• Luis Arraez not in Padres’ lineup on Wednesday
Luis Arraez is not in the Padres’ starting lineup for Wednesday’s tilt against the Rockies.

Advice: It looks to be nothing more than a routine day of rest for the two-time defending batting champion. Manny Machado will function as the team’s designated hitter on Wednesday while Donovan Solano will draw a start at third base and bat sixth against left-hander Austin Gomber and the Rockies. Jurickson Profar will slide up to the leadoff spot in the Padres’ lineup. Rotoworld 30 minutes ago

  • Transferred to 60-day IL
The Athletics transferred Hernaiz (ankle) to the 60-day injured list Wednesday.

Advice: The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for the addition of Aaron Brooks, who is starting Wednesday's game versus the Astros. Hernaiz suffered a severe left ankle sprain a week ago and now won't be eligible to return until early July. Rotowire.com 38 minutes ago

  • A’s shift Darell Hernaiz to 60-day IL
Athletics transferred INF Darell Hernaiz from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.

Advice: That must be a pretty bad ankle sprain that Hernaiz suffered last week. The A’s are currently rolling with Max Schuemann as their everyday shortstop. Rotoworld 55 minutes ago

  • Back on bench Wednesday
Merrifield is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: With Bryce Harper (migraine) and Kyle Schwarber (back) both missing time in recent days, Merrifield was one of the main beneficiaries. He started in seven of the previous eight games while manning three different positions, but Merrifield provided just three hits over 32 at-bats over that stretch to bring his batting average down to .188. Both Harper and Schwarber are simultaneously in the lineup for the first time since last Friday, so Merrifield will retreat to the bench and will most likely be in store for a reduction in playing time moving forward. • Back in action Wednesday
Harper (migraine) will start at first base and bat third in Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Advice: Harper will make his return to the lineup after sitting out Tuesday's 4-0 win with what was apparently a minor migraine. Alec Bohm filled in at first base but will move back to his usual post at third base Wednesday to accommodate Harper. Rotowire.com Today, 12:11 pm

  • Draws start at second base in minors
Caminero made his first start of the season at second base with Triple-A Durham on Tuesday and went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run.

Advice: The start at second base came on the same day Brandon Lowe visited a specialist due to continued concerns with his right oblique. Lowe ultimately received good news, and the expectation is that he will be able to resume his rehab assignment with Durham soon. However, it's notable that the Rays seem to be prepping Caminero as a contingency plan at second base, a position he hadn't started a game at since 2022. Caminero is slashing a robust .316/.385/.582 with seven long balls on the season. Prior to Tuesday, he had been exclusively playing third base for Durham. Rotowire.com Today, 12:07 pm

  • Cleared for activity
Walls (hip) reported to the Rays' spring training facility in Port Charlotte, Fla. earlier this week and will go through workouts for the next 10-to-14 days before beginning a rehab assignment, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Advice: According to Topkin, Walls will be going through a modified version of his own spring training while he builds up stamina and stacks up at-bats as he works his way back from the surgery he required last October to address a labral tear in his right hip. The Rays opted to shut Walls down in late April for two weeks after he experienced renewed inflammation in his hip, and the 27-year-old seemingly responded well to the extra time off. Since he's been on the injured list all season, Walls will presumably in store for an extended minor-league rehab assignment, making it unlikely that he's activated before the end of May. Whenever he's ready to go, Walls could threaten Jose Caballero for everyday duties at shortstop. Rotowire.com Today, 12:04 pm

  • Five innings on defense Tuesday
Diaz (calf) started at third base and played five innings in Triple-A Las Vegas' win over El Paso on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with an RBI single.

Advice: Diaz picked up the first hit of his three-game rehab stint on his final at-bat of the evening, and he took another step in the right direction by logging five frames on defense for the second straight game. The veteran is likely to continue taking a day off between appearances for the moment as his ramp-up following a long layoff continues. Rotowire.com Today, 11:58 am

  • Sitting against lefty
Baty is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Phillies.

Advice: With a tough lefty (Ranger Suarez) on the hill for Philadelphia, the lefty-hitting Baty will retreat to the bench. The freshly recalled Mark Vientos will get the start at third base and could end up filling the short side of a platoon with Baty while he's up with the big club. Rotowire.com Today, 11:34 am
