• Carted off field pregame
Cave was carted off the field during the Rockies' pre-game batting practice after being hit in the side of the head by a line drive, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Advice: Cave was stationed in right field as the Rockies' took BP and was struck in the head by a line drive. Cave was slated to bat eighth and play right field Friday but was scratched after the incident, but the severity of the injury is unknown. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 3:30 pm

  • Nolan Jones (back, knee) rejoins Rockies on Friday
Rockies activated OF Nolan Jones from the 10-day injured list.

Advice: The dynamic 26-year-old has been sidelined since April 29 due to back and knee issues, but is finally ready to return to the Rockies’ lineup. Prior to landing on the injured list, he was hitting a paltry .170/.243/.277 with one homer, seven RBI and a pair of stolen bases through his first 26 ballgames. Jones will start in left field and bat fifth against Carmen Mlodzinski and the Pirates on Friday evening at Coors Field. Rotoworld Yesterday, 2:57 pm
  • Sitting again versus lefty
Raley isn't in the Mariners' lineup for Friday's game against the Rangers.

  • Reinstated from IL
Jones (knee) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Friday.

Advice: Jones landed on the injured list April 30 due to back stiffness. His initial rehab assignment was halted May 21 due to right knee soreness stemming from a slide, but he was able to resume activities June 3. Across his 12 rehab games with Triple-A Albuquerque, Jones went 9-for-42 with six runs, one home run and six RBI. He is starting in left field and batting fifth for Friday's game against the Pirates. To make room for Jones, Colorado placed Elias Diaz on the 10-day IL with a left calf strain, retroactive to June 11. Rotowire.com Yesterday, 2:32 pm
  • Joey Gallo to undergo MRI on injured hamstring
Joey Gallo was set to undergo an MRI exam on his injured hamstring on Friday.

Advice: The results of that exam are not yet known. The 30-year-old slugger sustained the injury on Tuesday while he was running out a ground ball in the seventh inning. While the severity of the injury remains unclear, it sounds like the Nationals expect him to be sidelined for a while this time around. Rotoworld Yesterday, 1:33 pm

  • Becomes free agent
The Red Sox released Cooper on Friday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.

Advice: Cooper cleared waivers after being designated for assignment and is now free to sign on with a new organization. The 33-year-old has slashed just .206/.267/.299 between the Cubs and Red Sox this season, but with a career .265/.333/.427line he should draw some interest in free agency. • Breaks homer drought
Rizzo went 1-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Royals.

Advice: The first baseman snapped a streak of 27 games without a long ball when he took John Schreiber deep in the eighth inning. Rizzo received back-to-back days off earlier this week for a mental reset, and he entered Thursday's game in a 2-for-37 slump during June. He currently sits at .223/.282/.344 slash line with eight home runs and 27 RBI for the season. Rotowire.com Thursday, 2:14 pm
