• Removed from 40-man roster
Short was designated for assignment by the Mets on Friday.

Advice: Short is clearing out as J.D. Martinez is added to the Mets' active roster. The 28-year-old utility player had received just 12 plate appearances this month with the big club, picking up one hit. It's possible he'll draw some interest from a team seeking defensive versatility. Rotowire.com 21 minutes ago

Mets designated INF Zack Short for assignment.

Advice: Short will go down to the minors with the Mets calling up veteran J.D. Martinez. The 28-year-old infielder had just one hit in his 12 plate appearances with the Mets this season. Rotoworld 25 minutes ago

  • Makes splash in big-league return
Hernaiz went 2-for-2 with a walk, a stolen base and a run in a 3-1 win over the Yankees on Thursday.

Advice: Hernaiz, who was called back up from Triple-A Las Vegas earlier in the day, made an impact from the bottom of the order for an offense-starved Oakland team. He had significant trouble mastering big-league arms to open the season, but he's in line for significant playing time while Zack Gelof (oblique) is on the 10-day injured list. • Belts second homer Thursday
Urias went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in a win over the Rangers on Thursday.

Advice: The offseason addition made some noise from the bottom of the order, snapping a 2-2 tie via a 398-foot fifth-inning shot to left center off Andrew Heaney. Urias last left the park back on April 6, and despite the timely long ball Thursday, he's sitting on a .179 batting average and .303 OBP across 33 plate appearances. However, he's also carrying a .500 slugging percentage, thanks to the fact that all five of his hits have gone for extra bases (three doubles, two homers). Rotowire.com Today, 9:33 am

  • Swipes second bag
Clement went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a stolen base in Thursday's rain-shortened loss to the Royals.

Advice: Getting the start at third base and batting sixth, Clement did what he could with his opportunities, dropping a sacrifice bunt in the second inning before singling home the Jays' only run of the game in the fourth. The 28-year-old has a four-game RBI streak going despite sporadic playing time, and while he sports an impressive .292/.300/.479 slash line on the season with two homers, two steals, six RBI and nine runs in 51 plate appearances, Clement is one of five utility players currently on the big-league roster -- along with Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Cavan Biggio, Davis Schneider and the recently promoted Addison Barger -- who are splitting time between second base, third base and left field. Unless that logjam gets cleared a little, it will be tough for Clement or any of that cohort to provide consistent fantasy value. Rotowire.com Today, 9:30 am

  • Picking up more playing time
Rosario went 1-for-2 with a walk, a run and an RBI in Thursday's 10-9 loss to the Rockies.

Advice: Rosario made his third start at third base in four games, with Thursday's assignment being particularly notable since it came with the Padres facing a right-handed hurler in Colorado's Dakota Hudson. Tyler Wade had been starting at the hot corner against right-handers in the early part of the season, but Rosario could end up unseating him as the preferred option at the position, at least until Manny Machado is able to play the field once he completes his recovery from offseason elbow surgery. Rosario has been more productive at the dish than Wade this season with a .282/.333/.564 slash line, two home runs, five doubles and five RBI over 43 plate appearances, and the 24-year-old might have earned himself more opportunities against right-handed pitching as a result. • Makes start in left field
Wade was the Padres' starting left fielder in Thursday's loss against Colorado and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a run and a stolen base.

Advice: Wade got his first look in the outfield this season -- previously, all of his defensive work had come at either third or second base. The veteran has plenty of outfield experience in his career, logging at least a handful of games there in every campaign except 2020. Wade's versatility could help him continue to start semi-regularly even as Eguy Rosario gets more reps at third base. Rosario has started at the hot corner in three of San Diego's past four contests, with Thursday's game being particularly notable as the Rockies started a right-handed pitcher. • Slugs first homer
Montero went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk Thursday against the Padres.

Advice: Montero went 6-for-22 through the first six games of the Rockies' homestand, though all but one of those hits was a single. His lone extra-base knock came Thursday, which also marked the first home run of his season. Montero is batting only .233 through 82 plate appearances, but he has cut his strikeout rate to just 14.6 percent this season and has started 13 of the last 14 games. Rotowire.com Today, 7:09 am
  • Swats first homer
Nevin went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Thursday in a 3-1 victory versus the Yankees.

Advice: Nevin's two-run blast off Nestor Cortes in the third inning proved to be the game-winning hit, as neither team crossed the plate after that point. The long ball was his first this season and just his sixth through 375 big-league plate appearances. Nevin hasn't flashed much power thus far and has never stolen a base as a major leaguer, but he's at least put together a decent .286/.355/.375 slash line this season. Rotowire.com Today, 12:09 am
