    Strickland (2-1) earned the win in relief over San Diego on Monday, allowing one hit and one walk over 1.1 scoreless innings.

    Advice: Tyler Anderson allowed just one run over 6.2 standout frames before turning the ball over to Strickland with runners on second and third and two outs in the seventh inning. The reliever escaped the jam by getting David Peralta to fly out, then wiggled out of his own two-on, one-out situation in the eighth. Strickland subsequently became the pitcher of record when the Angels broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of that frame. Though he has primarily pitched in lower-leverage situations this year, Strickland has been arguably the team's most effective reliever, posting a 1.75 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 21:5 K:BB over 25.2 innings while notching two wins and two holds.   • Called up for major-league debut
    The Nationals recalled Herz from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

    Advice: Herz is set to make his major-league debut Tuesday against the Mets, filling in for the injured Trevor Williams (elbow). The left-hander has posted a 3.75 ERA and 42:29 K:BB over 36 innings covering nine starts for Rochester this season.   • Lands on IL with flexor strain
    The Nationals placed Williams on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to June 1, with a right flexor strain, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

    Advice: Williams had been slated to start Tuesday's game against the Mets but now will be sidelined for at least two weeks and very likely longer. The veteran right-hander has been a pleasant surprise for the Nationals this season, collecting a 2.22 ERA in 11 starts. DJ Herz is taking Williams' spot on the roster and in the rotation.     Nationals placed RHP Trevor Williams on the 15-day injured list with a right elbow flexor strain.

    Advice: Williams will be out for at least two weeks with the injury, but there’s no timetable for his return yet as the injury occurred sometime after his start against Atlanta on Thursday. Washington has recalled DJ Herz to make the start against the Mets on Tuesday in Williams’ place. There should be further updates on the 32-year-old’s status in the coming days.     Braves transferred LHP Tyler Matzek from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.

    Rea is expected to pitch in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Jared Koenig in Tuesday's game against the Phillies in Philadelphia, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

    Advice: Koenig is expected to receive his second opener assignment in as many days after he needed just five pitches to retire the Phillies' top three hitters in Monday's 3-1 win. Look for Koenig to work no more than an inning or two Tuesday before turning the game over to Rea, who previously worked behind Koenig on May 25 in Boston. The arrangement ended up working out well for Rea's fantasy managers, as he picked up the win against the Red Sox that day while allowing two runs and striking out two batters over 5.2 innings.     Walston is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Giants at Chase Field.

    Advice: After he was called up from Triple-A Reno on May 26, Walston made his first big-league start later that day against the Marlins, striking out four over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision. Arizona had previously confirmed Walston for a start against the Mets this past weekend, but he was ultimately pushed back in the pitching schedule after the Diamondbacks elected to call up Slade Cecconi from Reno to slot into the rotation following Zac Gallen's (hamstring) placement on the 15-day injured list. Until one of Gallen, Merrill Kelly (shoulder) or Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder) returns from the IL, the Diamondbacks should have back-end rotation spots available for both Walston and Cecconi.     Triple-A Salt Lake placed Wantz on its 7-day injured list April 19 with a right forearm injury, Taylor Blake Ward of TheSportingTribune.com reports.

    Advice: Wantz has worked almost exclusively as a reliever at the big-league level with the Angels over the previous three seasons, but he had been working out of the rotation at Salt Lake after being optioned to Triple-A coming out of spring training. The right-hander had gotten off to a solid start to his first four starts with Salt Lake with a 4.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 24:8 K:BB across 17.1 innings, but the forearm injury has halted any momentum Wantz might have built toward a possible promotion to the big leagues.   • Report: Orioles sign right-hander Julio Teheran
    Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Orioles have signed right-hander Julio Teheran to a minor-league contract.

    Advice: As Heyman notes in his post, the Orioles are in need of starting pitching help, and the hope is Teheran can provide some. This is the second time he’s joined the Baltimore organization, as he also signed a minor-league contract with the O’s in February before opting out when he didn’t make the team out of spring training. The right-hander was awful in Triple-A Iowa before he opted out of his contract with the Cubs as seen in an 8.82 ERA and 1.81 WHIP oer 32 2/3 innings of work.
