hander put plenty of traffic on the basepaths. It was the first time this season he'd allowed more than three runs in a start, and Mize will take a 3.98 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 24:7 K:BB through 31.2 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next weekend against the Astros. • Stellar in 2024 debut
Means (1-0) earned the win over the Reds on Saturday, allowing three hits over seven scoreless innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk.

Advice: A setback with Means' surgically repaired left elbow put the southpaw on the injured list to begin the 2024 season. After an extended, six-start rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk, Means transitioned beautifully to the big-league rotation, blanking the Reds in Great American Ball Park while racking up 19 swings and misses on 85 pitches. The Cincinnati offense has been in a bad way, but regardless it was an impressive return for Means and he's fully built up heading into his next projected matchup at home against the Diamondbacks. An All-Star in 2019, Means has thrown a no-hitter in the majors and owns a 3.67 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in 387.1 career innings over parts of seven seasons. Rotowire.com 39 minutes ago
  • Matthew Liberatore to start for Cardinals Sunday
Matthew Liberatore will start for the Cardinals in Sunday’s series finale against the White Sox.

Advice: Liberatore has been pitching out of the Cardinals’ bullpen all season and has thrown more than 20 pitches in an outing just once since March 30. Needless to say, he shouldn’t be expected to work deep into Sunday’s game and doesn’t make for a strong streaming option. Rotoworld Today, 6:28 pm
  • Getting spot start Sunday
Liberatore will start Sunday's game against the White Sox, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Advice: All 12 of Liberatore's appearances this season have come in relief, so while he did throw three innings in an April 28 appearance, this will be a bullpen game for the Cardinals. However, it's possible Liberatore could earn additional starts if he pitches well, as the Cards need to fill the rotation spot vacated by the injured Steven Matz (back). Rotowire.com Today, 5:55 pm
  • Erick Fedde stumbles in no-decision vs. Cardinals
Erick Fedde surrendered five runs over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Advice: Fedde had worked around some traffic through four inning, stranding four baserunners. The Cardinals would get to him in the fifth. A single and a walk put two runners on before Brendan Donovan doubled to score two runs. Fedde walked another batter, then served up a three-run shot to Nolan Arenado. That would be it for Fedde, who ends the day with a 3.46 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and a 41/14 K/BB ratio across 39 innings. He lines up for a matchup against the Guardians in Chicago on Thursday. • Lance Lynn gives up five runs in no-decision
Lance Lynn allowed five runs -- four earned -- with four strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision against the White Sox on Saturday.

Advice: Lynn gave up a pair of runs in the first inning on two hits, a walk, and a sacrifice fly. He worked through two scoreless innings before a base hit and an error brought a third run in for the White Sox in the fourth. Lynn would pitch into the sixth with a two-run lead, but walked the first two batters before he was pulled. Both inherited runners would come in to score, saddling Lynn with a no-decision. The 36-year-old right-hander will take a 3.28 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and a 33/16 K/BB ratio across 35 2/3 innings into a start against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Thursday. Rotoworld Today, 5:40 pm
