    Advice: The White Sox are bringing a right-hander (Chris Flexen) to the mound, but Flexen has been far more effective against lefties (.314 wOBA) than righties (.372 wOBA) for his career, which likely explains why the lefty-hitting Rortvedt is on the bench.   • David Fry hits game-tying homer in ninth
    David Fry hit a game-tying homer off Andrew Chafin in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Tigers.

    Advice: Some curious bullpen management from the Tigers today got Fry a good matchup against a lefty in the ninth and he wound up with his second homer. This was actually a rare start against a righty for Fry, but he went 0-for-3 against them. The homer off Chafin made him 10-for-24 with four extra-base hits, 10 walks and two HBPs versus lefties this season. That’s a ridiculous .595 OBP.     Advice: Though he'll be included in the lineup in a non-defensive role Wednesday, Herrera is expected to serve as the Cardinals' primary backstop for the foreseeable future after Willson Contreras was placed on the 10-day injured list with a fractured forearm, an injury that will likely keep him out for 6-to-8 weeks. Pedro Pages was called up from Triple-A Memphis in a corresponding move and will start behind the plate Wednesday, but Herrera should see the bulk of the work at catcher while Contreras is on the shelf. Ivan Herrera will be the Cardinals' primary catcher while Contreras is out, while Pedro Pages has been recalled from Triple-A Memphis to take Contreras' roster spot and serve as the team's No. 2 backstop.     Cardinals placed Willson Contreras on the 10-day injured list with a left arm fracture.

    Advice: Contreras will need more than the minimum 10 days as the 31-year-old backstop suffered a broken left forearm during Tuesday’s game against the Mets. Contreras was struck by a swing from J.D Martinez that collided with the middle of the forearm and carried through to his wrist. He’ll have to undergo surgery and is expected to miss at least six to eight weeks. In the meantime, Iván Herrera and Pedro Pagés will handle catching duties while Contreras is sidelined.
